So much so that I'm not even watching it today, the only day of the week when I can watch it in it's first run & not on SoapNet
The thing is is that there is more that I dislike about "Y&R" than I do ... and that is why I am simply enjoying the silence and tuning it out today. Will probably tune in to other CBS daytime fare "As The World Turns" and "Guiding Light" a little later. Why am I so disillusioned with the show:
Colleen/Korbel/JT. I, along with so many others, can not stand this triangle. There never was any chemistry with NuColleen and JT so the show swiftly puts her in this storyline with her professor Korbel and things become even worse and they are shoved down our throats 4-5 times a week. And almost as terrifyingly boring as this threesome is Lily and Daniel.
I like the fact that they are addressing this internet- cheating- on your girlfriend kind of storyline but I have never ever been intrigued by the teen set on "Y&R" like I am other shows (think "General Hospital's" Dillon, LuLu and Georgie). You're throwing in the unwatcheable Amber into this storyline and it just becomes a catastrophe.
Another key factor in my almost overnight disdain for "Y&R" is the Fisher Family. Suddenly they have taken over from the Newmans and the Abbotts as the central clan and I am not digging it one bit. For starters, I never liked the actress that took over for Gloria from Joan Van Ark in early 2005. The writers want us to feel pity for Gloria and Kevin? After all they have done? None of them have served any prison time for attempted murder, botched facial cream, etc. At least Michael did serve some prison time for his attempted rape of Christine in the early 1990's.
What do I like about "The Young & The Restless" as we approach the mid-point of 2007? ... wow, I really have to scratch my head and think hard here ...
Jack Abbott. I dig him. He always seems to be the underdog and never given a fair shake in life. The trapped in the elevator scenes with a pregnant Phyllis were absolutely wonderful and probably elemental to giving Peter Bergman his fourth Emmy award. I like him with Sharon but c'mon we all know that her and Brad are gonna hook up in a matter of days, leaving Jack defeated in the game of love one more time. I would love for the show to bring back the original Diane from the 1980's and 1990's. That actress had immeasureable chemistry with both Bergman and Eric Braeden's Victor.
I have always loved the African-American characters on "Y&R" from Mamie to Olivia to Nathan to Malcolm. But now we are left with just boozing it up Neil and his dim-witted daughter/niece Lily. And that don't make for intriguing story.
"Y&R" has never been my No. 1 or even No. 2 loved soap amongst the six that I am dedicated to but I have to give that show the distinction of being the one I have watched the longest (26 years!) but if this keeps up, I'm gonna have to whittle my soap obsession down to just five
