Because it is love. It's not healthy but that's what it is. The notion that all love needs to be grand or beneficial is silly and inaccurate. Love alone a relationship does not make. The fact he beat her doesn't even mean he doesn't love her it does however mean that they are incapable of having a healthy relationship together and that's what people need to understand. And we as a society have to acknowledge that unsavory fact because the love conquers all philosophy only helps the abused rationalize returning to the abuser.

^It doesn't even mean they're eternally incapable of a healthy relationship. Is it unlikely? Probably, but who determines whether or not a relationship is healthy?

One could put together a compelling argument that when it is healthy, it is love. When it is not, it is addiction and compulsion.

I too believe love isn't enough for a relationship to work. However, lines must be drawn somewhere...where that line's drawn changes from person to person, though.

For me, physical or psychological abuse in ANY kind of relationship is intolerable. I don't buy that "Yeah, he beat the shit outta me but he really does love me...in his own way" bullshit. A masochist would probably think different, though...

This joke has been done before hon, no one would ever do this for publicity, you think Chris Brown is gonna make as much money as he did 2 months ago? I seriously doubt it, no more endorsements and he lost so many of his devoted female fans, although few remain. and Rihanna doesn't need more publicity, she had fricken 3 number 1s on her last album, and her next won't be out for awhile so i doubt it would be on her end. no please tell me why in hell would they do this for publicity.

Read, do some research, or hell, scroll back a page and look at what I posted before. These are VICTIMS, and they often don't know how to get out of the cycle when someone has made them feel so worthless.
