Second Presidential Debate - Discussion

Seems like more and more people on the Hannity Forum are admitting that it's over.

The funny thing is that they are saying that Romney would have made the better candidate.

I don't think any Republican truly had a chance in the General Election, thanks to Bush.

Edit:

CBS Poll just released immediately following the debate:

Who won the debate?

Obama: 39%
McCain: 27%
Tie: 34%

Midnight ? is that like saying Hillary woulda been a better candidate ?

Ouch!

I didn't watch it, but Keith Olberman is reporting that McCain referred to Obama as 'that one'.

Yep.

McCain was referencing Senator Obama voting for a bill a couple years back that had pork stuck in it, that gave a tax break for the oil companies.

He said, "I voted against the bill. You know who voted for it? That one." And he pointed over to Obama.

"That one" comment is going to hurt McCain and dominate the post-debate discussion.

I'm on the Hannity Forums, and most of them know it's over and are admitting it. You should see it on there. They are pretty much demoralized.

It's looking good, gentlemen.

Good debate. Though I can't make up my mind if I like the townhall format better. Obama won this one handily. McCain was rambling, repetitive, and spoke in generalities more often than not, though he had his lucid moments (particularly close to the end of the debate). There were times when I wasn't clear just what he was talking about. In contrast, Obama was cool, measured, confident, and substantive. I like how he manages to be assertive without coming off as aggressive.

Most interesting was watching the meet and greet post debate (if you were watching C-Span as I did). The McCain's left after only a few minutes and the Obama's were there for nearly 20mins shaking hands and talking with the citizens. It leaves no question as to who was really connecting with the voters.

I have never seen a campaign wherein so much went so wrong so quickly.

All that's left is for McCain to have a stroke in public.

I noticed that last part, as well. McCain and his wife left almost instantly. They know it's over.

What was he thinking with the whole mortgage thing? Was he trying to be a “maverick,” because he just smooth pissed off about everyone in his own damn party.

Yep. That was one thing I noticed on the Hannity Forum. They are pissed he talked about the Government buying up more mortgages.
Wow.. I should have bought a bigger house. McCain want to buy more moragages? I heard on fox that it may be another 300 billion? This is above the already 1 trillion we are on the hook for ($300 previous bailouts and the $700 bil.). What is he thinking. Why propose something like that? I didn't want the 700 bil we needed to provide. Someone please help me understand.

McCain talked about taxpayers buying up houses that were worth less in value than was indicated in the mortgage. Anybody have any detals? That means the government will probably be the biggest landlord in the country. So, if someone bought a house for $500k, and the house is now worth $300k, the vendor keeps the $200k profit and we give $200k to the purchaser. Aren't we nice...or fools.
If I paid $25K for a stock last year, and it is now worth $10K, doesn't the government owe me $15K? Certainly that is the moral equivalent.

Overall a boring debate, should have played a drinking game during this one. Obama showed again he is presidential and people will be even more comfortable with him. What was McCain thinking by saying "that one" no matter how you spin it, its not good. Obama gets a slight edge on this debate but not by much, this gives him a win. McCain gets one more shot next week. All Obama has to do is not make any big mistakes.

This debate is a disaster for McCain, not because he "lost," but because he evidently forgot he was a Republican there for awhile.

That one statement (about the mortgages) is going to cost him voters - and here's the kicker, not undecided voters, he just lost voters from his own damn base. He just resurrected every reason they had for hating him in the first place.

Someone in his campaign needs to get a clue; does he not run these things by anyone at all?

Wasn't this what Biden was talking about in regards to people changing the principal of their mortgage. Didn't McCain say he wants to adjust the mortgage to the current home value?

lol I like this post from the hannity forums.

Lets hope the money is so dry they can't enact any new programs. Other than that, I'll hide my guns until we retake either the Congress or the Presidency.

Brokaw did a good job because he set the stage for the candidates to reveal more about themselves.

Both these candidates are at best a disappointment and at worst will be a disaster.

In the middle of an economic crisis, after supporting an $800 Billion bailout of Wall Street that even they admit isn't a good plan, neither of them has an economic plan or even a hint of one, and neither has even a short list for Treasury Secretary.

And health care is not a right, it's a responsibility. Excellent question. The responses were revealing.
