saddest song you ever heard?

Ares said:
Oh yeah, I forgot about that one. Good call. It's very sad.

Also "You Were Mine" by the Dixie Chicks.

Dont you just love the Dixie Chicks? I love them,

Dance with my father, Luther Vandross
The Dance , Garth Brooks
Top of the World , Dixie Chicks
Whiskey Lullaby by , I forget.

But I really cry with Dance with my Father, everytime i hear it, I just start bawling.

For some strange reason, Bobby Goldsboro's song, Honey, always makes me misty eyed when I hear it .....

See the tree, how big it's grown
But friend it hasn't been too long
It wasn't big
I laughed at her and she got mad
The first day that she planted it, was just a twig
Then the first snow came
And she ran out to brush the snow away
So it wouldn't die
Came runnin' in all excited
Slipped and almost hurt herself
And I laughed till I cried
She was always young at heart
Kinda dumb and kinda smart and I loved her so
And I surprised her with a puppy
Kept me up all Christmas Eve two years ago
And it would sure embarrass her
When I came in from workin' late
'Cause I would know
That she'd been sittin' there and cryin'
Over some sad and silly late, late show

And honey, I miss you
And I'm bein' good
And I'd love to be with you
If only I could

She wrecked the car and she was sad
And so afraid that I'd be mad
But what the heck
Though I pretended hard to be
Guess you could say she saw through me
And hugged my neck
I came home unexpectedly
And caught her cryin' needlessly
In the middle of the day
And it was in the early Spring
When flowers bloom and robins sing
She went away

And honey, I miss you
And I'm bein' good
And I'd love to be with you
If only I could

One day while I was not at home
While she was there and all alone
The angels came
Now all I have is memories of Honey
And I wake up nights and call her name
Now my life's an empty stage
Where Honey lived and Honey played
And love grew up
And a small cloud passes overhead
And cries down on the flower bed
That Honey loved

And see the tree how big it's grown
But friend it hasn't been too long
It wasn't big
And I laughed at her and she got mad
The first day that she planted it, was just a twig.

A song called "January/Black Dove" by Tori Amos on her excellent album "From the Choirgirl Hotel." It's the story of a girl who is the victim of incest and in the end gives birth to a daughter as a result. It's absolutely devastating. In 2001, I had the privilege of sitting in the front row at a Tori show where she performed that song and it brought a tear to my eye -- the only time that has ever happened to me.

Danny Boy

Oh, Danny Boy, the pipes... the pipes are calling,
From glen to glen and down the mountain side.
The summer's is gone and all the leaves are falling,
It's you, it's you must go and I must bide.

But come ye back, when summer's in the meadow,
and all the valley's hushed and white with snow.
It's I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow,
Oh, Danny Boy, Oh, Danny Boy, I love you so!

But when ye come, and all the flowers are dying
If I be dead, as dead I well may be.
Then come and find the place where I am lying,
And kneel and say an Ave there for me.

And I shall hear, though soft your tread above me,
And all my grave will warmer, sweeter be.
And you shall bend, and tell me that you love me,
And I shall sleep in peace until you come to me.

this song reminds me of my best friend who died in 99.

The Sound Of White - Missy Higgins

Like a freeze-dried rose, you will never be,
what you were, what you were to me in memory.
But if I listen to the dark,
you'll embrace me like a star,
envelope me, envelope me...
If things get real for me down here,
promise to take me to before you went away -
if only for a day.
If things get real for me down here,
promise to take me back to the tune
we played before you went away.

And if I listen to, the sound of white,
sometimes I hear your smile, and breathe your light.
Yeah if I listen to, the sound of white ..
You're my mystery. One mystery. My mystery. One mystery.

My silence solidifies,
until that hollow void erases you,
erases you so I can't feel at all.
But if I never feel again, at least that nothingness
will end the painful dream, of you and me...
If things get real for me down here, promise to take me to
before you went away, if only for a day.
If things get real for me down here, promise to take me back to
the tune we played before you went away.

And if I listen to, the sound of white
sometimes I hear your smile, and breathe your light.
Yeah if I listen to, the sound of white
sometimes I hear your smile, and breathe your light.
And if I listen to, the sound of white.

I knelt before some strangers face,
I'd never have the courage or belief to trust this place,
But I dropped my head, 'cos it felt like lead,
And I'm sure I felt your fingers through my hair...

And if I listen to, the sound of white sometimes
I hear your smile, and breathe your light.
Yeah if I listen to, the sound of white.
The sound of white,
The sound of white,
The sound of white.

Let's see...Alice by Howie Beck goes like this:

Alice says she was born into this world for you
But she said it to the last one too
Oh she says she's gonna come
But you don't know when
Now everybody knows her name
Just like everybody knew her name
When she was young

Now she knows what she does and so the joke's on you
Just close your eyes to hear what she can do
Oh she says she's gonna love
But you don't know when
Know everybody knows her name
Just like everybody knew her name
When she was young

Now everybody knows her name
Just like everybody knew her name
When she was young

When she says that you're the only one
She always says you're the only one
Alice knows she's gonna leave
But she won't say when

You know, "Landslide" makes me sad a lot, even though it's just about becoming a stronger person.

Blink 182-Adam's Song. For a while I used to listen to the song and never pay attention to the lyrics until one day I did and I realized what a sad song it was.

yeah, this is really sad.

My real name is Adam, and once my brother asked me to print out lyrics for this song (he always asked me to print out lyrics since I am a googlin' machine). Well, my mom found it and she thought I wrote it. Of course, fate would have it that she found it about three days after I came out to the family. Yeesh, that was some ordeal. #-o

Ooh, I just thought of another sad song! All by Myself, by Eric Carmen. Thats a good, but sad, song!

Ina Gadda da Vida by Iron Butterfly... my deaf friend has her own intepretation of the song and she portrayed the girl stuck buried in a coffin alive... I always loved to see her do her redentition amd the last time I observed her doing it was back in 1979 or 1980... good ole day...

Another sad song that comes to mind is... (name that tune...) Don't make it bad.... take a sad song... and make it better..... da da da...da....da da da... Hey Jude.... by Beatles

You know, I have to agree with anothe rposter here. I downloaded Free by Sarah Brightman not that long ago. It really is sad. But at the sametime, it's one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. I guess Sarah just has that knack for making something so sad, so touching at the same time.

If you have some time, go download it.

Hmmm... I'll probably think up a whole bunch more later. But for now, I've got two. At the moment one of my biggest concerns is "what the hell am I doing with my life?" and these songs reflect that.

"100 Years" by Five for Fighting. It might just be me - I'm not sure if this is supposed to be a sad song, but the opening never fails to send chills down my spine.

"Both Sides Now" (the new re-released version) by Joni Mitchell. This song is beautiful, and absolutely heartbreaking... which is why I need to stop listening to it over and over again! If you compare the new version with the original she recorded years ago, the contrast is absolutely remarkable. Where the old one sounded so youthful and optimistic, the new one sounds so reflective, and somewhat tired. It's just a reflection of her growing up, I suppose, but I find it rather moving.

There is a new song I just heard by the band "The Fray". Song is how to save a life.

I have a few that I have always considered sad because they make me think about situations & moments in my life...

1. I'm so lonesome I could cry
2. Alone Again Naturally
3. Stay Gold
4. 100 Years
5. Close to the Edge

She Thinks His Name Was John - Reba McEntire

It's about a one night stand that a woman has with a man and as a result is dying from aids years later. It's very sad.
