Saddest Movie Ever!!

Beaches
The Notebook
Kramer Vs Kramer
All About Ah Long (Chinese Film)
Nangnak (Thai film)

The Blackwater Lightship
Marvin's Room
The Red Shoes
Playing By Heart

"Set It Off" gets me everytime, especially when that Brandy/Gladys Night songs plays...

And of course "The Color Purple"

"Sweet November" (1968) with Sandy Dennis.

I haven't seen it for almost 40 years, but I remember it being what they used to call a "three hanky movie".

Others, "Sophie's Choice", "A.I.", "My Dog Skip"

Philedelphia always makes me cry. Others are:

To Kill A Mockingbird
A Patch Of Blue
West Side Story
Saving Private Ryan
The Yearling
The Color Purple

Just to name a few.

No one has mentioned Ryan O'Neil and Ali McGraw in "Love Story", a very famous tear jerker.

Don't laugh, but...A Christmas Carol (ONLY the 1951 version, with Alistair Sim). The scene where Bob Cratchit comes back from Tiny Tim's grave gets me sobbing every single year.

hmm lemme see ....

Bent
Requiem for A Dream
The Green Mile
A Walk To Remember
The Pursuit of Happyness
Pay It Forward
Million Dollar Baby
The Color Purple
Titanic
& Hardball

Fried Green Tomatos

That is one of my favourite films. But I'd say it's more highly emotive than outright sad. It really tugs at the heartstrings.

A few of my sad movie mentions are:

Stand By Me. Watching River Phoenix walk away from his friend and disappearing while the narrator tells us about his grim fate was made all the more poignant for me knowing that the actor himself had died by then.

The Green Mile: John Coffey's death scene was very sad, but I cried more during poor Del's harrowing sabotaged execution.

About Schmidt: It's a testament to Jack Nicholson's skills as an actor that he was able to offer such an untypical performance considering the puckish flair that permeates most of his characters. His portrayal was wonderfully bittersweet.

The Boys in The Band: Another one of my favourite movies. Bitchiness, bitterness and savage emotional games are rife in this film (which stays true to its theatrical origins with regards to its scenic set-ups), in which a group of gay men congregate to celebrate a friend's birthday and proceed to claw away at each other; exposing their sad, lonely, tortured lives in the process. Mart Crowley's script is exquisite.

A River Runs Through It: OMG! Reeeeaally sad!

Water..........

Deepa Mehta is one of Canada's greatest.

and Sarala( the child actress) was amazing.

Requiem For A Dream
Baraká
Brokeback Mountain
Schindler's List
Millionh Dollar Baby
In America
The Elephant Man
Platoon
Its A Wonderful Life
To Kill a Mockingbird....etc

American History X was pretty sad.

My dad used to love that little Pepsi girl back in the late 1990s (the one who was in the movie Pauly about the parrot)-- he thought she was the cutest thing. She played a central character in Bicentennial Man and even though she grew up to be an old woman, when she died in that movie (with a grown up playing her older self), my dad started blubbering like crazy, hanky and everything. So for him, that was a sad movie.
