BRAVO, WELL SAID AND NEEDED TO BE SAID.

NO FLAMING HERE ON MY PART, BUT RATHER THANKS FOR TRYING TO MAKE A LOT OF HOMOSEXUALS HAVING SEX AWARE OR GIVE SOME THOUGHT TO WHAT THEY ARE DOING.

(note I am not screaming, just want to make a point, my apologies if this has offended anyone.)

the local village idiot who is computer illiterate and sociall irresponsible.

:=D: :=D: :=D: #-o #-o #-o

eM.

I guess its all about which risk you think its ok to take

Missed the thread on car insurance

seems like a silly thing to jump on someone about tho... no insult to anyone out there, cuz i didnt read the thread.

I will say this...

car accidents aren't contagious. I know that accidents dont only affect one person... not what im saying If you choose to choose to engage in unsafe sex then you risk perpetuating the ongoing chain of infections exponentially.

just an observation

You just won't let it go, will you?

Ok look... I ride a motorcycle... in LA.

I obvisouly am willing to take certain risks.

YES, you can catch HIV from oral sex. I know four people who claim to have caught HIV through oral sex, and I believe two of them for sure.

Nobody is denying it. And of course, I only know one person killing in a car accident, so you're probably right if you go by my statistics, that you're twice as likely to catch HIV from oral sex than drive in a car.

Or something.

However, being adults here, we ALL have to make up our minds which risks we're willing to take and which ones we're not. I ride a motorcycle, and insured or not, if I get into a bad accident, I will die. I know this, but I love riding so much that I'm willing to assume that risk.

I personally have decided that I'm willing to take the risk of HIV through oral sex... but that decision is for me and me only... you need to make your own decisions about which risks you're willing to take and which ones you're not.

Common sense should prevail - insurance of course - oral sex only if it is monogomous

Ditto here. I will never give up oral sex, I'll take the risk.

:-)

Well I don't go around giving head to just anyone so this thread has nothing on me.

I still think its retarded to drive a car w/o insurance and/or not wear a seatbelt also not wearing a helmet is retarded.

Plus more ..... (Probably not proof as far as some are concerned)

Well I thank you for this information. I have not kept up with the lastest HIV stuff, have not had the need to.
I know my info is pretty old, but last I heard that the risk of HIV was almost nonexistent with oral sex. Unless of course one had open sores in the mouth or on the lips, etc.
Only one more reason for me to love JUB, thanks again for this info.

you're right. it is. No arguements here.

It seems incredible that some members can get so aggressive about someone not wanting to take precautions (car insurance) whilst getting aggressive about someone urging precautions for oral sex.

I have a theory about that.

I think that as gay men, we've all be told over and over to stop having sex, and after a while, we either turn that message off or we defiantly have all the queer sex we can.

I too have said things along those lines., although you're right... using words like "Almost Zero" may be a case of "what I said vs what they heard".

True, although if you have a good doctor that you're out to and knows you're sexually active, he'll know to test you for it when you go for your regular check ups, and he'll catch it and cure it with a dose of anti-boitics.

HIV is still incurable.

I've said MANY times that gay men need to be out to their doctors if they're going to be sexually active and they need to go for frequent and regular check ups and check for any STIs.

I'm not getting into this rather tired arguement with you again, ok?

you can catch HIV from oral sex. It's rare. It happens. can't we argue about something different now?

Your risk of contracting HIV from oral sex is higher than your risk of dying in a car accident. (risk per blowjob versus risk per kilometre travelled.)

SourceEvidence for the occurrence of HIV transmission through oral sex is becoming clearer with the shift away from higher risk sexual behaviours....
There have been 13 cases of HIV infection through orogenital transmission reported in the UK, five of which have been published...

You're comparing apples with oranges, or rather, grapefruits with raisins.

What possible meaning could the comparison between the risk of an accident per kilometre and of HIV transmission per blowjob have? Do you know anybody who has more blowjobs than they do kilometres of driving?

And the statistic of 13 cases in the UK -- total, over how many years? -- isn't terribly alarming. How many of the 13 died? I'll bet more gay men have died from auto-asphyxiation in the same period, yet you don't see hysterical campaigns against that.

There's such a thing as risk/benefit analysis. Give us a reasonable set of statistics, and let us make up our own minds whether the risk is worth it. Certainly applies to scuba diving, hang gliding, and parachuting, all of which are more risky by far than unprotected oral sex.

OK, well I guess "hysterical" was a bit strong. But I still say that misleading statistics, designed to scare people, are not especially helpful. I think most of us know when we're being manipulated.

At this point, there are plenty more dangerous things to do than give somebody a blow job. How many gay men smoke? Or drink too much? Or use dangerous drugs? I'm pretty sure our suicide rate is higher than average, too. I just don't think avoiding oral sex deserves to be that high on the list of gay health priorities.

I'm also not convinced it's possible to get the numbers right anyway. People lie about sex -- there could easily be guys who won't admit they've had anal sex, and therefore they got HIV from oral. (Although on the other hand, there could also be guys who thought they got it from anal, when it was really from oral. A very slippery subject.)

ok.. but here in the USA, we measure in miles and not kilometers. does that lower or raise the chances?
