Scissor Sisters

I hate them. So bloody camp.

Yeah....

But, it's *fabulous* camp.

Judging from their latest photos, they have a LOT more money behind
them now, (thanks, Elton) and that new 'I don't feel like dancin' single is
catchy as hell.

Plus, it took major *Balls* to cover a Pink Floyd tune, and disco-fy
it at that, and some how make it work...

(CNN's Anderson Cooper listed that one as his most played tune on his Ipod, as
if we had any ligering doubts about him.... ;) )

Based solely on who was talking about Scissor Sisters, I just assumed that I would hate them. I was surprised how attractive the lead singer (Jake Shears) is, I just ran across video of him putting on pants with a lot of people watching, for some reason http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xb79v_jakeshearschanging

Here are two of their videos at dailymotion

I don't feel like dancing http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xb0we_scissor-sisters-i-dont-feel-like-da

Filthy Gorgeous http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xbout_scissor-sisters-filthy-gorgeous

They are great.

I think they're kinda amusing, but WAY over rated.

that being said... it's nice to see a gay band actually be gay and out and still sell records.

And has no one commented on the Irony that "I don't feel like dancing" is dangerously close to plagerism of Leo Sayer's 1978 hit "You make me feel like dancin'"?

cute video, though.

Hmm...

A Leo Sayer reference....

How the HELL old R.....

Damn.

Now that you mention it, it *does* kinda sound like that song.

No matter.... It's clear they've got Elton's money behind them now,
(Thanks to Jake being 'in front' of Elton on more than one occasion...
But, I digress..)

No matter...it's a good vid and a catchy song.

Will in 'break thru' in the states ?

Ehh...prolly not....

Shame.

are you saying Elton John is backing Scissor Sisters? This Blunt guy (Beautiful) was on Oprah last week and he made some reference to touring with Elton and singing at Elton John's wedding.

With respect to SS breaking through in North America, North America is no longer the promised land. Abba and Julio Eglesias were world-wide superstars and virtually unknown in North America.

Never underestimate the power of a Pretty Boy with swivel hips (and who is willing to put out)

Yeah, I never really "got" them before but I like this new single and i'm even thinking about buying their album. Filthy/gorgeous is a great song of theirs too and they're really huge here in the UK. I guess us guys have always liked our popstars a bit on the camp side. ..|

I found out they're touring in the UK but the tickets sold so quickly I can't go. Typical.

Don't look to North America for breakthrough musical artists who will last longer than one album. You have to remember, that Robbie Williams and Kylie Minogue are never going to be huge hits here but both have sold out concerts elsewhere. (which is a shame because I really REALLY would love to see Robbie in concert without having to go overseas....)
I love the Scissor Sisters especially because they are so camp. It's the theatrics like old Bowie and Elton John.

Abba and Julio Eglesias were world-wide superstars and virtually unknown in North America.

Are you high?

ABBA is STILL one of the biggest selling bands in North America and thye broke up 25 years ago. That ABBA Gold album sells about 2 million copies a year in North America and they had like 10 top ten hits here.

and "Unknown" band that's big in the rest of the world would be like Swing Out Sister or Modern Talking.

You are spot on there Soilwork - everytime I have heard their new track I find myself singing the Leo Sayer later in the day.

The Scissor Sisters are excellent - and forgetting Leo for a moment I love the new single, and am eagerly awaiting the release of "Ta-Dah" their new CD scheduled for release in the U.K on 18th September.

I would love to see them "live" and would highly recommend their DVD "We are Scissors Sisters and so are you" which features a full live concert and some of their promo videos.

Jake is one sexy little performer(!)

as for them ever being as big as ABBA - no chance[-X

I'm not sure what Scissors Sisters is composed of but, Jake Shears is going to be a superstar, you can see that now from here.

As I recall, Helen Reddy's husband was originally ABBA's US agent and the guy in charge of INTRODUCING ABBA to the American audience. Early in Abba's career, they were already superstars everywhere EXCEPT in the US. I am actually old enough to remember a guy, I think it was Reddy's husband, give an interview on tv saying he represented ABBA and he wanted to introduce them to the US, they were already global stars at the time (seriously, I think most people know that ABBA was world famous before they were even know in the US).

As for Julio Eglesias, I don't think most Americans even heard of him until he did a duet for Frank Sanatra. Julio was already the biggest selling male singer in the world at that time.

I really think that Martin Rolinski of BWO has what it takes to be the new ABBA in Europe and Asia. But, I think he might have a difficult time being taken serious by US Music critics. Fortunately, no one appears to be listening to movie and music cirtics anymore. http://justusboys.com/forum/showthread.php?t=115288

The World Music Awards are always an eye opener for me because there is always some artist or group that shows up with billions in sales outside of the US that I've never heard of. I think most Black music and movie stars all have far more sales outside of the US than in the US. Going the the American Press, you would think that the world actually gives a shit about Barbra Streisand.

How cute is Del. (The guitarist)

are you saying Elton John is backing Scissor Sisters?

Well, he appears on at least two of the tracks on the new CD, and plays
piano on at least a couple of others, as well.

For two years at least Elton has listed Scissor Sisters has one of his fav
new bands... So, I can only assume anything he attaches his name to will
receive the highest of production standards, (as evidenced by the video...
the more you watch it, the more complex it appears.)

I just wish Jake would 'tune down' that peroxide in his hair a tad.

But still, it's by far the catchiest thing I've heard all year.

It's just 'fun', and sometimes that hard to come by.

I thinkt hey're fun. Their first albume was campy and it rocked in its own way...all the songs are sad somehow. So I'm game for their new album.
