Two songs:

The Living Years - Mike + The Mechanics

"..... I wasn't there that morning
when my father passed away.
I didn't get to tell him
all the things I had to say.
I think I caught his spirit
later that same year.
I'm sure I heard his echo
in my baby's new-born tears.
I just wish I could have told him
In the living years..."

Chuvas de Verão

Podemos ser amigos simplesmente
Coisas do amor nunca mais
Amores do passado, no presente
Repetem velhos temas tão banais

Ressentimentos passam como o vento
São coisas de momento
São chuvas de verão
Trazer uma aflição dentro do peito
É dar vida a um defeito
Que se extingue com a razão

Estranha no meu peito
Estranha na minha alma
Agora eu tenho calma
Não te desejo mais
Podemos ser amigos simplesmente
Amigos, simplesmente, nada mais

So many of the songs from Les Miserables (best musical ever!) and Miss Saigon reduce me to tears every time I listen to them. My favourites ....

From Les Mis .....

I Dreamed a Dream
Come to me (Fantine's Death)
In My Life
On My Own
Bring Him Home
Empty Chairs at Empty Tables

From Miss Saigon .....

The Movie in My Mind
Why God Why?
I Still Believe
I'd Give My Life For You
Bui Doi

Father and Son .... Cat Stevens

Father

Its not time to make a change,
Just relax, take it easy.
Youre still young, thats your fault,
Theres so much you have to know.
Find a girl, settle down,
If you want you can marry.
Look at me, I am old, but Im happy.

I was once like you are now, and I know that its not easy,
To be calm when youve found something going on.
But take your time, think a lot,
Why, think of everything youve got.
For you will still be here tomorrow, but your dreams may not.

Son

How can I try to explain, when I do he turns away again.
Its always been the same, same old story.
From the moment I could talk I was ordered to listen.
Now theres a way and I know that I have to go away.
I know I have to go.

Father

Its not time to make a change,
Just sit down, take it slowly.
Youre still young, thats your fault,
Theres so much you have to go through.
Find a girl, settle down,
If you want you can marry.
Look at me, I am old, but Im happy.
(son-- away away away, I know I have to
Make this decision alone - no)

Son

All the times that I cried, keeping all the things I knew inside,
Its hard, but its harder to ignore it.
If they were right, Id agree, but its them you know not me.
Now theres a way and I know that I have to go away.
I know I have to go.
(father-- stay stay stay, why must you go and
Make this decision alone? )

Not a sad song as such, but Westlife's You Raise Me Up always makes me weepy when I hear it, 'cos it makes me think of my beloved, beautiful Mum, who died about five years ago. She was my rock, my inspiration, my confidante, my guide and my best friend ....

When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary;
When troubles come and my heart burdened be;
Then, I am still and wait here in the silence,
Until you come and sit awhile with me.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up... To more than I can be.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up... To more than I can be.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up... To more than I can be.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up... To more than I can be.

You raise me up... To more than I can be.

"Dance with My Father" Luther Vandross

Back when I was a child
before life removed all the innocence
My father would lift me high
and dance with my mother and me and then
Spin me around 'til I fell asleep
Then up the stairs he would carry me
And I knew for sure I was loved

If I could get another chance, another walk, another dance with him
I'd play a song that would never, ever end
How I'd love, love, love
To dance with my father again

When I and my mother would disagree
To get my way, I would run from her to him
He'd make me laugh just to comfort me
Then finally make me do just what my mama said
Later that night when I was asleep
He left a dollar under my sheet
Never dreamed that he would be gone from me

If I could steal one final glance, one final step, one final dance with him
I'd play a song that would never, ever end
'Cause I'd love, love, love
To dance with my father again

Sometimes I'd listen outside her door
And I'd hear how my mother cried for him
I pray for her even more than me
I pray for her even more than me

I know I'm praying for much too much
But could you send back the only man she loved
I know you don't do it usually
But dear Lord she's dying
To dance with my father again

Every night I fall asleep and this is all I ever dream....

I love you, Daddy.

The Birdie Song *crys*

Seriously, probably Somewhere Over The Rainbow (the Eva Cassidy version).

I also deal with tough times with sad music. It almost inspires me. I dont think that makes sense, but it works!

One of my all time favorite sad songs is Breakdown by Mariah Carey

Yes, exactly! I thought I was the only one until I heard Trisha Yearwood say something similar on Larry King Live.

I always listen to sad songs when I'm sad..I think it kind of helps me to fully feel the emotion so I can be done with it.

By the way...you're cute as f*ck!!

"Tomorrow Wendy" by Concrete Blonde... the last days of a woman with AIDS. Very emotional!!

"Tomorrow Wendy" by Concrete Blonde... the last days of a woman with AIDS. Very emotional!!

An extremely sad song about a woman who gets AIDS is Reba McEntire's "She Thinks His Name Was John"

Some lyrics:
Now each day is one day that's left in her life
She won't know love, have a marriage or sing lullabies
She lays all alone and cries herself to sleep
'Cause she let a stranger kill her hopes and her dreams

STRANGE FRUIT
Music and Lyrics Lewis Allan
Sung by Billie Holiday

Southern trees bear strange fruit,
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root,
Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze,
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees.

Pastoral scene of the gallant south,
The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth,
Scent of magnolias, sweet and fresh,
Then the sudden smell of burning flesh.

Here is fruit for the crows to pluck,
For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck,
For the sun to rot, for the trees to drop,
Here is a strange and bitter crop.

(Excuse me if it's been posted before)
