Re: Rosie O'Donnell's TV show canceled by OWN

OWN is a giant mess. There is not one decent show on it. Oprah should have stayed on her show for two more years to promote own. Sadly I do not see own lasting the year.

Re: Rosie O'Donnell's TV show canceled by OWN

All cable networks go through this.

The problem is when was the last time we heard of a new network? Exactly. We are so ignorant to the process we have forgotten what it takes.

OWN is doing better than it ever has now because Oprah is actually on it and she will just have to stay on board.

Re: Rosie O'Donnell's TV show canceled by OWN

Ever since she did that movie where she plays a retard, I stopped liking her so I don't really care. The more shes off television, the better.

Re: Rosie O'Donnell's TV show canceled by OWN

She just always seems so bitter and nasty. It's hard to believe there was a time when she wanted to model her show after that of Mike Douglas. She just always seems pissed off now, same thing with David Letterman. Life is too short to hang around bad vibrations.

Re: Rosie O'Donnell's TV show canceled by OWN

I feel America gave up on Rosie after her problems on The View. If Rosie was smart, she would give up on TV and find other ways to use her talents.

Re: Rosie O'Donnell's TV show canceled by OWN

She did not leave in disgrace. That's a misconception.

She left because her contract ended. I guess the truth is too boring to believe. People prefer a more dramatic falsehood than the boring truth.

I remember her saying that her contract wasn't renewed because after the 9/11 debate episode, Barbara Walters approached Rosie in her dressing room to comfort her, and she EXPLODED at her. She served out the remainder of her contract and that was it.

Re: Rosie O'Donnell's TV show canceled by OWN

I love Rosie.
I just think she's an acquired taste for many. She's bold, brass, opinionated, and it takes a certain kind of person to understand that kind of personality.
I do think there is FAR to much blatant negativity thrown at her for no reason other than she's a very easy target - she's an overweight, loud, opinionated out liberal lesbian (a totally different personality and look than, say, Ellen)...and there are a lot of folks who just can't handle that.

In a way, that's why I like her. She is who she is, stands up for a lot of things that so many others remain silent on, gives attention to issues others ignore, and doesn't conform to some hetero-sexist 'play it safe' mode to be liked or successful (at least not anymore).

I will say that since she has been more honest about how hormonally imbalanced she was due to her menopause, and now is treated properly for it, she does seem far more relaxed. She's stated even her kids have mentioned it to her.

As some have said above, I just think a cable network wasn't going to be the place for a show like that... not what it was up against, the issues already with OWN, the changing formats/times/etc... they just made a mess of it.
For those saying Ro hasn't been good at anything...please. Her daytime talk show was rivaling Oprah for years, and O knew it. I think she would have been on for years if she had stayed.

Re: Rosie O'Donnell's TV show canceled by OWN

I don't even know anyone who would want to see Rosie as a host on a talk show. Seriously. It's just NOT her thing at all. I never find her relate-able, fun, or enjoyable to watch.

I mean I tune into Ellen and I always have a great time. I can't even bring myself to watch Rosie's show.

Re: Rosie O'Donnell's TV show canceled by OWN

As for OWN, the brass that Oprah has to create a network name exclusively after herself. I guess she doesn't want an old white guy such as Ted Turner to be the only rich philanthropist with their own network. And yet, what is she doing with it? I can only conjure up continuous programming about women talking about their vajajays.

Have you actually seen OWN? I've watched it almost every day since the launch on Jan. 1, 2011 and not one time can I even remember anyone saying the word vajajay or any of its variations.

I think OWN will succeed. She just needs to reformat and come up with new, fresh shows, instead of silliness like Kidnapped by the Kids and Welcome to Sweetie Pies and the damn O'Neils and Judds. Master Class, Super Soul Sunday, Life Class, and Next Chapter can definitely stay. If Oprah can put on a show like American Idol or X-Factor or something like that, I think she'd have a hit on her hands. Or (and I really hate to even suggest it) if she can get Tyler Perry to put a show on there, she'd have a hit. Right now, most of the programs are geared toward her hardcore fans like myself who enjoy the spiritual new-age emotional programming she has on now.

And no, I don't think Oprah was egotistical by naming her network OWN. What was she supposed to name it, the Gayle King Network? The You-Get-A-Car Network? I could've sworn the show she had for twenty-five years was called The Oprah Winfrey Show.

Re: Rosie O'Donnell's TV show canceled by OWN

Gayle King is an appendage. She will never be a success on TV. Rosie's career on TV is over at this point. I did like her breif radio show last year that was on Sirius XM All-Stars.

Re: Rosie O'Donnell's TV show canceled by OWN

I will miss watching the show on her website :(

>>>If Oprah can put on a show like American Idol or X-Factor or something like that, I think she'd have a hit on her hands

The network seems bogged down with limp retreads of shows on other networks right now. An Idol show would definitely not be the way to go, since it's all about huge spectacle...on a network with really small ratings.

That said, I wouldn't say a music/talent show wouldn't work. But it would have to be modest in scope. Two ideas off the top of my head.

* Advertise in Chicago (or some other city) for singers for something modest. A vocalist for some local on-stage variety show, for instance. See what kind of singers show up, see how they audition, and then give the winner some sort of surprise large-scale gig. The show could cover both the audition process, and the preparation as the "local girl/guy" has to prepare to perform in front of thousands.

* Take the other vantage point. Follow would-be singers and actors to auditions, for plays or bands or roles. Watch as they get rejected for many, and achieve a few.

Re: Rosie O'Donnell's TV show canceled by OWN

Sorry Guys but no one wants to turn on OWN and watch the next Singing Sensation...They can watch all the Reality Singing Contests they want on FOX & NBC for FREE...

Oprah is all about branding...Quality reality shows like "Sweetie Pies", News shows like Lisa Ling, Major interview specials, Movies, Oprah's signature self-help series and whatever else they can market to the 25-50yr olds is what should work....

All of this will take years to work...This will NEVER happen over-night for a New Network....Comcast, Direct TV, TimeWarner Cable, Dish Network do not plan on letting Oprah or Discovery go anytime soon....They are adding more New Networks as we speak....It's a never ending life-sycle...They lump them all together...

This ain't Regular TV folks.....

Re: Rosie O'Donnell's TV show canceled by OWN

I didn't realize that they had changed the format on Rosie's show to one on one interviews. (How about some promos on the other Discovery networks, guys)

Tonight's show with Lily Tomlin is really good.

Rosie made a very classy announcement about being canceled. She did read Donald Trump's tweet, but it didn't seem to upset her.

Re: Rosie O'Donnell's TV show canceled by OWN

Yeah I read she was not upset. Hopefully the show will be on her site soon. I like Lily.

I like this idea.

Of course, I wasn't talking about a talent competition on the scale of AI, X-Factor, and the others. That would probably cost too much money for a network like OWN, but the goal is to do something that's geared toward a younger audience and the 18-49 demographic. I watch a lot of OWN, but I still wouldn't watch Sweetie Pies for anything in the world.

>>>Oprah Winfrey Network Lays Off One-Fifth Of Staff

This suggests that perhaps she's NOT in it for the long haul. Unless she really bloated the payroll at the outset.
