Ridley Scott returns for ALIEN prequel!

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

I have seen the teasers at the movies. Thanks for the new trailers! I can't wait! I love the Alien movies! (Apart from AVP1, I didn't mind 2 :) and I like the original Predator movie.)

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

Because Hollywood like Toyota or GM are petrified to invest in something new that may not give the slanting , but still predictable returns that even Friday the 13th part 28 will give them.

Before some of leave this globe I promise you there will be a jeepers creepers pt 12
But it's somewhat different in this case. Ridley Scott directed the original Alien. And now 33 years later he is doing this (which really isn't about Alien). Unlike in the numerous sequels and rehashes like you pointed out, those are typically done by people who had nothing to do with the original, which is why they typically suck. Scott is an established and respected director; he would not have taken this project on if he didn't think the story was worthwhile.

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

Scott's done some bad work, but not much and nothing terrible.

On the other hand he's made a couple of the most riveting popular films of our era.

I think this is promising.

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

I've got a hunch that the crash of the derelict is gonna be the end of the movie XD

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

He seems like a can of worms soon to explode. I love it.

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

^^The little vibration in the voice, the slightly off-kilter timing is a nice reminiscence of the mess the original android made. ..|

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

From what I've read (and certain things in the preview confirms it in my opinion), this movie was originally conceived by Scott as a prequel to the Alien series, but has since been rewritten as a stand alone story. The ships, some of the gadgets and stuff, and DEFINITELY the planet have a very Alien feel to them in a sense, but are also different (so i guess they have more of a Ridley Scott feel then?)

Looks good though. I wanna see it.

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

It still is and always has been an Alien prequel. It occurs before and leads up to the events in Alien. Can't define prequel much simpler than that. But I know the story has gone through several rewrites, before Ridley wisely gave the job to Damon Lindelof.

But as an Alien prequel, it does not require Ripley, the Giger aliens and everything else. Lindelof has a better story to tell than one that has already been told.

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

i hope they will not make a shit of it i can't stand when they try to make more money by making pre- or sequels greatest movies!
BTW new version of Freddy krouger was nice :P

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

I really doubt this will be any good.

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

Yes, everyone that has been following the movie for the past couple years have known it is the "space jockey" from alien. See posts from two years ago. That was the first tease they gave us. Although I've been hearing that ship is the only link between the Prometheus and Alien stories.

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

Yet another official trailer released today. This one is over 3 minutes long.

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

I'm really looking forward to seeing this prequel story line.

I hope it's a good story like his (Ridley Scott's) original and not just a bunch of fx and shaky camera crap that Hollywood has thrown at us for the past decade.

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

I absolutely cannot wait to see this movie! Unfortunately none of my friends are really into the scifi/alien/space movies like I am so I just might have to go alone......oh well haha

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

I read that the movie last 15 minutes or so is when it evolves into a "aliens" movie. I think that is what we see in the last part of th preview. Something is menacing that poor woman..and it sure does not look HUMAN!

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

If it anything like the previous alien movies R sounds just about right. I was surprised they showed it when I went to Avengers. So do u think the creature that is hovering over that woman is the space jockey or an alien I did not see a tail unless its up in the air ready to strike?

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

I wounder how much of the Alien "cannon" was used to write this movie? I mean from watching the preview, its clear Theron's character does know about the Alien being on Earth so I wounder if the Alien v. Predator movie is part of this story. I also wounder if the Alien creatures were created by the Space Jockey to fend off the Predator's?

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

Early reviews are coming in from people who have been to screenings this week. Sadly, they are mostly saying the movie is good but not great. The visuals and 3D are supposedly better than the story, which is said to not be bold or imaginative enough. I remember prior to Alien Resurrection that I was extremely hyped for that movie, only to be hugely disappointed; it was one of the worst movies I have seen. I thought Prometheus was going to be a guaranteed hit; it had all the right components: Ridley Scott directing, Damon Lindelof writing, and an impressive cast. So I let myself get hyped again. I just browsed enough reviews to get a general impression, without reading any spoilers.

It's officially released next week. Hopefully as the masses start seeing it, it will gain a stronger reception. I know I can only judge for myself, but was hoping for a more positive lead in.
