Seinfelds Kramer Unleashes Racial Slurs

I'm not condoning or condemning what he did. But why is it wrong for a comedian to make racial or religious jokes but still OK for them to make gay jokes?

1. He wasn't joking.
2. To my knowledge I haven't heard comics saying anything about how a gay audience member should be tied to a fence and pistol whipped like Matthew Shepherd and furiously yelled faggot at them over and over and over.

Hopefully there'll be a great Law & Order episode made out of this one too!

I still love Jerry and "Seinfeld," and think his efforts on Letterman were commendable.

I've never thought Jerry or his show were all that funny, but I feel so bad for him right now. This could seriously jeopardize the future saleability of "Seinfeld" and I'd imagine MR's former co-stars aren't very happy with him right now.

I haven't seen the entire performance, but I've seen enough clips of it that I'm a little freaked out by it (and I wasn't even the target). That was seriously scary, and his body language during his apology wasn't any better. If any of you still have the apology, try watching it with the sound off. He looks thisclose to punching someone out. [-X

SEINFELD IS THE BEST SHOW EVER!!!!!!

Kramer is the besT!!!!

And then the black guy retaliates with a racial slur. How many times do you think that same guy used the word nigger that same day? Hmmm... I wonder... It's racist to allow only one group of people a word. If the black community really wants to get this out of society, they need to stop perpetuating it themselves.
I am not condoning either "Kramer" or the heckler's action, it is just my thought on the word "nigger" being so offensive.

You can't be serious. Blacks use that word for one reason and one reason only and that is to make it their own. I will always hate the word, but if I'm going to hear it....his skin better be BLACK!!

How anyone can still be a fan of Kramer is very scary. As I've stated in many threads... a person who isn't racist would have NEVER said those things on stage. He went beyond hate....talking about "50 years ago you would be hanging from a tree, you don't say that to a white man, and etc" Scary stuff!!

Someone who makes excuses for a racist needs to seriously evaluate some things.

You're kidding, right? You mean you don't understand the theory of reappropriating the symbols of our oppressors? Reclaiming words and stereotypes in an effort to neutralize it. Do I as a black person agree with using the word? No, I think it should be abolished: http://www.abolishthenword.com for the self same viewpoint you just expressed. An ignorant person who doesn't understand a black person's use of the word will say exactly that, and another white person will use that same viewpoint to justify their use of the word. It's a just a big swirling eddy of trouble that helps to undermine the fight for civil rights, in my opinion, so I'd rather black people didn't use the word at all. Oh, and in regard to your example of how many times did that same guy use the word that same day? Well, I will answer that with my own example. How many times have you said, "Ugh, my mother's such a bitch!" or "Ugh! I could just kill my father for doing such and such!" and know that you didn't mean it. But if someone who doesn't share that bond/relationship with your mother or father were to say the same things about them angrily and directly to your face, you'd view it as an attack or as a threat. It doesn't matter if you said the same things. You KNOW you didn't say those things with vicious intent in your heart -- but there's no way of knowing if someone off the street didn't, either. White people just HAVE to accept, thanks to the history of blacks and whites in this country, there are just some words that are fighting words. That's it. End of story. Stop trying to justify the use of a word and excuse the use of a word that another group of people find offensive to the very core. I just don't understand the need to justify, rationalize, excuse or defend this type of behavior.

Some people are just intentionally incendiary and it's just better for them to say what they really want to say, which is: "I like using racial slurs because I like getting a reaction out of the people who get offended by them, and I wish these groups would just shut up and take it because I don't want to get in trouble or bastardized because of it. Someone's made me feel inferior at one point in my life, or they still do to this day, and they don't get in trouble for it. So why should I when I do it to someone else to make me feel better for the way I've been treated?"

OK, don't throw all Americans together we didn't all vote for Bush! I sure as hell didn't, so don't blame me.

Isn't he Jewish? Doesn't he already know what's it's like to be put down and ridiculed for who you are? Shame on him.

