Romney's Speech Insures His election

It just infuriates me. I know some who had to live in El Salvador during those times, and lost several family members to death squads... they weren't politically aligned either. The death squads operated with no regard for human life and killed anyone they suspected was part of the FMLN. That included Archbishop Oscar Romero.

I just hope Benvolio realizes he cannot even try to argue this one. There is no defense.
When the communists take over, they execute all the opposition. El Salvador doesn't seem much different than what has been gong on in the Hispanic countries forever. Democracy does not seem to take hold in the Hispanic countries, for some reason.

I'm countering your nonsensical post with a not so nonsensical picture:

Absolute bullsh*t. And I'm going to call you out on that. Most of the executions were committed by the Salvadorean Military and death squads. You don't understand what is going on in "Hispanic countries". Democracy does not seem to take hold? It has definitely. In many countries. Take for example Costa Rica. And more recently Argentina, Chile, Brazil... which have ushered in a recent period of strong democratic tradition.

The US was responsible for the toppling of democratically elected leaders, so it is the United States that did not want democracy to take hold in several countries. Chile had a strong tradition of democracy, and Allende was democratically elected... until the US saw him as a threat and wanted him removed by undemocratic means. But that isn't the first case of such happening.

United States occupation of Nicaragua - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - These are stories you don't know much about I presume.

Jacobo Árbenz - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - Or regarding Jacobo Arbenz, a democratically elected leader the United States ousted. He later allegedly died in a bathtub "accidentally" through drowning... which is complete BS.
The communists did not take over in El Salvador, fortunately. But when they do take over, they execute all the opposition, and would have done so in ES if given the chance. Do you think the people of North Korea and Cuba are better off than the people of ES? Communism doesn't work and it is the worst tyranny in modern time, along with the Nazis.
Allende was a communist as well and that was in the cold war. We could not allow the communists to obtain a toe hold in Latin America.
Other than that, the operative word is recent. Some countries, like Chile, Argentina have democracies at the moment, but historically, they have proven to be short lived. Venezuela was a democracy for awhile but Chavez now would have to be considered a dictator. Tiny Costa Rica is an encouraging exception and appears to be stable. It is not racial, it is cultural and economic. There is something about the Hispanic culture which makes the people more accepting of authoritarian rule. But, I think the biggest problem is that when they have turned to democracy, they have always adopted the Presidential system of an elected chief executive, rather than the Parliamentary system used in most of the world. The difference is that it is easy for an elected president to make himself a dictator. It has happened time and time again. Then too, democracy has tended to need a strong middle class. The Hispanic countries have too often had a few rich and a great many very poor.

He also has the Veterans against him. He said nothing in his speech about Veterans or what he is gonna do to help them return from an illegal war and get the medication for their brain injuries.

His attack on the current administration's foreign policy near the end of the speech seemed tacked on, rushed, and insincere. It was obviously written by someone else who wanted to take those jabs. Like the speechwriter while proofreading noticed "hey, I didn't include anything about foreign policy, I better tack on these quick few sentences about Israel lies and Iran's centrifuges to stir the pot." It sounds good to a crowd who thinks BO is a muslim anti-christ.

The major focus for the Romney campaign was to make Mittens more appealing to "regular" Americans - the non 1% ers - Pres. Obama's posse has done a great (and dishonest) job at defining Romney as evil, money hungry, tax evader, felon?, uncaring and in a word unlikeable - to date, Mitten's campaign has done little to deflect

An advisor to Obama's 2008 campaign thinks it was a big success ....

"I think the Romney campaign needs to continue what it started last night. It's done a really good job, thanks to the candidate, of defining itself," said David Morey, vice chairman of Core Strategy Group and an adviser to Obama's 2008 campaign.

Loved the story about his parents and his dad giving his mom a rose everyday - that she knew something was wrong when a rose was not there - he had died - great share

Clearly Mittens is behind the eight ball but I think his convention and speech helped him - how much still to be determined

Romney gets personal, more likeable - CNN.com

At least not yet. I'm sure someone will pick up on this... and run with it. There is legitimacy to the story. It's not something to be dismissed. Look up a name. Roberto D'Aubuisson.

