I do not use it that often, I am always out of home and when I need to talk to someone I use my cell.
My Internet is cable.
And besides it is getting very expensive and useless.
 
More and more people are doing it. I'll be doing it soon. Right now I have a low-usage rate on my home phone. All my calls are forwarded to my cell. And another thing that many people don't realize is that the phone company is required to let you use your old landline number with your cell if you request (at least in the U.S.)
 
It's been six or seven years since I had a phone in the home.

My cell works just fine more me, and there are far fewer telemarketing calls....

^^^^^^ Guys, I did that three months ago. And for the reasons stated by Hunky. A word of caution however, especially if you have the same provider for your land line and cell. Be careful of the fine prints on your cell contract. In my case I have a three year contract with a cancellation that is $20 per month with remaining months on the cell. It would cost be 340$ to change cell phone or contract.

I cancelled my home phone , then I saw the provider Rogers.com, start charging me for incoming voicemail, night messages etc etc. My cell costs were $47.89 per month up until I cancelled the landline. Now I average between $85 am $105 per month in the last three months. I have to go in tomorrow again and find out what the hell they came up with this month to increase the costs. I had to change the automated payment because charges were paid directly out of my bank account and that makes it hard to discuss and have increases cancelled. Most cell contracts, in Canada anyways, have a lot less perks than landlines where only long distances could be add on. Read your contracts very well to ensure you're not stepping into cowpies, like I am.

If you can, the perfect solution is to cancel a landline provider and go with the best cellphone contract you can find. Of course you may not be able to keep the home phone number as I did.

Try Vonage, the internet phone. The upside of it I carry my Vonage "adaptor box" with me plug into broadband internet and it works. I am currently in Singapore plug it in and it thinks I am in Florida. All my calls to and from US are free, my friends call my local number it gets me here and free to all.
BTW a bit cheaper than the phone company but has many more perks.
 
^^^ I was hoping Vonage would not surface. That was my choice, you just wait. Three more years with my stupid provider and it's Vonage for me. Good for you though.
 
Mine has been gone for eight years and I never missed it. Someone is going to have fun when I sell my house and the buyer discovers that the phone has never been hooked up there.
 
I don't even have a cellphone. It's just voicemail for me, and then e-mail. I hate using the phone. Having worked at a call centre for about a year and a half I became even more scared of the telephone. I don't think it's all that necessary. I tend to write long letters to my friends anyways, and then we send each other e-mails.
 
I have Vonage. It's great! I also have a cell phone. I can normally do with just a cell phone (like I did in NYC) but because my Vonage line serves a different purpose, I must have both. But for all the functionality, $24.95/mo is better than $70/mo for a traditional landline!
 
Just remember, if you cancel your land line phones...when using your cell phone make sure you identify where you are including address and city when calling 911. Not every state has the capability to get an exact location and many states when you dial 911 on a cell, it will go directly to the State Police, not your local 911.

Emergency services and cell phone providers do have the capability now in many areas to pinpoint the nearest cell tower location...but it is not everywhere. Most people forget about 911 until they have to actually use it. Also most local providers of land line service, even if you cancel it, may need to still provide you 911 service, so before you cancel just make sure...if they do...leave a hard wired phone plugged in in your home in case...that way if you do need 911 at your house, your address will be readable at 911.

Also don't forget if you can't get a signal when you really need it (911), it can be a real bitch.
 
it's been at least 5 years since i gave up my land line.

my cell phone is more than enough.
 
Its a lot more convienent by disconnecting your home phone, and just using a cell, i do it, and its far less expensive!, Disconnect that shit!!!
 
I gave up the landline 3 years ago and I don't miss it at all. My friends and family always called my cell phone first anyways, and I normally have it in my pocket so I always used it to make a call. I also have free long distance which I never wanted to pay for on the landline.
 
I have to have a home phone to get DSL :rolleyes: Comcast hasn't kept up with the population boom around here so their services suck a big one.
 
I have a cellphone but im not really into it it just sits on the table. People call me at night when im sleeping i think its an alarm clock and turn it off.


I prefer the land line because if an emergency happens its easy to pick up a phone and call whoever. And the cellphone keeps breaking up and stuff
 
I might get rid of mine. The only person who ever calls me on it is my mother so that would be the first good point to getting rid of it. The second is those damn telemarketers. I know they're earing a living but I wish they'd earn it annoying some other poor sap. Maybe they should only be allowed to call really old people because they can talk about nothing for hours too and could also use the company.
