Republican Va. Guv rolls back gay protections

Yup. To avoid protecting gay folk from discrimination in his administration, he stripped out all the protected categories--even veterans! So we fall back to the EEOC regs which don't cover sexual orientation.

It shall be the policy of the office of the Governor to ensure equal opportunity in the workplace, encourage excellence by rewarding achievement based on merit, and prohibit discrimination for any reason. Hiring, promotion, discipline and termination of employees shall be based on qualifications, performance and results.

This is just another round of the same tired old Republican shell-game. :grrr:

What pisses me off is my family. They all voted for this shit head.
Hard to keep quiet. But I must.
As my Father ages he has become very ultra conservative and the changes I see in his views are incredible.
He was much more open minded when younger, thus I adopted his views by his role model but something happened to him on the way to old age.
I read about this Gov. before he became elected. Not that it mattered to my parents but they had little clue of his past and don't think groups like the 700 club are serious because to them its only the catholic church that matters, they don't take those type of bible thumpers in the south part of the state serious. They haven't a clue in their upscale Fairfax landscape of their little cul-de-sac of pricey homes all with multiple 2010 SUVS with leather interiors sitting in the driveways.
My Father has reverted back to wanting the mass said in latin, though for years he didn't go to church at all.
He wants taxes cut, and hates big government yet he still peddles p.t. for the CIA and is retired from government where he was in a regulatory post. Fox makes sense to him, and if Fox says vote for McDonnell he doesn't need or care to read about his background, besides hes a good christian man.
He is a very smart man, but his logic and willingness to research is all but gone due to the remote in hand.
Yet my Dad still is whining that they haven't seen a snow plow yet.
Maybe he shouldn't depend on the government and do it himself by renting a private contractor. Why should the state have a social program to plow long streets where only 4 houses are on?
Oh well I tried to talk to them about this and its no use. Its a delicate problem but while my friends and family talk of being supportive of gay issues in fact they continually vote the other way. Its really not a issue for them, and I wish they would save the lip service.
Better yet I must learn to stop talking about it with them. Though you know if a politician ever posed a threat to a program, or wanted a law that would hurt my family or very close friends passed I wouldn't vote for them. Likely I just wouldn't vote. Because I can't imagine doing things that take away or further limit any sort of topic that would effect them. I was taught that by my parents as a kid, but what can you do?
And as others have said its no shock that he did this he said he would.

while my friends . . . talk of being supportive of gay issues in fact they continually vote the other way.

Pssst! [whisper]They aren't your friends.[/whisper]

You're in St. Pete now. You need some new friends.

And remember, friends don't let friends vote Republican.

God, I'm so fucking disgusted I am at a loss for words. I just hope we can somehow get the Republicans out of office again and back whining on Fox News where they belong.

Pandering at the expense of gay family members, gay friends and very often their own gay asses is apparently now required for membership into the Republican Party.

I Told You All That Mcdonnell Was Bad News.

None Of You Listened To Me.

I have come to the realization that no matter what friends and or family say in support of you, they seem to always vote for these prats and then wonder why you stop speaking to to them. I have stopped trying to educate others by showing them their prejudices are unfounded and illogical. It doesn't work. Apparently stupid is in the genes.

I live in this awful state and I do not ever see anything ever changing for the positive for gays here until all the old people and Jerry's kids die. (falwell reference)

The IQ of this state must be that of inbred to the enth degree.

For instance, Fawell's little idiot brats that attend his school are able to vote here in this state. That is they are not here more than a few months and they are told to show up at the polls and vote rebug or else.

That being said the Dems are no better...

I have lost faith in this country ever becoming respectful of all it citizens. They would rather worry about the boogy man in the sky than their fellow human being they so enjoy trampling under foot....

Remember everyone, we have magical powers to cause major world disasters and snatch children's minds...(<===SARCASM )

And neither is voting Democrat at the national level, but continue banging your head against that wall, by all means! ..|](*,)

Um.. no.

Obama isn't the gay avenger some people wanted but he sign the first-ever federal gay rights and DADT is most likely going to end very soon.

He also hasn't said that we need to "codify" marriage as one man and one woman in the constitution.

He hasn't ever gotten votes by scaring up gay panic.

No.. he hasn't done all we'd like him to do but the gay community has very short memories if they say we're no better off than we were under Bush.

Recommendation: Turn your back on your family. Your father, especially.

QFT.

One good thing: Bob McDonnell's 2009 election as Governor of the state of Virginia helps to serve as a reminder why it's dumb for any gay person to vote Republican.

Arguing with a straw man much? I never even mentioned Obama. I'm talking about the Democratic party. Keep blindly supporting them just because they're "better than the alternative" and they'll continue to use their empty carrot-and-stick politics without delivering anything substantial.

Its the political reality in this country... there is only two choices! So yes... I'm going to choose the "better alternative"

^The reason that there are only two choices, is that is what the people in this country want. We live in a democracy and most people find one or the other of the choices acceptable. Most people understand that no party or individual is going to represent everything any particular individual desires.

If you don't like the choices, offer a third choice and see if you get support, otherwise, your a candidate for a shack in the desert where you can rant and rave to your hearts content.

Wrong. About everything.

We live in a republic, people don't want only two choices but they're too stupid to do anything about it. Why do you think they had that poll where the stupid "tea party" beat Democrats and Republicans? And the tea partiers are freakin whackjobs! Are you that oblivious to how entirely dissatisfied people are with Democrats and Republicans right now?

but yet we americans as a whole keep voting in a cycle....but hey its always good to be right i guess:=D:

There is no "better alternative" amongst those two choices.

On gay related issues (the topic of this thread) there most certainly is. One party actually respects the human rights of gay people and mostly treats them with the respect they deserve.

Most of the other party thinks being gay is a choice, that it is wrong, and that gays will burn in hell. They know that expressing those views is very un-PC now though, so they rarely say that outright (though sometimes it slips out). Instead they express disagreement with anything related to gay equality in phrases such as "it's not the right time", "there are other more important issues to consider", "it should be a <insert lower level of goverment> issue", "I think existing laws are sufficient", etc etc.

Now on some other issues (government spending, military, business, etc) you are probably correct in that statement.

Why are you even focusing on the party? Who gives a flying fuck what party they are. The only thing that matters is the positions that they hold and the legislation they will support. You should be voting for the PERSON and not the PARTY.

yeah... and it happens to be that most of the PEOPLE that are for gay rights are democrats.
