I lived and worked in Jeddah for some months in 2005. For the most part the article is entirely true. The "gay heaven" reference is far from accurate, however. Saudia Arabia is one of the most intolerant countries in the world when it comes
to homosexuality even though they are all at it.
They also apart from the normal police have the Religious Police and believe me
when i say that they make the Gestapo almost appear normal and yes i am talking from personal experiences.
One of my friends who qualified as a doctor at the same time as me was tempted
by the huge amount of money he could get there for just a 12 month contract.
We all tryed to talk him out of it because he is gay and we all knew him well
enough to know that he could not abstain from a bit of dick for 12mths.
Also Saudi Arabia is such a new country 1947 (i think) and it is a dictatorship
no matter what anyone says but the west Kow-tow to them because of yep you
guessed it tha black gold,remember guys 50yrs ago there way of life had not changed much in a millenium.
Anyway as sure as god makes little-green apples our friend was caught by the
religious police,the only thing that saved him from being stoned to death was the
fact that he was a Foreign national and lots and lots of Diplomatic pressure from
the British Government he recieved 150 strokes with a bamboo cane and deported
Fellas if you are gay please dont put yourself at risk by even thinking about
visiting such a barbaric place.
