Ridley Scott returns for ALIEN prequel!

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

Spiff you're right...Prometheus was PG-13 @ best...LOL....I don't think they even cussed...At one point I thought Charlize was NEVER gonna leave that Damn ship...All her scenes were in one or 2 rooms and thats it...

A while back I remember hearing that she was a last minute get or something...I wonder if thats why we see her so confined to that ship?

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

I just got back and really liked the film. 8.5/10 :)

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

very good movie

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

Prometheus entered the weekend Box Office @ #2 with a $50-Million take right behind The #1 Flick of the weekend Madagascar $60-Million..Snow White & The Huntsman came in @ #3 with $23-Million...

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

Saw it in 3D. I liked it. It was intense. Different than the original Alien but answered a lot of questions from that film.

I didn't find it very frightening but it made up for that with a storyline that kept me completely entertained, especially the last half of the film. I think that's a trade mark of Ridley Scott, he likes to start out slow and then send you on the roller coaster ride.

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

If I had a primary beef with the movie, it is the way Lindelof's story attempts to explain how the Giger xenomorphs came to be. I had always imagined them to be an intelligent, yet savage and primitive, alien race from their own world. I had hoped someday we would get to see what their world is like. Lindelof killed my hopes for that...

and therein, lies the inherent problem with contemporary cinema - we're spoilt.

I do not mean that as a personal slight, but when a script-writer is up against that kind of thinking from just one person, ("I had always imagined..." "I had hoped...") let alone millions, someone is always going to come away dissapointed.

It really is that simple.

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

I was hoping for a better film. I'm going to have to go with "C+" territory.

What knocked it down most significantly for me was the ponderous religious babble. I think that was probably intended to give some weight to the film (ala Scott's much more successful use of same in Blade Runner.) But it felt very cliched, and...

...worse, left the plot unhinged on a ludicrous peg. Something about 'how in order to create, one must first destroy'. Or vice-versa? Who cares, and why would they? I suppose it lays the ground for more babble in subsequent films...but I'll wager the writers are merely knitting knots that will never be neatly undone.

Are you freakin' kidding me? Lindelof has even admitted that he purposely uses ambiguity in his stories to leave us some room for our imagination. And now here you are accusing me of using my imagination before seeing the film as if it were a crime against humanity. Well excuuuuuuuuse me.

Spoiler hypothesis: in it^, we see the engineers are mad because we killed Jesus.

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

Everyone's already starting to talk about what they want in a sequel. You know what I want?

I want Ridley to do for gay men what Ripley did for women. I want the first action hero who happens to be gay. No drama. No touching coming out stories. No horrible massacre at the end to show him as a victim.

Just strength. Power. Ass kicking. He wouldn't need to steal the spotlight from Elizabeth. If he just existed, in any action movie, I would loose my mind with happiness

Awww precious.

What can I say? The truth hurts I guess.

I thought the engineers came to that remote planet to work on a bio weapon of mass destruction *the xenomorph

Did I imagine that? I'm pretty sure they said it in the film.

Yes. ^ Or something (black stuff?) dangerous at least. The captain declares it, having figured it out by paying attention to the work the others are doing.

Let me know when you have anything worthwhile discussing with me about the film. I actually liked it (although not loved it); I just said there was an aspect I was particularly disappointed in. If you are trying to hurt me, you are going to have to do better than that. In the meantime, shouldn't you be out policing the internet for everyone who criticizes the movie in any way? And accuse them all of being spoiled and say "boo hoo hoo, the scriptwriter can't live up to everyone's expectations."

Alot of people are talking like a sequel is imminent. I have my doubts. If there is any sequel, Scott is not going to have anything to do with it. He's not the type of filmmaker to milk a movie series dry with sequels. And no, James Cameron is not going to do "Prometheuses" either.

Ah, yes, thank you

Re: Ridley Scott working on an 'Alien' prequel

Honestly, I'm not the biggest sci-fi guy, but my sister recently purchased the Alien Anthology boxset, and it's been really fun watching 'em back to back. And I gotta say, I've gained a greater appreciation for both Ripley and Sigourney Weaver. The 1st to films in the series really are awesome watches. The other 2 weren't horrible, but imo they just don't touch the 1st two.

I liked it more or less but mainly because I'm a sucker for epic sf. The script was atrocious.

SPOILER ABOUT THE XENOMORPHS

the engineers were BASING their bio weapon on a pre-existing life form (the xenomorphs) which they might have created once upon a time or it might be something original. Scott said in an interview that the ship with the eggs that the crew of the Solaco found in the first movie left the planet of Prometheus around the time when the engineers were killed. So at least 2000 years ago. I can post a link to the blog where I read a detailed description of events when I'm not on my phone.
