Sarah Palin Resigns July 26

I think all Democrats should hope and pray that Palin runs for president. The Evangelicals would be all hopeful and excited if they can get her the Republican Nomination .... only to have Obama crush her, overwhelmingly.

That would be a great defeat against the Church, and would perhaps be the straw that broke the camel's back with the Republicans that they need to go in a different direction. Basically, I see a defeat of Sarah Palin in 2012 as a defeat against the Evangelicals, and as a result, the Church would lose power and influence.

I think we should all hope that she runs.

I think you shouldn't gloat and underestimate her or the idiots among the electorate. You have no idea what the political landscape will be in 2012. You may well be eating those words in November of that year, assuming you have the integrity other "prophets" lack in not acknowledging failed prophecies.

Unless Obama royally Fucks up things by 2012, or a scandal breaks loose, which I don't forsee happening, he is a shoe-in for re-election.

Too much damage has been done to Sarah Palin for her to bounce back as a serious candidate. We are talking hours and hours of footage that has been stock-piled of Palin by the Media, that is just going to be replayed over and over again across CNN, MSNBC, and the rest of the Liberal networks.

Democrats won't vote for her. And she was no friend of the Independents.

Even her own Party doesn't support her, and I can guarantee a horde of internal struggles.

2010 will be an interesting indicator where the country is with the Democrat Party and if they are satisfied with Obama. At the moment, I maintain confidence that if she is going to run, she will be defeated in a landslide. However, we'll see if the tide changes or not.

As difficult as the embarrassment would be, as an Obama supporter and registered Democrat and an Alaska resident, I do hope she wins the Republican nomination and the country just royally snubs these self righteous fear mongering religious peddling hypocritical buffoons soundly. I could put up with her attempt.

Some of your teasing in private messages is funny but, all surely must know, but just to clear up any assumptions, I didn't vote for her and have been sadly and embarrassed and disappointed more than I even thought I would be. My hide is getting thicker though

This is pretty astonishing. Previous reports had stated that she would announce that she would not run for re-election in 2010.

She's not resigning. She isn't going to run for governor again.

Yes, she is resigning. She's handing over the reigns to the Lt. Governor at the annual Governor's picnic on July 26.

Her resignation pretty much killed her political career and any hopes of her ever being elected for a higher position. Why would she do it now that she has less than two years left before the end of her term? Time did say that her rambling speech seemed to be hinting that she was going to be "working for all Americans, not just Alaskans." So I'm thinking... maybe she plans to resume her career in media?

I don't think any scandal is involved. I think she is definitely planning to run for prez in 2012. She is probably stepping down to dedicate her time preparing for the long campaign.

A prelude to a Presidential run in 2012? Maybe - as Coachmn states it's only speculation at this point. Still, I find the timing odd. Why make such an announcement on a Friday afternoon of a major holiday weekend? And, even if she is planning a run in 2012, why step down as Governor so early?

In any event, I suggest the following campaign slogan:

Palin 2012 - Vote for the Quitter!

Yeah, I can see how the guys she'll be running against in the primaries will be using that to great effect.

Well, you gotta give Palin some credit.
She blasted Ted Stevens and encouraged him to resign, and now she's doing the same thing, before the news hits.
She's still a hypocrite for criticizing Stevens even when she'd done the exact same thing, but at least she's leaving office before somebody can call for her resignation.

Just months before Palin left city hall to campaign for governor, she awarded a contract to SBS to help build the $13 million Wasilla Sports Complex.

This makes me wonder if Mr. Blumenthal has his other facts straight. Ms. Palin did not leave Wasilla's City Hall “to campaign for governor.” She was mayor of Wasilla from 1996 to 2002. She then ran an unsuccessful campaign for lieutenant governor. In 2003 she was appointed Chairwoman of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. She did not win the Republican Primary Election for governor until 2006.

When I click on the dailybeast.com link you have provided opinterph, I find:

This makes me wonder if Mr. Blumenthal simply corrected a minor factual error, as many writers must do on occasion.

Perhaps he had more than 15 minutes to do so. An advantage posters on JUB do not have.

In any event, I see no reason why this "typo" would be sufficient grounds to question the straightness of Mr. Blumenthal's other facts.
