Seriously considering joing the navy

I don't plan on being open with it. I mean, I am not gonna lie and be all "yeah she is smokin, I would fuck her!!" and all that bullshit. I will have a convo about girls with guys, but I do that right now and I am fully out. (confuses my straight friends sometimes lol)

And thanks for thinking of that. I doubt that they will look on a gay porn site like this, but if someone wanted to be malicious towards me, that would be a good way to.

Of course they look at Gay sights like this. The snooping is relentless. That's why so many thousands of gays and lesbians have been discharged over the years. And the informing and snitching are constant.

Well I go to a recruiters office tomorrow. I am all types of scared. You have no idea.

My son leaves for basic training and then OCS followed by additional work; he happens to speak Arabic and Chinese and just completed his degree in International Business.....

The advice you are getting is very good; make sure whatever they tell you is put into writing. The recruiters change daily and you have no recourse once you've gotten in except to finish and get out.

As for being gay....it is still "don't ask and don't tell." A good friend of mine, who is on this site, went into the navy and when I asked how he completed his time so quickly said, "Remember don't ask, don't tell? Well I told!" He did get an honorable discharge.

Another good friend was a commissioned officer. He thought he had finished his time and came out to all of his unit (he was a captain). Well, he got called back for duty in Afghanistan. He told his commander what he had done, was totally open and was told, "we still need you one more year." I told him he should have worn his pink boa!

I even dated a guy who was on Air Force One.....met him in a gay bar. Totally difficult because he could show no affection or contact when we were in public. He could go to gay bars; his excuse was he was picking up women if seen!

As for repeal of DADT....don't see it happening soon.....

Apollo, I'm glad you are enjoying Carrier. It was such a good series, that after watching I wanted to join but at 38, my time has passed.

They do briefly discuss being homosexual in the military for about 3 minutes of the 10 hour series! Don't blink or you'll miss it.
Yeah it was really short. I am assuming from some things said in the interview it was 2005 when this was filmed.

I kinda wish it was filmed like last year. Cause that 3 minutes would so be an entire hour or something.

I was at a party last Fri, and one of my marine buddies (who is very, very hot) could not keep his hands off me. He kept coming up behind me and grabbing my junk, feeling up my chest, and kissing on me. Mind you we're surrounded by other marines.

One of them finally said, "dude, you're kinda creeping me out" but it wasn't really very homophobic, my buddy was being super super grabby and full on with the PDA. Aother buddy asked him if he was gay and he flat out admitted that he was bi. I'd be fucking him right now if he wasn't married...but homie don't play that. He and his wife don't get along at all though and if they ever spilt up, I am ALL OVER that!!

Point being, the military is not nearly as homophobic as some would have you believe. Being Tina Twinkleoes is prolly frowned upon, but you'd be shocked at how open-minded guys are these days.

So I went to the Navy recruiter this morning (sorry CGHJ) and talked to the guy. I took the practice ASVAB and got a 64 (math without a calculator should be banned!) and I take the full ASVAB this evening. I am guessing from there I talk about possible careers and a future with the Navy.

I just want to say thank you for all the info and support you guys have given. I will keep y'all up to date on what happens with me and the Navy recruitment.

So my recruiter picked me up, and we went down there. The computers were down for new takers of the ASVAB to take the test so we had to leave. She did a fat test on me to see if I was eligible, and I am. YAY

She gave me some stuff to fill out, and tomorrow I go back to take the ASVAB and Wednesday I should be doing the MEPS.

So I went to the Navy recruiter this morning (sorry CGHJ)

LOL :D Good luck and keep us posted!

Oh and make sure your basic won't last through wintertime...one of the (two) training centers is on the Great Lakes (or was back in the day) and it's fucking cold there in winter.

Ask what you need to get on your ASVAB to get a guaranteed job or at least a general idea. In my day it was an 80, and that can make the difference between getting a good job or sniffing gas as a refueler all day. If you don't have a guarantee they'll put you wherever they need a body. It's worth studying and retesting on the ASVAB for. Your recruiter as a quota she has to meet so she'll tell you there's no guarantee and you need to sign up NOW, but fuck her, this is the next 4 years of your life and you can wait a minute.

