Ebola is one of many hemorrhagic viruses that plague Africa. I used to work in Sierra Leone doing medical relief work and a friend of mine died there of a similar virus called Lassa Fever.
These infections are no joke but remember this(the US or any other developed country) is not a poor African country and there are ways of preventing it from getting out of control here.
I do believe it will get worse in Africa however. Viruses can mutate quickly - I don't think the virus is the same now as it was a few years ago and it will probably change again.
The posting stating that we are plagued by antibiotic resistant organisms is right on - if you live in a western country this poses a much greater risk to you at present time than Ebola.
