Rise of Fascism in the United States [SPLIT]

It also could be coming from Bolton's side via info his lawyer has obtained. IT wasn't a new investigation, but Bolton's recent criticism of Trump likely touched off
DoJ interest in it again.

President Donald Trump revoked Secret Service protection for former Vice President Kamala Harris on Thursday as she prepares for a nationwide book tour.

Harris received six months of protection from the Secret Service after leaving office as required by federal law.

However, shortly before leaving office then-President Joe Biden quietly extended her protection by an additional year in an undisclosed directive not revealed until now, according to a CNN report.

Trump canceled the protection in a Thursday letter entitled ‘Memorandum for the Secretary of Homeland Security.’

Actually in the NYT...will wonders never cease?

The amount of money being wasted on Trump's follies is breath-taking. They claim that the Federal government needs to shrink the workforce, including those employees working on critical services. They claim that America can't afford to help address famines in other countries. They claim that America can't afford to feed their own children, in schools or at home.

Meanwhile, Republican politicians are spending millions of dollars to send National Guard soldiers from the South to Washington DC to stand around and pick up trash. Millions of dollars wasted because Trump wants to look like a strong-man dictator.

When Tennessee’s Republican governor, Bill Lee, dispatched his National Guard troops to Washington to support President Trump’s crackdown on crime, Democrats and other critics wondered why he didn’t keep them within state lines.

Memphis, after all, has long been one of the most dangerous cities in the country, with a murder rate about twice as high as the nation’s capital, according to F.B.I. statistics. Nashville has a higher rate of violent crime than Washington as well.

The same questions could be asked of other Republican governors like Greg Abbott in Texas, Mike DeWine in Ohio and Mike Kehoe in Missouri, since cities under their purview all have higher rates of violent crime than the nation’s capital. Yet no Republican governor has asked for federal intervention.

Judge says Trump administration’s use of US military in Los Angeles violated federal law

A federal judge ruled Tuesday that President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth violated federal law by using the US military to help carry out law enforcement activities in and around Los Angeles this summer.

US District Judge Charles Breyer concluded that Trump’s use of thousands of federalized California National Guard members and US Marines to provide protection to federal agents during an aggressive immigration crackdown in the Los Angeles area ran afoul of the Posse Comitatus Act, a 19th Century law that generally prohibits the use of troops for domestic law enforcement purposes.

Now, the Donald, is continuing to threaten Chicago ](*,)

Incredibly important ruling though.

For all the other cities that Trump is threatening. It basically means that Trump cannot make the military carry out law enforcement.

Which renders their presence meaningless.

I would expect a superior court to sustain Breyer's ruling.

But the corrupt Roberts Court could still strike the Act down since they seemm able to use their powers of pretzel legal logic to give the Executive Branch anything it needs to
transform in to a fascist oligarchy.

The problem is that the Supreme Court has limited nationwide injunctions from District Courts, so the ruling likely only applies to Los Angeles and possibly the rest of California. Judge Charles Breyer (brother of retired SCOTUS judge Stephen Breyer) is in the Northern District of California which is just the counties along the coast north of the San Francisco Bay area. He also granted a stay to allow Trump and Hegseth to appeal his ruling to the Ninth Circuit Appeals Court, which would just be the western US.

Trump sent 2,000 National Guard members to LA in June. He withdrew about 50% of those soldiers in July without much notice. This ruling is 2-1/2 months too late to have any relevance to stopping .

As precedent it is important though. Particularly if upheld by the Ninth Circuit.

And the troops are likely now to be fully withdrawn from LA and not reinstated.

Other jusrisdictions will likely use it...although there will likely be one Trump friendly judge that strikes it down leading to the SC taking it up.

As you note, fascist regimes rely on the snail's pace of jurisprudence...but there have also been a number of lightning fast rulings that have upset TrumpCo's plans and bought time.

We also need to remember that all of these fascistic actions are connected to Trump's abuse of the Emergency Powers Act. Every Democratic Presidential candidate needs to be asked whether they will support actions to fix separation of powers issues with Executive Orders, the Emergency Powers Act, the Department of Homeland Security and the Supreme Court. Until the system gets reformed, we're just waiting for the next President who abuses the law.

Are you listening US citizens??????????????????????????

So. A literal civil war.

Where troops from Texas would invade another sovereign state at the request of TrumpCo. under Title 32.

If it’s under Title 32 authority, the Texas guard remains under state control. That would mean that one state is deploying armed forces into the territory of a non-consenting state. And that’d clearly be a violation of the principle that states are co-equal, territorially limited sovereigns.

Listening? Probably not -- the Libertarian Party has been saying this for half a century and it hasn't sunk in.
Hmm... I would say that the libertarian branches of both major parties were saying this, too. Both were originally proponents of civil liberties.

The problem with the last couple of decades of the (capital "L") Libertarian Party is that they looked a little nutty with their "cult of the omnipotent state" and absolutist positions. It seemed that some of their positions were a little too, "A stopped clock has the right time twice a day". They were MAGA nutty before MAGA went nutty.

I particularly love it when James Weeks takes his clothes off and strips as part of his campaign speeches, although I have to give the Libertarians credit- they boo but they respect his right to dance around in a bikini brief in public.

Too bad the Libertarians are nowhere to be found in standing up to having the Federal military patrolling American streets... or having evangelical extremists telling Americans what they can and cannot do with their bodies.

I don’t think we’ll be waiting long. Trump is still a piker and doesn’t have the brains or fortitude to do anything truly radical but he has shown the path for those who, prior to his presidency, never saw the possibilities that office had to offer both power wise and financially.

It’s more likely than not that will be his eventual legacy.

I'm usually the optimist but, from where I sit, Democrats are wandering around with no plan to fix anything and Republicans are no longer Republicans... at least the Republicans who believed in power being invested in Congress as a representative democracy, limited government, pro-business policies and civil liberties.

Trump was bragging yesterday about the US blowing up a boat in the Caribbean that had 11 people on it. It was attacked apparently from a drone and on Truth Social (! ) he posted a video showing the moment that 11 people on the boat were killed.

In a statement from the White House, Trump said the boat had drugs on it and was coming out Venezuela. Trump justified the hit by saying that there were "lots of drugs" coming into "our country" and that Tren de Aragua was to blame.

However, objective news reporting (that included a map of the hemisphere) pointed out that the boat was not headed to the United States. The boat left Venezuela and appeared to be going east toward Trinidad, nowhere near the US.

So, who was in the boat? Why was it targeted if it was not headed toward the US?
