So much so that I'm not even watching it today, the only day of the week when I can watch it in it's first run & not on SoapNet

The thing is is that there is more that I dislike about "Y&R" than I do ... and that is why I am simply enjoying the silence and tuning it out today. Will probably tune in to other CBS daytime fare "As The World Turns" and "Guiding Light" a little later. Why am I so disillusioned with the show:

Colleen/Korbel/JT. I, along with so many others, can not stand this triangle. There never was any chemistry with NuColleen and JT so the show swiftly puts her in this storyline with her professor Korbel and things become even worse and they are shoved down our throats 4-5 times a week. And almost as terrifyingly boring as this threesome is Lily and Daniel. :help:

I like the fact that they are addressing this internet- cheating- on your girlfriend kind of storyline but I have never ever been intrigued by the teen set on "Y&R" like I am other shows (think "General Hospital's" Dillon, LuLu and Georgie). You're throwing in the unwatcheable Amber into this storyline and it just becomes a catastrophe.

Another key factor in my almost overnight disdain for "Y&R" is the Fisher Family. Suddenly they have taken over from the Newmans and the Abbotts as the central clan and I am not digging it one bit. For starters, I never liked the actress that took over for Gloria from Joan Van Ark in early 2005. The writers want us to feel pity for Gloria and Kevin? After all they have done? None of them have served any prison time for attempted murder, botched facial cream, etc. At least Michael did serve some prison time for his attempted rape of Christine in the early 1990's.

What do I like about "The Young & The Restless" as we approach the mid-point of 2007? ... wow, I really have to scratch my head and think hard here ...

Jack Abbott. I dig him. He always seems to be the underdog and never given a fair shake in life. The trapped in the elevator scenes with a pregnant Phyllis were absolutely wonderful and probably elemental to giving Peter Bergman his fourth Emmy award. I like him with Sharon but c'mon we all know that her and Brad are gonna hook up in a matter of days, leaving Jack defeated in the game of love one more time. I would love for the show to bring back the original Diane from the 1980's and 1990's. That actress had immeasureable chemistry with both Bergman and Eric Braeden's Victor.

I have always loved the African-American characters on "Y&R" from Mamie to Olivia to Nathan to Malcolm. But now we are left with just boozing it up Neil and his dim-witted daughter/niece Lily. And that don't make for intriguing story.

"Y&R" has never been my No. 1 or even No. 2 loved soap amongst the six that I am dedicated to but I have to give that show the distinction of being the one I have watched the longest (26 years!) but if this keeps up, I'm gonna have to whittle my soap obsession down to just five :-({|=

Give Guiding Light A Try The Show Needs All The Viewers It Can Get! I Agree With You About The Fishers, When Are They Gonna Get What Is Coming To Them? I Hope Victor Doesnt Take Down Jack He Needs To Win Against Victor For Once!

Yeah, Kalkorrigan99, "Guiding Light" is a part of my soap opera menu but I haven't felt super love for that show since the Annie Dutton Days. "GL" was my No. 1 fave daytime drama in 1997 and it was all thanks to Cynthia Watros and the torture her Annie caused on Springfield.

I guess it's harder for me to feel disappointment in "GL" like I do with "Y&R" because "GL" never reached a huge level of satisfaction for me. And I agree about "GL" needing all the audience it can get.

When "Passions" goes off the air this summer, "Guiding Light" and "Days Of Our Lives" will be the two-lowest rated soaps on the air.

It's kinda like 'American Idol' of the soap lineup. Pretty soon we'll be down to just two soaps (probably "General Hospital" and "Y&R").

I quit watching Y & R years ago because of that horse's ass Victor. I don't like the character and the actor is a smug jerk, too.

i watch all the cbs soaps but GL really hasnt been the same since michael zazlow passed away plus they get no help from CBS at all it seems!!

As a lifelong viewer of 'Guiding Light," (I watched it as a child with my mom when it was still only a 15 minute show in the late 1960's), I have stood by it, ups and downs and all...

I even continued to watch it after they insulted every loyal viewer they ever had with that god-awful cloning Reva dreck!

I was there when Bill Bauer was "killed" in a plane crash, (and for both of his eventual returns).

