RuPaul's Drag Race Season 6

Ok WHAT. Did not see that coming. It feels like it's past Darienne's time, and her looks this week were pretty bad - particularly when she went for Nicky Minaj but ended up with holographic Pyjama's - so I'm quite shocked that she was allowed to stay over Ben. Especially since Ben was perfectly fine during the lipsych, and otherwise. Admittedly not great or anything, but fine.

Adore wins, and her looks were pretty good, but her make-up was terrible. It feels like everybody just ignored that to give her a storyline. Nothing new from Bianca and Courtney, although I did love latters ruby-red make-up.

At this point the season (and the contestants) are getting a little limp, which is not unusual for any reality tv competition. I've had a lot of fun with season 6, but I think I'm now ready to crown Bianca and take a break.

Glitter Ball episode.

Are.You.MOTHERFUCKING.KIDDING.ME!?

that is all. Stick a fork in me, I'm done. :dead: :##:

wow.

Not sure how I feel about Ben going home. She was the only one that had a chance of beating Bianca. It looks like the final 3 will be Bianca, Courtney and Adore.

Don't want to make this political buy what do you guys thing about the whole "she-mail" controversy.

I wasn't happy about it either. I feel like they will be in the top 3, but with the amount of curve balls (Gia, Trinity, now Ben) this season, who knows for sure?

While I thought it was funny, if that many people are offended by it, then I think they did the right thing taking it out. I'm just wondering where all those voices were before, since the show's been on for six years now. Maybe that whole guessing game really brought the issue to light? I'm not sure.

I would be interested to hear what others have to say on this as well.

I'm totally out of the loop of any "she mail" controversy...I noticed the phrase was absent this episode, but like you said, this is the 6th season. Where did these voices come from?

But seriously? Dairy Anne's (or whatev) looks were either atrocious (her banjee & extravaganza) or just plain underwhelming (her executive realness). This season has been...interesting.

Darienne's (Dairy Anne!? :rotflmao:) banjee look was one of the most hilarious looks I've seen in the history of this show. :dead:

That's not humor, buddy.

People were truly offended. I have to spell that out?

Darriene looked like a knockoff Jade Jolie in that banjee outfit. And those shoes that she used with it were equally just as bad.

The use of the word She Mail was not used in a way to downgrade transsexuals on this show. As seen by the "Female" or "Shemale" mini challenge, shemale was used to poke fun at dudes in drag. I did not see one transexual. When did it suddenly become about trannies (oops, is that not politically correct, too?). Drag race is one of the top, or IS the #1, show on mainstream TV that sheds positive light on the LGBT community. I've made my straight male friends watch it and they enjoy it for what it is... dudes in wigs competing for a fictitious title. It is NOT that serious. If it weren't for RuPaul and this show I would've never seen drag queens the way I do now. All of a sudden everyone wants to be so damn sensitive.

End rant.

It was hard to tell. You usually have something to say that can make the person you are quoting look bad and your comments can come off as sarcastic and mean-spirited.

Regardless, no you don't have to spell it out, but I don't feel as though the question was thoroughly answered by your response.

It's pretty obvious that people were offended. I think the question that I have is where were those people before. Why did they wait six years to speak up? I have guessed as to why it became more of an issue now, but it just seems like something that should have caused outrage earlier seeing as how people were so offended.

People who were offended.

For those uninterested in having the obvious being pointed out, here's a link for those of us who were in the dark as to any "she-mail" controversy.

http://www.dragofficial.com/10/post/2014/04/logo-says-sashay-away-to-she-mail-she-male.html

“We wanted to thank the community for sharing their concerns around a recent segment and the use of the term ‘she-male’ on Drag Race,” said a network spokesperson. “Logo has pulled the episode from all of our platforms and that challenge will not appear again.”Furthermore, we are removing the ‘you’ve got she-mail’ intro from new episodes. We did not intend to cause any offense, but in retrospect we realize that it was insensitive. We sincerely apologize.”

I was not pleased to see Ben go, but I get why she was eliminated. When I saw her three runway looks, I knew she was in the cross-hairs.

Darriene... well, just do NOT like her and I like her less with each passing week.

Adore has grown on me the last couple of episodes and all things being equal, I think she did deserve the win.

Bianca needs to mix it up the look a bit more.

And Courtney is pretty, but just seems kinda one note after all this time.

That outfit is going to give someone a seizure. Good god, has Darienne never heard of Missy Elliott or Queen Latifah? Her jewel dress was bad too... I'm really over her, and really think she's done next episode.

As for the rest, of all the jewel dresses, only Adore took me to something grand, and Courtney, much as I don't want to give her praise, her look was good too. The rest of the "ball"... was a miss.

I'm glad Ben was cast out. That final dress looked like something he pranced around in episode 1 or 2. So over it. And that bedazzled potato chip on his head? Seriously. That said, Dariennes looks were atrocious! She's a big girl who doesn't know how to dress a big body.

Woo hoo, Adore! Didn't get my double elimination or Gia back, but Adore at the top was worth the price of admission!

I'll keep that in mind going forward.

The thing is they get dumped on enough as it is so I’m reluctant to add any fuel to that fire. But we all know the backlash is coming from certain members of the trans community. And it’s not just them. You can also add the PC police, overzealous activists, the humorless, or any combination thereof. Take your pick.

I don’t think these voices are necessarily new, it’s just that the 'Female or Shemale' game is the straw that broke their collective backs. I’m thinking their concerns and actions are misguided and misdirected at best, as this is the only show I can think of that regularly features trans men and women--and always in a positive light.

It does seem a little on the extreme side, but I can live with the removal of the game and the words. But how about from now on just leave this show alone and target the real enemies before it really does become "RuPaul’s Barney and Friends."

P.S. Gay Roger could have added an article link or two. :) It could't have hurt, right?

I liked Darienne as Slave Leia. (I just wish she would have done the cinnamon bun 'do.)

^Her saying that that was what she was going for, to me, read like a cop-out. I mean, she's a mother-fishing drag queen... she should know that if you have to explain it, you failed.

I always thought "She-Mail" was hilarious, but I'm cis, and it's ultimately not really my place to judge which trans jokes are appropriate and which aren't.

I've been called "oversensitive" a bunch of time, and always by assholes who were dead wrong about the subject in question. So I'm gonna think real hard before calling someone else "oversensitive".

As for "Why now": The show just got more popular. There were critical voices from early on.
