  • Hi Guest - Did you know?

seroquel

I was initially prescribed seroquel to "help me sleep," but I have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder as well.

My clinic doctor suggested I work up, over a period of a week or so, to 200 mg, but I stopped at 150 mg and then scaled back to 50 mg nightly over a period of several weeks.

I have been taking seroquel for 2 years now, 50 mg nightly.

It took months to tolerate the drowsy effects - even now, though I'll be entirely sleepy, I'll feel a tension and restlessness in my legs from the seroquel that drives me nuts.

in the 6 months to a year after beginning seroquel, I gained about 40 pounds, but have been maintaining my current weight for about a year. I was originally thin as a rail (you could count my ribs) so I've actually enjoyed the extra weight; most of it's in the right places, and the weight gain could have come from my physically demanding job. However, a friend of mine suffers from schizophrenia and takes 800 mg a day - it caused him to balloon into a roly-poly.

as far as the psychoactive effects, which are subtle at my dosage and took a while to manifest - those are best illustrated by my relationship with my former manager. He's the sort that likes to piss people off for fun, and I was a fairly easy target. I used to get so furious with him, and fly into these crazy rages, spilling lima beans all over myself (don't ask) until one day our discussion began to get heated, and I was able to step back (in my head) and say to myself, "Y'know what? You don't have to do this anymore." I didn't stop prodding him though, and HE totally lost his cool. The expression on his face when he realised he'd been had was worth it.

I keep thinking of trying to quit taking seroquel since some aspects of my life have stabilized, but I worry about what the withdrawal might be like, and I worry about what effect my unmodified affect will have on my social life.

There's no problem with using Seroquel for sleep, just like there's no problem with using certain anti-seizure meds as mood stabilizers.

and what's your basis for this? I have 12 years of schooling and a bit over 200,000 debt for my DEA number allowing me to prescribe drugs for their intended purpose. not because they have a side effect that may or may not work or be safe

i use 25 mg sandoz -quetiapine ( seroquel) on needed basis only....
so far so good ( already 2 years) prescribe by my doctor for helping me sleep.

i use carbamazepine :( (250mg) and i'm waiting for a scan to see if i can stop this one....

Drugs will affect each of us differently. that is why i stay in close contact with my DOCTOR.

what? lol

btw guys, is trazodone suppose to work right away? i took 25mg and felt almost nothing..a bit more sleepy.

Yeah, trazodone is not working for me. 25mg,25mg,50mg. nothing. it doesnt make me feel drowsy.

any other medication suggestions?(that are on safer end)
