With explosive sales in their first week of digital release, Rihanna's "Umbrella" and Shop Boyz' "Party Like a Rockstar" rocket to the peak of the Billboard Hot 100. "Umbrella" soars 42-1 with 277,000 digital sales, the highest debut week sum since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking downloads in 2003. Meanwhile, "Party Like a Rockstar" flies 52-2 thanks to sales of 173,000 digital downloads.

For Rihanna, this is the second Hot 100 chart-topper of her young career, following "SOS" in 2006.

I knew this was going to be massive :). It had # 1 written all over it. I am soooooo happy right, you dont even know (!)

Article talking about the success that is Rihanna

This is so awesome because for the first time Rihanna will have the nbumber 1 song and number 1 album at the same time. This is HUGE. Britney did it way back when and now Rihanna will do it next week.

Rihanna’s Umbrella hit is the biggest debut in iTunes six-year history.

Rihanna yesterday notched up yet another record – this time on the world’s biggest download application, iTunes.

She has so far scored 276 000 downloads and counting with her newest hit Umbrella, after only a week on iTunes. It is the biggest debut in iTunes’ six-year history, according to the download site, and beat out Shakira’s Hips Don’t Lie and Justin Timberlake’s Sexy Back.

iTunes was released as a McIntosh-only application in 2001, and was made available to Windows two years later.

Umbrella, is also the No. 1 entry on the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard Pop 100 – giving the Bajan singer her sixth Top 10 record in just two-and-a-half years.

The Nation Newspaper

Rihanna is set to headline the Tokyo leg of Live Earth – a series of concerts being held around the world to raise awareness of climate change.

The July 7 concert will feature her and American rock group Linkin Park sharing the stage with a host of Japanese acts.

Umbrella is No. 1 on the United Kingdom singles chart, while Linkin Park is at No 2 on the UK album chart with Minutes To Midnight.

Ella, ella,eh, eh,eh under my umbrella! I liked this song as soon as I heard it. Beyonce must me absolutly sour right now. You know she's blowing up Jay-Z's cell trying to find out where he is. She's about to ring the alarm!

This so song is so about her pussy. I love her music than I get really tired of it after the 25th time I hear it. By the 30th time I can't stand her songs.

Beyonce must me absolutly sour right now.

Beyonce who? :rotflmao:

Move over Beyonce - Rihanna has arrived. This album mixes up all the sounds of 2007 and the end result is amazing.

There's loads of upbeat numbers to get you dancing as well as Rihanna's usual mix of soul, dancehall and pop.

LOL! Oh my gosh that was so funny!

Umbrella for Song of Summer 07!!!!

I don't think Beyonce has much to worry about. Her voice outshines Rihanna's any day.
Last year Beyonce was rumored to have stomped off in the middle of a basketball game because Jay-Z was taking too many calls from Rihanna. Talkin' bout: "Why are you always talking to HER?!" And then she stomped off out of the arena.

I'm glad to see shes finally getting the success she deserves.

Oh my gosh me too. I am sooooooooooooooo happy. She is so sweet, so awesome.

When i got up this morning and saw her number 1 on billboard i hit cloud nine, you can just imagine how she must have felt when she heard.

Can you imagine? Number 1 song and Album in the entire country next week (!)

Take your hate somewhere else.

In any event i hear that Beyonce begged Jay Z to let her do the upcoming duet with Ri Ri because realizes how talented and on fire she is now.

I like Rihanna, but I don't like this song.
The ella, ella, eh, eh, eh part is just so...ugh!

And I'm still digging her SOS. I am happy for her success. Three albums in such a short time? Wow! Someone's been hard-working.

I agree. Rihanna's not only breaking record. She's breaking someone's engagement. Let's watch the news. ;p

Except Rihanna has more class than Beyonce and doesnt' have her head up her ass. Beyonce is played out, her , her mom, her sister, destiny's child.....all tired. What mother designs clothes that short for her daughter!? If you had THAT kind of control wouldnt you want to do something to show young girls "you dont have to wear short skirts and show off your tummy you can be classy".......but Beyonce and her mom went the other way

Yes she has a nice voice, but takes herself way too seriously.

