Probably because at that time these sorts of services had not yet been put into general practice; such as the guidelines for taking rape reports that we see used today.

Also remember the ages of these young boys and girls; they were more likely to hide what happened than happily go shouting it from the rooftops. I agree they have waited a considerable number of years to make their complaints known to the general public. It may well be that there seemed no real possibility of being believed until the press started investigating.

I think many of my age are so shocked by the revelations as these are the celebrities with whom we grew up. The people that we hurried home from school to watch on the TV. The famous people who appeared in our newspapers.

I would also refrain from the thought that suffering from sexual abuse during many years could be considered 'holding a grudge'. Suffering and psychological damage does not cease simultaneously with the abuser stopping his abuse.

Getting someone charged and convicted of rape is really difficult to do and in the past it was even harder, with a lot of police refusing to take rape seriously. Add in the fact that these people are celebs and you have the police not taking anything seriously. It takes people coming forward to let others start talking as well.

It is not holding a grudge, its finally being able to speak up on it. Children that are abused do not feel they can come forward, and that power lasts a long old time over people.

Being in Australia this news story has updates constantly on the news. Apparently today 18 more women are standing in line to give evidence of sexual misconduct against him. It's a high pedestal to fall from.

My first thought when I heard the sentence was "well, I guess they'll be taking down that portrait of the queen he did a few years back and throwing it in the furnace".



Off Topic - This is still the only official Australian portrait of the Queen that still hangs in Town Halls and schools etc.

Do you think he should not have been prosecuted? If so for which reason:

a) He is a celebrity.
b) It happened a long time ago
c) The girls should have reported it straight away
d) They should think themselves lucky he showed any interest in them

I understand he has been found guilty of indecent assault and for that he deserves his time behind bars, however Linda Nolan is a sexist liar who hates men and makes them out to all be chauvinist pigs she most likely only wants to sell a story for a little cash, she is desperate to get her face back in the media. Venessa Feltz has been just plain desperate to get back on TV don't be fooled by them two they are a peice of work.

I suggest you re-read my words in this thread and look at the documentary evidence I have presented in this thread.

My gripe is with the small amount of documentary evidence presented in the trial and the very LARGE amount of undocumented impressions and unquantifiable memories given by invisible 'persons unnamed'.

I get annoyed at this cloak of secrecy.

I think it depends on who owns the thing. Silly emotional people, the kind of people who enjoy celebrities —like the ones mentioned in post #68— will burn it.

But people like British queen who a strong sense of history know that fools who are salivating over this current with-hunt will change their mind in 2 decades. The shameful Irish convicts who were exiled to my land two centuries are now forgiven as being misunderstood and venerated as pioneers. Oscar Wilde was convicted for 2 years for playing with young rent-boys but he is now excused for his 'misdemeanour'.*

But are you sure it's still hanging in Town Halls, schools post offices and ALL government departments?

All the ones I know took it down over ten years ago and replaced it with all this—

Most local councils and parliaments I know no longer offer a routine prayer of allegiance asking God's guidance and wisdom in their deliberations but make a new prayer to unnamed mysterious native gods/spirits with unpronounceable names and their own cloak of secrecy.

*BTW; I am not comparing Harris with Wilde. Oscar Wilde was an Irishman but an artist of genuine talents.
