This is sad even for the GOP.

Jindal is the Manchurian Candidate, and the GOP is the deranged mother in tow with the Communist powers to overthrow the government. For Mr. Rhodes Scholar, Jindal, to agree to play the savior part for the GOP as a challenge to the popularity and new direction of President Obama is a laughably transparent scheme by the Republicans to slap some fresh paint on old ideas in the pitiful vein of resurrecting their failed policies and misguided values. Jindal's ideology is so backward you have to look at it with a mirror to make sense (that which can be had) of it. Back to the point of such a intelligent guy being the propped up wonder boy...for a party desperate for the power they squandered over eight years of nearly destroying this country. Some people just don't know when to bow out gracefully with what dignity they have left.

My purpose was not so much to dismiss Jindal as a potential candidate (which I'm not) but to point out how rudderless the Republicans seem to be. The country needs a strong opposition party but not one lead by the likes of a Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity. Mary Matalin is an acknowledged leader in the GOP. To have her call this a mini-crisis and compounding it by looking to Rush for direction is IMO pitiful!

It isn't completely irrelevant.

I was merely making the point that just because a lot of people do something, it doesn't make them better for doing so...in some cases, as in smoking or listening to a lying bigoted gasbag hatemonger as he cowers behind his "It's just entertainment!" shield, it makes them demonstrably less healthy. In some cases, it harms their physical health. In others, mental functionality suffers.

Can't agree that listening to Limbaugh makes anyone "demonstrably less healthy."

But I do think Rush leads people in a direction that's not good for our country. And my point is he has influence over a great many voters and therefore it's foolish for Democrats to dismiss him as "dead" just because Republicans are out of power. In fact people like Limbaugh tend to be more powerful as opposition.

How can any politician reject the need for funding for volcano protection, but at the same time accept funding for Hurricane relief? Both are potential localized disasters, so how can one in either location claim one is less important than the other? I'm sure if Louisiana had an active volcano, he would have a different stance on the issue.

Oh, I brought up the volcano thing obviously because Rush reminds me of a volcano. Spouts alot of hot air and gas, a danger to society, and is only interesting as a spectacle.

I have to agree with you, Nick. Obama's first televised address to the nation was a little awkward. He pauses way too much, most likely not to have a clear thought but because he's trying too hard to chose his words very carefully. In the process he comes off a bit hesitant, and dare I say, unprepared. His teleprompter speeches are just the opposite - he comes off intelligent, articulate, inspirational and commanding.

There's nothing wrong with a man who thinks before he speaks.
We don't need any more "fool me once" gaffes from any President.

Jindal virtually said the government had nothing to do with rebuilding in Louisiana, when in fact that government has pumped billions of federal dollars into that state.

Who even listens to Rush Limbaugh? He's precisely what's wrong with this country and the far right in general. He's such an embarrassment. I think he thinks he still lives in the 1960's.

As for Jindal, I have my strong doubts that he'll even be relevant as a possible candidate by 2012, especially after seeing how little charisma he has. He comes off like a slime ball, and his skin isn't fair enough for many white conservatives to throw their support behind him, let's just be honest about that.

I agree 110%. I want to pull for Jindal against the other GOPers, but I know they're gonna do to him what they tried to do with Obama. Have you seen Jindal's real name? That's gonna be a problem for a lot of the Southern ilk, and Palin and her patsies will jump at the chance to exploit it.

The Republican Party is fast becoming (or perhaps has already become) such an ill-fit for an ever changing America. Back when it was mostly small town whites who barely knew anything beyond their own culture, values, and lifestyles who did most of the voting, conservatism ruled. But things are changing, and not in a way that will be favorable to the right. Unless of course they change as well. But they won't. Conservatism is always at odds with change and evolution.

Yeah, there's no such thing as a conservative hero. For all their barbs about Obama being "The One" and the "Messiah", they seemed to forget that messiahs tend to usher in a great deal of change.

I won't be bothering to play the video. I am in no mood to listen to Rush Limbaugh or any other radio "personality" on a Republican Talking Points program.

With our current president, Barack Obama, we've made the second consecutive political party switch going from Republican to Democratic via a fucked-up economy. So, believe me, I have no regard for anything from Mr. Limbaugh.

However appalling Limbaugh is, he does serve a purpose. Through him and others of his ilk, we see the true nature of the GOP. We need to know what we're up against. "Know thine enemy."

Americans who listen to and agree with his opinions already subscribe to those opinions, no matter how misguided or hateful. These people cannot be desuaded. There are non-soluble extremists on both(many) ends of our political spectrum.

Elections are won by the moderates: Americans that have the intellect or motivation to see past all the bullshit to make an informed decision.

Jindal was an attempt at "...wearing sheeps' clothing." The message was all "Wolf". This is the GOP's "new" strategy. Full-out unabashed deception.
