Anyone else find it amusing and a bit disturbing that a "Straight Republican" is hanging out on JUB?

No, not disturbing. I just thought there would be more of them.;)

Anyways, my beliefs are way more conservative than liberal. I am not registered with any party, so I guess that makes me independent. Oh and gay too. Yes, most definently gay.

Hey, what about Gay Libertarian? That's how I see myself more and more. Ok, in my profile, it says I'm bisexual, but I understand myself better now than I did then. I am gay. I am a Libertarian politically. Whew--thanks. I feel so much better now.

I would have voted as "gay Democrat" if the Democratic party still had any resemblance to the Democrats of the 1970's. However, I've been abandoned by the Democrat heirarchy almost as surely as by the Republicans; that's why I'm "still a political orphan." (For those reading this post months from now, that used to be my "title" until I changed it in late spring 2007 - which at this writing is in the plans.)

No option except Independent remained, I'm very much a Bernie Sanders type of Independent - or the Paul Wellstone types which USED TO come out of the Democratic Party.

I'm not going to support a party that is actively working against my interests and not voting at all doesn't advance those interests either, so political ideology takes a backseat.

Which is exactly why we make so damn little progress. The Democrats will do exactly as much as need be (within certain limits) to gain your vote. If you give them your vote, they'll do nothing to earn it. The black community suffers from the same problem.

I will let Andreus figure out how I voted on the poll ! :D

Gay independent.Am not fond of the leftward tracking pof the Democrats or the right wing ass kissing of the Republicans...there is no centrist -oriented party ,and though I am a registered Democrat from back when I first started voting in 1982,I feel no connection to the activist bases of either party and will vote depending on the candidate.Though if there were a viable option that could move or supplant the current two-party monopoly of power,I would register in a heartbeat. The forty percent of Americans that identify as centrists should have their voice clearly heard and represented in Washington.

My argument is that nothing will change for the good until people begin to realize that the differences between Republicans and Democrats are entirely artificial. The powers behind them have maneuvered the various voting blocks -Life/Choice/Christian/Gay/Black/etc. to one side or the other as they see fit to further their financial and power goals. If you want proof, just look back over the last 150 years to see how the various voting blocks have changed sides. it's all negotiation and positioning.

i think that sums it up pretty well...don't hold your breath waiting.

I chose gay democrat, although I prefer to identify myself as a liberal rather than a democrat. I think the values are more important than the politics.

As there was no option for the Vulcan High Command... I ticked off Gay Democrat.

Live long and prosper Gay Democrat!

Long life and prosperity to you!

Gay Democrat for me!!

I did vote republican ONCE a long time ago..

I voted for Bush in 88 when he was running against Dukakis..

Since then I have made this solemn vow "As God is my witness...I will never vote republican again!"...

LOL..

Now that is a worthwhile vow!

I used to be a Republican, believe it or not. I switched affiliations several years ago. I'd been increasingly uncomfortable with the Republican party, its shift to the right, and its pandering to the Religious Right. There were fewer and fewer liberal and moderate Republicans, with whom I identify the most strongly. The last straw was the invasion of Iraq.

I'm now a Democrat, and financially support the DNC. First time I've sent money to a political party, and I identify with centrist Democrats more strongly than moderate Republicans. What's funny is how far left I score on various political compasses/surveys/etc -- how did I ever get to be a Republican?

The country's shift to the right is alarming. Fortunately, I see signs a shift back to the left may be beginning. We'll see.

I chose gay democrat, but I see some of my political and personal views are much more left leaning than most democratic views...so I suppose I have a few socialist views as well !oops!.

Gay Liberal

I would never support the Conservatives, their caucus is filled with people who literally hate gay people and wish to severely restrict our rights and freedoms. So many of them are pigs and very close minded evil people. If the Progressive Conservative party was still around, I may give them a chance each election.

The NDP dont make sense 1/3 of the time.

The Greens have an unrealistic view of Canada's economy and military etc.

But the Liberals are led by a man who wants to work on the environment while maintaining the ideals that Canadians have always been proud of.

thanks for all the answers so far guys!!

keep them coming

whats interesting is that there are so many variations on personal ideologies yet so few outlets for americans to express them

i think the europeans and the canadians are better served by not having such a rigid two party system

just remember

this is just an easy way to generally figure out peoples ideologies that dont have to do with sex in comparison to their sexual prefferences

its not really about the political parties so much as its about the way we believe

thanks again guys!

I think Vulcans and Romulans are evolutionary cousins through the spectrum of space migration. In other words, Vulcans are Democrats and Romulans Right wing radical Republicans.

I'm a Betazoid Independent myself!

Actually, I was given the impression that in late DS9 that the Romulans were more Soviet-style communist. Community was enhanced about individualism and that view was imposed by 'big government' organizations including the military and Tal'Shiar, which themselves constantly competed with each other the way the KGB and military did in the former USSR. The Romulan government, while outwardly representative in form, was controlled by a small group within, the Continuing Council (i.e. Politburo), rather than a single individual, which is where it lies under most radical right-wing systems. It took a military coup, in ST Nemesis, to centralize control under one individual and even then he couldn't hold the reigns for long, just as the military coup in the final days of the USSR ultimately failed.

I'd also argue that the Vulcans are inherently (small-c) conservative. Their rituals of marriage go back, unchanged, for thousands of years, they are quite intolerant of dissent or change. I didn't see a whole lot of ST:Enterprise, but what I did see reinforced that view considerably.

Now am I a Star Trek Geek or what? ..|

So I'm Vulcan or Romulan? :grrr:
I don't know,...
Do you identify with being an aggressive territorial being willing to make any sacrifice for the greater good of your people as defined by your leaders?
or
Are you a dispassionate, morally-superior being devoted to logic unwilling to change your own particular paradigms...

I suppose you could be a Vulcan-Romulan hybrid if you want...Of course you could be a Klingon, a Cardassian, a Deltan (they have great sex lives! :D ) or many others. I just would suggest you avoid being a Pakled (they're really 'not smart') or a Tellarite (small, offensive and look like pigs). As long as you don't choose Tellarite, (*8*)

I too should return to topic I suppose... Peace and long life everyone! :)