Besides Rihanna has that whole exotic caribbean vibe :)

How many threads do we really need about this song or the video or about Rhianna. Keep it to one thread, and stop polluting the boards.

Yay ! I like this song !

I think she's going to be the new Beyonce if she continues like that ...

If JOJO could take some career tips from Rihanna it wouldn't be bad...;) Cos I finally wanna see good l' JO score a number one and have that kind of success !

Ok, back to the topic! The "umrella-ella-eh-eh" part really got me hooked ! It's one of the few songs I remember after hearing them only one time !

Beyonce better be watching her back...Although still she isn't THAT threatened yet. She 's still got number 1 songs and 10 Grammys ! And her voice is far beyond Rihanna's level ! Seriously. Don't get me wrong, Rihanna's voice is great , especially for her age, but Beyonce's is a whole different story .

Ela-ela-eh-eh-eh...:)

Haha, am I picking up on a Jamie Foxx circa Dreamgirls vibe there?

lol i was going to say thats why she got the role.

Rihanna's 'Umbrella' Nets #1 Trifecta on Billboard Hot 100, Pop 100, and Digital Songs

RIAA platinum, award-winning SRP/Def Jam recording R&B artist – and CoverGirl spokesperson – Rihanna takes over the top of the charts this week as her current single “Umbrella” (featuring Jay-Z), with over 80 million audience, scores a perfect trifecta at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, Pop 100, and Hot Digital Songs charts. Last week, the song made chart history in the U.K. as Rihanna’s first #1 there. The video for “Umbrella,” directed by Chris Applebaum, stays at #1 on iTunes and the AOL Music Top 40 Videos chart, and is in heavy rotation on MTV, BET and VH-1. In her U.S television debut, Rihanna will perform the song live with Jay-Z at the MTV Movie Awards this Sunday, June 3rd.

“Umbrella” is the introduction to Rihanna’s new album, GOOD GIRL GONE BAD, which arrives in stores next Tuesday, June 5th, a day that will be capped off with an appearance on NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. TV continues with NBC’s The Today Show (June 8th), ABC’s The View and MTV’s TRL (both June 11th), BET’s 106 & Park, climaxing with the global broadcast of the historic all-star Live Earth concert on Saturday, July 7th.

Rihanna’s third album release in less than two years, GOOD GIRL GONE BAD is the follow-up to 2006’s RIAA platinum A Girl Like Me, with the back-to-back #1 hits, “S.O.S.” and “Unfaithful”; and her RIAA gold debut from 2005, Music Of the Sun, featuring the worldwide smash, “Pon De Replay.” GOOD GIRL GONE BAD boasts the production skills of Timabland, C. “Tricky” Stewart, Stargate, and the team of Evan Rogers and Carl Sturken (responsible for “S.O.S.” and “Pon De Replay”), as well as songwriting contributions from Justin Timberlake and Ne-Yo, among others.

In June, 19-year old Barbados native Rihanna will be seen in her first ads as the newest CoverGirl, joining the ranks of Queen Latifah, Molly Sims, Christie Brinkley and Keri Russell. The long list of famous CoverGirl models (starting in 1961) also includes Cheryl Tiegs, Rachel Hunter, Tyra Banks, and Niki Taylor.

Personally signed by Def Jam president and CEO Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, Rihanna is a unique role model for West Indians back home and around the world. She created The Rihanna Foundation, a public charity organization dedicated to assisting terminally ill children world¬wide. Its mission is to assist and inspire children who suffer from life-threatening diseases including cancer, leukemia and AIDS. The Foundation raises funds and awareness for medical research, as well as for individual and institutional medical needs. The vision of the Foundation is to achieve what Rihanna has always strived for in her remarkable music career – “to inspire with hope, courage and love.”

Ha yeah that is true but hey when he said that in the movie I was like hmmm that applies to her in real life too.

I have no idea how she played that role because alot of those issues they covered in the movie had to hit home with her.

I dunno... I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and hope you are that dumb that you believe that.

Furthermore, Rihanna simply has no talent. The song is good, but w/e. She's a flavor of the month.

She can't sing. She can't dance. She has nice legs and a massive forehead. That's all she has to offer.

And the number 1 song/album thing is NOT an amazing feat. Anyone knows the music industry knows how often that happens.

Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Usher, etc have already done this.
