Russian Invasion of Ukraine

As the fighting continues, Hungary's Orban is amping up his pro-Kremlin anti-EU stance and will prevent talks regarding Ukraine's accession to the EU until at least March 2024.

As well, Orban/Kremlin operatives are meeting with US Republicans to try to bring a halt to aid to Ukraine.

This is a very dangerous time and if Europe and the EU falter, Putin will eventually roll over Europe and regain control of the US government as well.

Zelensky is in Washington where hopefully a meeting with the Speaker will unlock aid to Ukraine.

I think the west is doing what Putin knew would happen...it has gotten bored and is ready to capitulate to the Kremlin.

When half hearted measures haven't resulted in Ukraine getting rrrZZia out...the US and other allies will likely do what it did after 2014....just give enough aid to keep the conflict going indefinitely in order to distract PutinCo.

I'm sure that Putin thought something like this might happen and he must be pleased. The Republicans are playing hard ball to bargain for what they want. Give the other side something they want if they give you what you want. When it hurts someone it isn't good, and that is putting it lightly.

^ Again, they are holding the government and other peoples' rights and lives hostage to get what they want.

Last night 41 out of 42 Shaheds were shot down...no word yet on how many of the 6 cruise missiles were shot down but it appears that some hit targets. Defense Intelligence has more or less corroborated the casualty figures and yesterday was a day of significant losses. Putin claims on television though, that the USSR 2.0 has 617,000 troops in Ukraine though.

All 20 Shaheds and the Iskander missile were shot down last night.

rrrZZZia is making small incremental gains in some areas at great cost...even with 617,000 mobiks in Ukraine, this should be unsustainable unless rrrZZia has now stripped all its forces in other areas of trained forces and battle worthy equipment.

Frontline Ukrainian troops face shortages of artillery shells and have scaled back some military operations because of a shortfall of foreign assistance, Brigadier General Oleksandr Tarnavsky reports.

The problem has been that the western countries fail to deliver the ammunition and equipment they have promised.

And this is allowing RzzIA to make incremental gains in Donetsk and Luhansk.

rrrZZia may say they have 617,000 forces in Ukraine right now....but the question is still what kind of shape are they in?

Interesting observation from British Defense Intelligence

3 SU24 jets today.

And 24 out of 28 Shaheds in addition to the 23 out of 24 shot down yesterday.

rrrzzzia is using its time well in Ukraine.

It is now reported that trenches are being turned in fortress lines.

Putin knows all he has to do is establish a defensive line at this point and he can freeze the conflict.

The line heading south toward Melitipol will present a nearly formidable obstacle to move either east or west for Ukraine.

rareboy do you believe Putin is ready/willing to cut a deal now?

Putin's deal will be the same as 2014.

Freeze the conflict. Keep everything they have stolen and then try to take over Ukraine from within again by making sure it doesn't join the EU or NATO.

Rebuild their military and then invade in another decade again.

Since the conflict is essentially frozen recognizing that reality is a good place to begin. Once the fighting stops the first order of business for the Ukraine is start digging and make it as difficult for the Russians to go west as it is for the Ukrainians to go east and then turn west economically at first and then build up the military to make yourself attractive to NATO and turn Putin’s victory into a strategic defeat.
In attempting to project power in Europe the Russians unintentionally made themselves appear weak when Azerbaijan went after Nagorno-Karabakh and the Russian security guarantees proved empty for the Armenians. Gaining territory in the west at the cost of trouble in central and east Asia is bad strategy for Putin.
I agree Putin will need ten yrs to reboot his military. I think, like North Korea, Putin has spent the last ten yrs adding weapons to his arsenal that have no offensive use and both countries would be wise to start producing weapons of the fighting kind as opposed to the scary kind.

https://nypost.com/2023/12/23/news/putin-may-be-open-to-cease-fire-with-ukraine-report/

He's apparently willing to agree to a ceasefire, but I don't see Ukraine agreeing to the terms.
Mr. Zelensky needs to take a clear eyed look at what he is facing and the possibility that those supplying his arms today may not come 2025 or before. He could still end up in Siberia for a 30yr stint. After fighting bravely the Finns gave up territory to Stalin in order to save the majority of their country and today are proud of that war. Zelensky should look to that and find something he can work with, failing that someone will have to sit him down and make him an offer he can’t refuse with all the meaning that phrase contains.

Zelensky knows that if they accept the loss of territory as it is...Ukraine will cease to exist in another decade.

We actually watched genocide in March of 2022.

Nearly 20,000 children have been kidnapped and forced to go to rrrZZia. Putin is a war criminal wanted by the Hague for these crimes.

Allowing Putin a win will be the end of Europe as a democratic federation.

Allowing Putin to win will mean the Kremlin goes back to business as usual in trying to destroy the United States.

This is a clear eyed vision of what Ukraine is facing.

Remember, Zelensky knows he will be dead if Putin wins...he famously rejected being transported out in 2022, saying "I don't need a ride...I need ammunition".

So it is Christmas Eve and that means that rrrZZZia is attacking with Shahed drones and shelling to create terror.

I am hoping that for Orthodox rrrZZian Zmas....UA delivers a real present to Mockba and the Kerch Bridge.

You think more of Putin and the Russians than I do, if the war ends where it is today even calling this a victory for Putin is generous. No doubt he’d like to cause the mischief you describe but he’s all desire no capacity. Once this ends Putin would be wise to go back to rattling sabers which he is good at and not picking them up which all evidence indicates he is bad at.
