School Suspends Teacher After Gay Marriage Facebook Comment

Teacher Who Said Gay Marriage Made Him Almost Throw Up Back In Class

This is outstanding news. I'm so happy. And, of course, I was right all along.

"...and the ACLU issued a statement supporting Buell’s right to make the remarks, though cautioned they did not agree with them."

So, even the ACLU supports this man's rights.

So fucking hypocritical.

Someone yapping about free speech but has no hesitation running off to the hall monitor to get comments they don't like excised from a thread.

This teacher broke the COC.

The ACLU would defend my right to have made the comments I did about you, but they still wouldn't have stopped me being rewarded with infraction points for telling you exactly what I think of this incarnation.

Pretty fucking sad if you ask us.

Thank God the ACLU aren't the final arbiters on this.

And pretty fucking sad that you keep defending a person in a position of trust who demeans and marginalizes the children under his care and guidance.

I've only been back a week and your shtick is already boring.

Well, honey, go away and come back in another three weeks and report back to me on your results. I'd just be dying to hear about it.

Ta ta!

His syllabus also offered this warning to students: "I teach God's truth, I make very few compromises. If you believe you may have a problem with that, get your schedule changed, 'cause I ain't changing!" On a separate document, he also said the classroom was his "mission field."

So which amendment does he want to put more weight on? The right to free speech or the Separation of church and state?

I signed.

On one hand, I don't think this guy did anything illegal in terms of the whole gay thing, nor did he violate the "ethics" part of the contract any more than that pornstar teacher did. So I'm glad the system works and he wasn't punished for something that he was allowed to do.

On the other hand, all the religion stuff put blatantly in the syllabus and classroom are pretty obviously religiously biased, which is not acceptable in a public school. I hope he just resigns or something, because he sounds like a terrible person... but in terms of his suspension, I have mixed feelings.

He should be required to remove the religious stuff from his syllabus, or lose his job.