People always say that it's the alcohol (mel gibson) or the anger or heckler or something else that triggers an otherwise non-racist person to get racist, but the way I see it, it has to be in you already for you to express that kind of feeling publicly. If you're not a racist, you can't just all of the sudden become a racist in one second and start yelling "niggas" to an audience and say something like "that's what you get when you interrupt a white man."

I am not condoning either "Kramer" or the heckler's action, it is just my thought on the word "nigger" being so offensive.

The word was never positive, though surely as someone gay you understand that sometimes, members of certain groups use words amongst themselves that are used as slurs against them. Women call each other bitches, some gays call each other fags and SOME blacks call each other nigga. You should understand that as a gay person, it's not acceptable if, out of anger, a man calls a woman a bitch, a straight person (or one who is percieved to be straight) calls a gay man a faggot and anyone who's not black calls someone a nigger. There is also the intent of the word's usage. When black people use the word amongst each other, they are not trying to put down their people and if there is a black person who is attempting to do that, he will be ostracized.

It is unfair to hold black people accountable for Michael Richard's racism. Michael isn't a child who doesn't know any better. At his old age, he knows better than a lot of people the racial tensions and the history of the word. Those words flew so easily out of his mouth when race wasn't a factor in what took place before his tirade. I am a black person who does not condone the use of the word, but I can't stop anyone else -- black, racist or not -- from using the word. Do you think black people started calling themselves the word? There have been times that black people have casually referred to me as such and I may or may not have told them not to refer to me as that, depending on the situation. At the end of the day, I knew that those black people did not intend to hurt me. Michael Richards's intent was to insult, belittle, demean, disparage and to hurt those people. He's a disgusting human being and your excuses are following suit...

the video was hilarious!!!... i was sooooo embarraaaaaaassssseeeedddd not for using the word... but for the reaction of the people ooo-ing, gasping and lauging..
plus the dude doing a drama "that was tottaly uncalledfor"... all he need to do was jump on him a slap the hell out of him.

plus the comment "50 years ago you would be hanging from a tree"(in the interview of the drama dude he quote that from kramer) that was F#&%^*^%#ING HAAAAARSH as hell... i would not think it twice on stabing him..

but it was hillarious no matter what you say!!! kramer face was priceless

First of all I think his apology on Letterman was half-assed and forced by Jerry Seinfeld!!! And how the fuck can you say your not a racist when those kind of things come out of your mouth..and so many times!! As a person who is part black..I seriously hope someone puts a fucking bullet in his head and then..maybe I might consider forgiving him! I wish nothing but a painful horrible death for him and anyone like him!

Same thing goes for Mel Gibson..altho he was at least smart enough not to get taped!!!!

dude, serousily how awesome are you

*bows to your verbal prowess*

That's a bit severe. I agree his apology was probably less than sincere, and I think the forseeable future will be a good punishment. Consider. . .

His career is over. No TV or movie exec is going to want to touch him after this. He'll be lucky to get a job at McDonald's. Although he'll probably be able to do stand-up at KKK rallies.

His past work will be looked on unfavorably. I've never really wanted to see his work; doubly so now. Sales of the Seinfeld DVDs will decline, meaning less residuals for him, his co-stars, and the studio. Lawsuits over that could result.

This was no slip of the tongue or misunderstanding that he can apologize for and move on. This was a full on tirade. He will forever more be a pariah in any civilized circles.

Hopefully, the one positive thing to come of this will be that he learns that racism is a bad thing that has consequences for everyone.

I dont think hes a racist. He said something he didnt mean. And i think it is so dumb that the guys he was yelling at want MONEY. i mean seriously all he said was words
All I have to say is...
Stop trying to justify the use of a word and excuse the use of a word that another group of people find offensive to the very core. I just don't understand the need to justify, rationalize, excuse or defend this type of behavior.

I rest my case.