I was there when Roger Thorpe was raping and murdering (and not necessarily in that order)

I was there to see Bert Bauer lose her leg to cancer (on screen and in real life)

I was there for Quinton & Nola, Kelly & Morgan, Annabelle & Tony, Fletcher & Claire, Phillip & Beth, Johnny & Chelsea, and all of the many supercouples they had.

I even loved the 70th Anniversary show, with Beth Ehlers (Harley) portraying Irna Phillips.

Right now, I am not thrilled with the Josh & Cassie thing, and the lack of Marlers and Bauers. But with the talents they do have (like the outstanding Justin Deas as Buzz, Ron Raines as Alan, and yes, even Kim Zimmer as Reva), I will keep tuning in.....

Keep in mind that May sweeps is just around the corner, and most soaps are just 'spinning wheels' or *slowly* setting up storylines that will climax during the ratings period....

Then, there will be the inevitable plot lines that are geared to the young teenage crowds that are out over Summer break... (Murder at Raven Lake !)
...stuff like that.

Y&R always had a reputation for slow-moving stories, but they always had a payoff. It's a shame what Lynn Latham has done to this show. From a stupid whodunit (Who Killed Carmen? Who cares?), to Brad Is Suddenly Jewish to the fiftieth return of Sheila to the most boring teens on any soap to the horrible Amber to the destruction of the Abbott Family...I could go on and on. Bill Bell must be turning over in his grave. As for me , I'll stick with ATWT....Carly's coming back soon!

Carly's coming back soon!

Yep.

Just in time to get in the way of Katie and Jack's blossoming romance, I'll bet.

(Wonder if Simon is coming back as well ? And Mike ? ...possibly the most perfect man that ever lived.....)

And, let's get Luke a BF while we're at it....maybe over the summer, I'm thinking....

Re: As The World Turns. I am totally loving it right now but it has NOTHING to do with the summer return of Maura West's Carly.

I loved, loved, loved Carly when she came aboard the show in 1995 and was a super-bitch to her sister Rosanna (then-Yvonne Perry). West left the show in 1996 to have a baby but when she returned in 1998, she was just BLAH! to me and has been ever since. In the near ten years that she has been back she hasn't exuded any of that bitchiness that she did during her first year on the show ... but that's the writers fault I suppose.

Too many soap bitches are tamed way too early (hi, Marty from "One Life To Live," Elizabeth from "General Hospital," etc.).

The triangle between Henry, Vienna and Katie is quite fantastic on so many different levels. If they write this one and draw it out just right (not too long nor too short), they're gonna have a winner on their hands!!! And who knew, Austin Peck, could actually ACT?!?

Jennifer Landon's current dual roles on "As The World Turns" really have me enjoying this show which normally falls in the middle of the six shows that I watch as far as favoritism goes. And as for Luke. There is a picture of him and the cute guy that will be his boyfriend this summer in last week's issue of Soap Opera Digest! :=D:

Woo hoo ! (First, sorry Kevin about hijacking this thread from Y&R to ATWT,)

But....

I went *years* without watching this show, but the news of Luke's coming out naturally dragged me back in....

I'm about 5 eps. behind on the ol' VCR, so I'm not quite up to speed.

Nor am I so into it that I know all the actors real names, so bear with me.

First of all, it's nice to see Henry *finally* getting some 'play'...I thought Vienna was just using him, and I'm still not so sure she isn't...But, she does seem to love him. (go figure)

It's nice to see the old 'Craig' back, too. I LUV that he re-named Worldwide
'ME'....kinda funny. This of course sets up a *major* story for Lucinda, which makes me very happy. The ep. I watched today had Lisa and Lucinda in the same scene, which I hadn't seen in ages...two soap diva queens...I guess I don't have to explain the joy of that.

Luke is finally seeing Jade for the bitch she is, Jack...I swear, as he gets older he just gets hotter, (something about the way he wear his badge on his belt gives me a fuzzy warm feeling...;) )

And, well...that's enough for now....

Gotta agree that its great to see Scott Bryce back (although I thought Jeff Meek was just fine....anybody but that ham Hunt Block). With Craig, Lucinda, Lily and Holden all being played by the original actors, hope we get some flashbacks soon.
