Pro football player Ryan Russell and his boyfriend Corey made a 'coming out' video.

We need more pro sports players on sports like baseball, hockey and football to be as matter of fact and open in order to be the example for young kids who feel trapped in the sports closet.

Wishing him all the best in finding a team to take him on. (Besides our team)

Better out than in!

I'd be lying if I said I'd ever heard of Ryan Russell before. They're a cute couple.

It has to be hard in the over charged testosterone world of football, even though they wear those tight shorts showing off their asses / who are they kidding but good for him

Good for him. The more people that come out as LGBTQ+ the better. Sports still seems to be one area noticeably lacking in out role models.

Literally, who?

Also, duh.

There are probably lots of guys who play sports and are gay but don't wanna come out keep it on the DL

I'm trying really hard to give a care.

Never heard of him, but well done to the chap.

He just killed his pro ball chances if he had any at all left. It will probably wind up like that guy a couple years ago at best, picked up and gone fast. It’s not like this guy is Mahomes or Rodgers.

^ I am sure that if it isn't about you....it is probably a real struggle for you to care. We understand.

But one good reason why this kind of thing is important in sports is that within a generation, nonsense like this at a European Football Match would become a thing of the past if more homo players came out and spoke up.

I actually side with the straights on this one. We don't need more coming out videos. Sure, if people want to produce coming out videos, have at it. But it really does not help our cause.

What is our cause? I believe it should be to be whatever we wanna be. Straight, gay, bi, metro, whatever and have no repercussions at all to our personal and professional lives.

As many straights have pointed out, straights don't have coming out ceremonies.

If gay players really want to help move society toward a more accepting place, the best way they can do this is live their normal lives. Normal as in date other guys in the open. Demonstrate to the world that it's only a big deal if homophobic people make it a big deal.

In other words, we need more players to exist between total closeted cases and in-your-face video type coming-out ceremonies. The world need to see that gay guys at the end of the day are just guys.

But thanks for the promotion.

"As many straights have pointed out, straights don't have coming out ceremonies."

You do realise that straights don't have to come out; that is why they don't make videos. You do also realise that your happy little homo/hetero life style is thanks to all those who came before shouting from the roof that they were gay.

/\ For many years, engagement, wedding, and birth announcements have been coming out 'ceremonies' for straight people. Complete with limos decked out with ribbons and 'Just Married' signs leading their straight pride parades.

Some people, it seems, get so used to having shit on their faces that they forget that it stinks.

"............engagement, wedding, and birth announcements have been coming out 'ceremonies' for straight people."

You really consider these events as the same as a 16 yr old boy finding the courage of coming out to his parents.

In none of these situations do the people have to justify their existence, feelings or needs. They are all part of the normal accepted part of straight life. They are definitely not a "coming out".

Exactly this.

Jesus Christ.

Straight people's lives are just a string of events celebrating their sexual identities.

From their first dates, through proms, talking to their friends about their girlfriends/boyfriends, the high school romances and break-ups, the guy talk in the gym or on the job right through to the big announcements in the papers for engagements etc. etc.etc.

The world need more coming out vids and expressions of commitment to encourage the closeted kids and adults that you can be here and be queer. And maybe someday it will be all so normalized that it won't matter. But right now in sports it does.

I suspect the reality is that it makes Aristo somehow uncomfortable to see two guys being that 'out' to the whole world. But as you point out...it isn't how we got to where we are today....without a lot of noise he wouldn't have the luxury of a legal marriage.

While I agree that there likely isn't a huge demand for coming out videos made by a couple of guys pursuing a life career in flipping properties or being landlords, if there is just one kid out there living in hiding who plays sports and sees this professional football guy's video and feels better about himself then it is worth more than money can buy.

The topic addressed was straight [pride] ceremonies. Nothing to do with levels of difficulty.

It appears that you'd rather be rude than think, today, so I'll leave you to it.
