any of you have experience wit this drug? was given to me for insomnia.

yes. I take 200mg every night for sleep. Works fantastic for me. I get a very good nights sleep. I don't wake up groggy and am not tired all day. I tried other medications, ambien, amitriptyline, nortriptyline and a few others. None of them worked as well and I had bad side effects from them. I haven't noticed any side effects with seroquel. It is expensive but my insurance covers most of it.

If you'd like to ask me any questions or talk about it send me a pm. would be glad to chat.

Steven.

Trazadone would likely be better.

Seroquel caused me to seroconvert to full-blown diabetic. If you have blood sugar problems, get the hell off it.

It also made me so goddamned drowsy you could have run a herd of stampeding wildebeest through my bedroom and I'd have never heard it.

I agree with the trazadone recommendation above.

using Seroquel for sleep is an unlicensed use of the drug in the U.S. Its only licensed for the use of treating Schizophrenia and Bi-polar Disorder. Its got some pretty serious side effects. The colleagues I've seen using it unethically prescribe it for insomnia due to the major drowsy effect it has. There are way better drugs out there designed for sleep that are safer and actually meant to be used to treat sleep disorders.

I agree with the other posts. Trazadone is probably the safest drug to take for sleeping problems.

I've been taking it for about 3 years now everyday and it works great.

There's no problem with using Seroquel for sleep, just like there's no problem with using certain anti-seizure meds as mood stabilizers.

Just about every medication out there is being used for conditions other than it's intended purpose. Hell Rogaine started as a blood pressure medication and now it's only used to grow hair. Everyone reacts differently to medications. Ambien made me flip out. My ex caught me digging around in the closet in the middle of the night. Amitriptyline made me blow up like a balloon. Seroquel works for me. I get a full 8 hours of sleep and don't have any other problems. It may not be for everyone. As with any med. talk with your doctor and pharmacist.

it does seem though that seroquel is a more dangerous option with fairly major side=effects for most. people have died. there is a big lawsuit against it as well. so i do like the suggestion some have made. but my doc has gone on vacation now..is there anyone else to make me this prescription? (in canada, ontario)

Relax. The dose required for use with insomnia is low. Serious side effects are rare and need to be monitored when people use enough to treat psychosis, 600-800 mg daily.

A good friend of mine was prescribed Seroquel for what he described to the doctor as "anxiety from quitting dope (heroin). He's certainly out of detox from the junk, this is more long term for being on H for so long. I've never heard of Seroquel being given for this reason. He's now complaning of chronic sleepiness. Go figure.

DONT TAKE THAT BAD BOY. Get some Lunesta.

If my experience...ooh...well...my mom took it...before lunesta...and...well...she would still be a tad bit loopy the next day.
Lunesta and Ambien can hasten the onset of Alzheimers in predisposed patients. It is also highly addictive.

Trazadone's the way to go. Or warm milk.

Some of you have no idea what you are talking about. The side-effects for seroquel are crazy.

Up to 25% of people in trials have their cholesterol go up to high high numbers. Also another couple really really dangerous things are at similar numbers. (life changing) This is not a 1% chance. It is noted as 15%-25%. That is alarming.

And then there is a whole load of them inbetween 5 and 10%.

compare this to most drugs that usually have the most serious below 1%, some of the more common and less serious between 2 and 5%.

So went to a walk-in and brought my scrip..he gave me trazadone and said he'd never give seroquel for just sleep. asked my gp's name.

In my practice, as a pharmacist, I would never recommend quetiapine for insomnia. There are too many safer alternatives. No prescriber at a walk-in clinic would ever give that to a patient. And personally, although there should not be a social stigma attached to certain medications, I would not want to be put on Seroquel because people, including healthcare providers (if its in your chart or medication profile) with think you have a history of psych issues.
