Romney over the top

Rexx do you feel he did a Stellar job when he debated Hillary? I thought she chewed him up and spit him out...She trained him to do battle with the old Man...

I thought they were both somewhat poor. But that assessment is in comparison to each other, not any of the Republicans.

Republicans don't argue on the basis of facts, evidence, reason, or scholarship. Because I value these things personally, the Republican debates always seem absurd to me.

in fairness, that classmate knew high school-aged Romney versus Harvard Law School student Obama... I'd expect any Harvard Law student to smoke a high schooler ;)

I disagree.

What Barthwell was commenting on was Romney's ordinariness in comparison to Obama's brilliance. I already knew in high school which of my classmates would be successful in life, and which would fail. And I knew precisely why each would succeed or fail (e.g., family money vs. innate ability vs. some character flaw). And I was absolutely correct, in every case.

But whereas Obama struck Barthwell as "brilliant" at Harvard... ...he recalled Romney's years at Cranbrook as nothing to write home about. "Mitt was not particularly popular. He was very, very ordinary."

Barthwell is saying that Romney was an average thug who went on to guaranteed success in life because of his family's money. Obama is a brilliant man who succeeded by virtue of his ability and rose above his ordinary circumstance by force of talent. Barthwell's observations may be wrong, but his assessment of the men seems insightful.

I think the debates will be interesting... Romney was a mess in 2008, but I thought he fared reasonably well in the 2012 GOP debates once he started taking them seriously (and got some good debate prep)

As I remarked above, Republican debates (and Republican candidates in mixed debates) just don't impress me. Their arguments are not persuasive to someone who thinks as I do. (E.g., a 3,000 year old fragment of text seems to say that God hates homosexuals, so that means we should pass a constitutional amendment to prevent them from marrying.   GWB doesn't know whether global warming is caused by human activity and he doesn't trust the scientists, so neither should anyone else.   ) Republican arguments - because they ignore evidence, reason, and facts - just don't make sense to me. So, Republicans always "lose" in my eyes. It's not very interesting.

I realize I may be in the minority in this, but I just don't find arguments absent of logic very interesting.

we will see won't we

I don't know Sidney but he's entitled to his opinion

He also said that Mittens was not anti-gay

You seem to be implying that your candidate IS anti-gay, which he claims not to be.

Do you think your candidate is lying?

It's a sad day for the Republican Party. Their candidate is the primary loser of 2008. A rich, clueless man of privilege who lacks a conservative background and has waffled worse than, dare I say, John Kerry. Romney is the Republican version of John Kerry. Considering Kerry still lost to what was the worst president in American history, I must say Romney has no chance against a decently good incumbent president.

I]IS[/I][/B] anti-gay, which he claims not to be.

actually i was referring to the gentlemen's comment about the infamous "gay bashing" episode - the one that happened to run the day after pres. obama supported same sex marriage

the one that claimed that romney was a gay basher

your guy - the one who thinks obama is brilliant and romney a rube ........ said romney was not anti gay

not as bad as an anti-gay idiot is all

Dunno who said what, I think he's just a cold cruel asshole with no morals. I'm sure he doesn't hate gays, or anyone really. Hating implies caring, and I am yet to see a sign of Mitt Romney caring about anyone.

you're just so free with your "opinions" about everything

he's a "cold cruel asshole"

why don't you just go to bed

and save some "cold cruel asshole" comments for another day

no sense in using up your quota

I don't know if I'd call Romney "cold and cruel", but he gives every indication of not seeing people as, well, people. As in his Bain days, ripping off companies and employees and taxpayers alike, not caring about anything but getting more dollars, he just blithely ambles along with remarks showing he really hasn't changed. Cheerfully asserting "I like firing people", and claiming to have saved Detroit, show he doesn't care at all about the targets of his actions, on the one hand, or about the truth, on the other.

He may be smarter than Bush was, but he's just as oblivious to the world.

I'm sorry. I got lost in the personal attack and missed the part where you even try to disprove me...

And I'm good for now. In fact, I'm considering a 2 AM snack...

more not knowing so much

you rail about Fox "lying" yet u keep up this Bain bullshit which is nothing but Pres. Obama's campaign bumper sticker approach - similar to the Buffett Rule

Capitalism creates jobs. Venture capitalism creates wealth. The expression "nothing ventured, nothing gained" means exactly that. Venture capitalists should be celebrated, not scorned.

I described exactly what Bain did. People need to know that Romney's "business success" was a matter that involved ripping off the taxpayers at both ends of the deal.

Free enterprise creates jobs -- capitalism may or may not.

Venture capitalism gambles on creating jobs -- all Bain gambled on was moving fast enough to suck money out of companies before getting stuck with a corporate corpse.

Herre's venture capitalism:
Template:Find Venture Capital Funds

Venture capital (VC) is financial capital provided to early-stage, high-potential, growth startup companies. The venture capital fund makes money by owning equity in the companies it invests in, which usually have a novel technology or business model in high technology industries, such as biotechnology, IT, software etc. The typical venture capital investment occurs after the seed funding round as growth funding round (also referred as Series A round) in the interest of generating a return through an eventual realization event, such as an IPO or trade sale of the company.

Venture capitalism goes with young companies that look promising.

That's not what Romney did. He and his pals manipulated provisions in the law to "flip" companies and milk the taxpayers on the way by.
