I call it treason.

Posh, it is pretty much the goal of the party out of power to want the sitting president to be a one term president. Partisanship as ugly as it is, is not treason.

That is their desire of course.... however passing 51 bills most of ZERO consequence to the American people in a time when a normal congress passes 150 some odd bills where some have substance and most are of no consequence? That is treason. Intentionally hurting American people to deprive a President of any success so you might improve your chances at regaining the White House? That is treason.

Deliberately setting out to do nothing good for the country in order to achieve that IS treason. Deliberately knocking down bills that are straight down the line your own party's values, bills that would according to both sides in Washington benefit millions of citizens, to achieve that IS treason. Dragging down your country's international standing in order to achieve that IS treason.

Do not ask what good they do -- they do none at all, but instead do harm. THAT is treason.

I wouldn't classify it as treason, malpractice, incompetence, narrow minded partisan ship yes. Unfortunately one of the down sides of democracy is there is no assurance against electing idiots particularly when idiots are dominating one or both of the parties.

I don't agree treason implies a level of malevolent intent and desire to destroy or harm that is not conclusive here and to imply it simply waters down the meaning of treason. This would be just a different form of the accusations about patriotism that the right like to wield. Treason is a very specific and serious charge, so serious it receives special attention in the Constitution on how it can be levied. I do not think these people INTEND to destroy the US, I think to their thinking they are saving it.

When the Republicans start assassinating the opposition on the house floor, that might be a point. Legally playing roadblock in the legislature and wanting the opposition to lose office is a far cry from murder, assassination and treason.

Every party wants the opposition president to be a one term president. Give em points for honesty at least. Saying so publicly and roadblocking all legislation is likely a pretty stupid political strategy, but it is not treason.

And when the Republican strategists for the House decide that their path will be to pass nothing at all that the President will sign, it's pretty obvious who the problem is.
