I ran across this interesting article of people's first visit to a gay bar, great read:

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/06/23/f...l-maddow-alexander-wang-andy-cohen-share.html

My first time was when I was 17. I went to downtown Orlando with my best friend because we'd heard there were gay people there. We stumbled upon a parking lot with entrances on two streets. Cars made the loop through there, sometimes pulling in beside other cars to chat. About a month later, I was there, and this really cute 23 y/o dark haired guy that had just gotten out of the Navy pulled in next to me. We hit it off. He asked me if I wanted to go to the Palace Club. I said sure. They didn't check my ID, but they sure weren't going to turn away the hot Navy man, lol. I walked in that place, and I was totally blown away! It was New Year's Eve, and there must have been 2,000 people in there, partying and having the time of their lives. I knew I had found my tribe. :D

I see what you did there.

My first time was as a 22 year old. I was really nervous. I don't remember which bar but it was on Yonge Street and had lots of drag performers....although this was only 5 or 6 pm.

A guy from Boston immediately bought me a drink...we went back to my place and fucked for the next 36 hours until he had to get ready to catch his plane back.

I have to say though that I probably only have been in a gay bar less than 100 times since then. I'm sad though that so many of them are being lost across Canada, the US and across the pond.

It was 1974 at the Ramrod in New York's meat district.

It was scary as hell as there was a killer on the loose, but we just had to party.

In reality it was when i was 16 at a rather naff club called CC Blooms, good night though and i managed to pull.

I can't remember.....

It might have been Oil Can Harrys or Buzzbys...maybe even the Cabaret/The City.....

I was clueless about sex at the time though so no sex for me....

I remember my first day working alone behind the bar when I was 21...I locked myself in the beer storeroom and I was shaking and had my heart pounding out of my chest because the only guy who was there at opening took his pants off and was waving his dick at me...scared the crap out of me.
I had to be coaxed out..by him....

I really don't remember exactly where or when was the first. All I can say with any certainty is that it was (a) in Leeds and (b) I was pissed at the time.

My boyfriend took me and it was in Philadelphia, can't remember the name, though. If was on a side street, it was actually pretty nice and quiet. I was in my early 20's. I am not much of a bar person in general.

I remember I heard this song......sounded alot different real loud...

Fairly quiet bar, I think it was in Nichols, NY, but not positive. Out almost in the sticks, seemed to me, but that might be because it took at least an hour to get anywhere where I used to live. Drinks were a third off that night or something? I know they were a good price and nicely made as well. Mind you, this was a decade ago, and bars were never really my thing.

Talk of the Town in White Plains NY. I was a wreck going in, but gay as hell coming out. I wound up being a regular there and still run in to guys I knew from the bar. It's long gone, but the memories remain. We'd dance all night long waiting for it's raining men to come on....

My early bar days were straight bars and went to my first gay bar in the early 1980's. Finally made up my mind to go on a Saturday night to Southern Nights which is still around today.

A friend of mine in Toronto (he worked in a gay bookstore) took me to 4 or 5 bars one weekend back in the 70s. One was a lounge, one had a huge poster of Andy Gibb in his white pants, and another had guys in jeans and cowboy hats.

I don't remember much else.

Did you ever go on "Wild Wednesdays" with 25 cent drinks? It was always packed. :gogirl:

In ’96 my great uncle took me to Phoenix, AZ. I was fourteen at the time, but it was not a problem. I don’t remember the name of the place (I wish I did), but since I didn’t try to order any alcohol they didn’t have a problem with me being there. We were there during the day so it was basically a restaurant at the time. Besides the most queer people I had ever been around in one place the only thing to show it was a “gay place” was they had TVs with nearly nude men dancing to music.

I would love to find out if it is still around.

I have only been in a few bars in my life, however I have been in restaurants that were gay hang outs in Ferndale Mi.
They sold alcohol, no sordid tales, sorry.

Pub Eden, in León, the only gay business in my hometown. Absolutely lame. My best friend forced me to go. There were another client, a bartender, my friend and myself all mixed with horrendous Spanish pop and overpriced drinks. We had a beer and leave.

First gay bar I visited was in Virginia Beach. Backed elbow to elbow with cute seamen from the navy base. It was a fun night.