When you get to basic, never volunteer for anything, and never let them know you're good at anything, even if you're proud of yourself for being able to do it. I ignored this advice when I went in and it bit me right on the ass.

^My recruiter said I might be good at the nuclear reactor something or other, I know it has something to do with the nuclear engine and stuff.

I think the only training place is on the great lakes. So it would suck to get the wintertime basic. But I like the cold sooo yeah lol

And I am def not gonna take a grunt work job. I would die doing something nasty.

Seriously make sure you get it IN WRITING I'm not kidding. Recruiters will tell you anything to get you to sign. I knew a bunch of guys in basic thought they'd be doing one thing and ended up in the kitchen or as fuelers (sniffing gas all day). I'm not kidding, GET IT IN WRITING!!!!!

If she tells you they can't guarantee you a job, ask her what it takes to get a guaranteed job. I met all kinds of guys who were flat out told that there was no such thing, and were always shocked when I told them I had one. Be informed, this is your life!! It can be a great one, the military was the best thing I ever did and it will be for you too...if you take the time to make sure that you're going in on YOUR terms, not theirs. You are in control, don't accept what the recruiter says at face-value, the info is all out there just make sure you are knowledgeable.

Also, word of warning...anything around the reactor or Intelligence or a handful of other fields will require a TOP SECRET security clearance, in which G-Men will visit your neighbors, your friends, roomates, and everyone you've ever known to ask them questions about you. I had to turn down several jobs they wanted me to take because I didn't want them finding out about stuff I'd done. Don't think they won't find out because they will. These fuckers are unbelievably thorough.

A plain old SECRET security clearance on the other had only looks at your public record. I had no tickets and no arrests and in general no record (although it was more a matter of having not gotten caught) so I passed that no problem.

Are there any jobs where there are bonuses attached that you might enjoy? Nuclear reactor? On a boat or sub? Would you like to live on a sub?

Side note question- Why does everyone on this site who wants to join the military seemingly choose AF or Navy? Not bad choices, but I'm wondering how many Army or USMC vets there are on this site.

Good luck on the ASVAB.

If you do bad you can still retake it I believe. I got a 49 the first time, studied really hard and got a 70 on my retest.

I got a 75 on my ASVAB. I went for MEPS today and got processed, and went through all that. That was exciting, and soooooo tiring. Some of the men there were just so hot, and it was fun come physical time with us in our underwear only. Some of them had great bodies.

There were only like 8 Navy recruits, and about the same amount of Air Force recruits, and there were no male jobs open for Navy. The recruiters were calling PRIDE back and forth seeing if something was open and there was nothing but submarine work, and I didn't really want to go there.

They ended up calling PRIDE once more, and they told them straight up that there were no open Male navy jobs at the moment.

The reason is because at the 1st of every month they reevaluate all jobs in the Navy and then open up what they are allowed to sell to us. So I have to go back on the 13th because the Commodore is coming next week, and there should be lots of good jobs open.

Only one guy got a Navy job today. It was crazy insane. On a high note, I could get Air Traffic Controller. I have no depth perception though, so no aviation sadly.

I got a 70. A 75 is very good.

I need a waiver to enlist so the process is a lot longer for me. Good luck.

Thanks for the story though. Truly sad that he was killed in this way, there is just no honor in it.

I hope the military still compensates his mother and family, and justice is served.

OH

MY

GOD!

What and absolutely tiring day I had today. The Navy didn't put through any jobs last week as they tried to find jobs to give to people. So today it was going to be a long day.

And boy was it long. All I had to do was get a job today. Didn't get one until 3:30 pm. We started at 4 in the morning.

I waited literally all day to just get a job, get sworn in, etc. I met some cool people, and all we did was talk and shoot the breeze.

Turns out, it took so long for me because they thought I needed to go through the physical again. So they were waiting all day for me to finish the physical. Luckily my recruiter figured out the problem, and they got me a job before they left for the day.

I am a Medical Corpsmen. Which is pretty much a nurse in the Navy. It was a job just to get me in, I plan to change it to something else if I can tomorrow or so.

I might go into the Nuke program. The test for that is going to be hard, but hey.

I might stay in the Medical Corpman field. Depends on what I can get, and when I would leave.

But yeah, I am in the Navy now. I have been sworn into DEP until I ship out.
