Replacing old lies with new

Anything to cover the perfume of cabbages?

I bought some lavender incense. It smells nice, I don't like it because it tastes like soap in my mouth. A joy of having a drippy nose at the time. I may have had a few bars of soap shoved in my mouth as a kid.

A while back someone somewhere recommended "Biz". It's a detergent booster. For things like kitchen towels? It gets the grease out. Makes the towel whiter, too.

For everything else it gets the musty smell out.

Doesn't cost much. Liquid or powder are about the same price. About $6.50 for the liquid and I use at most half a cap.

Walmart has it at the far end of the detergent aisle, about ankle high.

I think of it as a color safe bleach, although I gather there is more in there than just bleach. I remember my mother having a box of Biz around, although I don't honestly know how much she used it. I don't think I've ever used the stuff personally. I've been tempted to get a box, but never have. Partly the price, partly a question if I'd find it useful enough. And there is an argument for having a premium detergent to use for problem loads. This approach, of course, might work better for some than others.

I have used other color safe bleaches that were cheaper--but never really seemed worth the bother. But they were probably far more limited products.

An old Biz ad. I remember seeing this or something very like it in the 1990s. The quality is bad--I suspect this came off videotape.

Wouldn’t it eat half their phone if they did?
But a phone maker might like to install something in phones to release these enzymes after two years. It'll force people to buy a new phone regularly, like it or not!

Biz was recommended to me as a detergent booster with enzymes that de-grease the laundry. Like jeans when you've been working on the car. I don't know. Maybe Tide or whatever has that already and is worth the price. But Tide makes me itch, even with a double final rinse.

Proctor and Gamble used to own both Biz and Tide, and I've heard it speculated that one reason Biz might have been sold off was because Tide had gotten so good that Biz wasn't as useful as it had been. Of course, a lot depends on the individual. Someone with really dirty clothes might well need as much help as he or she can get. Someone with only occasional light stains might find a decent detergent good enough.

Interesting how many times I've heard that over the years! I remember being a bit curious about Tide Coldwater around 2010, but the research seemed to turn up a lot of people who had bad problems with skin irritation. I was scared off, although it might not have been a problem for me. I don't think I've had problems with any version of Tide I've actually used, although I was a bit leery about trying it at all IIRC given the stories of skin irritation.

You guys don't wanna beat the drum on this anymore? :corn:

/\ Maybe I'll spin a line or two later. Right now I've got a good presoak going.

There is something like that in Caterpillar™ 'phones already. The synthetic rubber/plastic body crumbles and splits after about 4 years.
Probably just a side effect of using the cheapest possible plastic China can make.

I think Costco's detergent does the same.

My guess is that it may be as simple as PH. Skin is not at the same PH as lots of shampoos and soaps. That's bound to cause irritation almost by definition.