He is one of the most brutal figures of the Salvadorean Civil War... and he was a ruthless killer. Mitt Romney took money from families who funded his activities.

Mitt Romney Started Bain Capital With Money From Families Tied To Death Squads

Comments on an article he hasn't read as if he read it and then says it wasn't worth reading.

That's smart.

Again this just shows how xenophobic your rants are. I don't know why it's allowed on here. You make blanket statements about cultures you don't understand. And you want to know why many countries in Latin America are poor? Because of the United States. The United States made them that way through a history of exploitation. These are just simple little facts you don't understand. Oh and Argentina had a historically strong middle class, until the US backed another Coup there because they were afraid of some leftist rebels.

And almost all the anti-democratic, anti-liberty meddling in Latin America was driven by the same thing the GOP says government should be: business.

Without fail, every time the US has employed military or political power to assist business, the results have been negative.

One of the most early cases of that was the US intervention into Nicaragua.

United States occupation of Nicaragua - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is often ignored in history. It's not very appealing. Tied to the United Fruit Company. Pro-Business President Taft backed the whole operation.

This ended up with catastrophic results... with the US backed Somoza family having a near grip on the country for decades.

I once met a Somosista and his son. The son, thirteen, was an incredible shot with a rifle and a shotgun. His goal in life was to turn eighteen and then go home and shoot communists.

Daily Kos: Families of Bain Capital's original investors had ties with El Salvador's infamous death squads

Here is another article on the matter. This is just something that needs to be brought up time and time again. I really hope the Obama campaign brings this up. It's vitally important. This is something Reagan should have been prosecuted for. Reaganites backed D'Aubuisson and his ARENA paramilitary squads (D'Aubuisson founded ARENA). ARENA is still a prominent political party in El Salvador.

Legislative Assembly of El Salvador - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (They have 33 seats in the 84 Parliament in the country)

85 percent of killings related to El Salvador's civil war were committed by paramilitary death squads linked to D'Aubuisson and ARENA, and who were funded by prominent families that also funded Bain Capital. That percentage is backed by a US Congressional study.

Mitt Romney is just another Reaganite... who will do anything for money... even when it involves taking money from those who financed atrocities.

the Daily Kos is your smoking gun? ;)

they eat sleep and breathe for one reason

and we all know what that is

back to the drawing board GC

not that I'm not pro-gay marriage, but is recognition of a marriage by the government really necessary to consider yourself part of a family?

...It's only the back of the bus if YOU FEEL it's the back of the bus...

No, it's really the back of the bus however we feel about it.

Yes, where are Chance's citations? I've named several sources. Oh and the Daily Kos cites references and citations themselves. MASSIVE FAIL chance. Maybe next time get back to me with something real rather then your usual character attacks. You are the one that needs to get back to the drawing board.

Since some are unwilling to read here are the sources Daily Kos uses for its story:

Mitt Romney Started Bain Capital With Money From Families Tied To Death Squads (One I brought up before)

Bain Capital started with help of offshore investors - Los Angeles Times

Truth Commission: El Salvador | United States Institute of Peace

Mitt Romney Just Delighted To Wave Around His Blood-Soaked Death Squad Dollars

He took money from families tied to D'Aubuisson. Somebody who used to torture people with blowtorches.

Do you have anything, chance? Or just the usual empty banter?

Edit: Oh wait. I get it. If your argument fails miserably, attack the source.

the daily kos is the daily kos - if you want to use it as a source, expect it to be challenged/ignored - they're financed and operated to defeat repubs

I read the LA Times article - they don't mention D'Aubisson - why is that?

you seem fixated on this topic - perhaps Priorities for America will bring back Joe Soptic to star a :30 ad about this - give him a spanish accent maybe

your posting reminds me of a great scene in a great movie "The Untouchables"

Your D'Aubisson link is the troubling one - where is it in the LA Times article?

sorry for your friend but that doesn't put it on Romney

why isn't msnbc running with this? they begging for romney material
