Let us hope the president,if he has got the message already,does not refuse this.....though I don't think he will.A disaster at managing the war and reconstruction effort in Iraq,this should have happened over two years ago...when a focused effort might have produced better results,and a chance for success...if not a full transition to a democratic culture,which takes time,experience,and popular acceptance.Hope his successor does care about keeping Iraq from falling apart and further creating destabilization in the Middle East.

And I hope Rummy doesn't get a Medal of Freedom for failure,as many Iraq fuckups have already received.His arrogance and malfeasance has done more to contribute to the present mess than anyone else.

Bob Gates is the nominee for replacing Rumsfeld as Defense Secretary.

I have to believe there are more than of a couple of former republican congressmen who are thinking too little too late. Especailly since Bush just said he talked to Gates down at the ranch on Sunday. If he was going to make the move why wait?

Wow...the Democrats take the House, the Senate is about to fall, too, Rumsfeld retreats...now if only the President would fall into some bottomless pit, never to be heard from again, this will truly be the most magical week in history.
