I've had this one for weeks and weeks. First the original version refurbished in stereo including the seldom heard third verse.

Lip-synced by Steve Zodiac himself.

I don't know what's going on here but this couple are fantabulosa.

For those who can't get enough, somebody with time on his hands has kindly put together a playlist of 51 versions. Highlights include one in French and a virtuoso performance on the stylophone.

AP Films in association with ATV must have been on top of the world as the sound track for Fireball XL5 crossed over to popular radio airplay. The theme to Fireball XL5 was in constant rotation on several local radio stations in my hometown. Older teens and adults who were not familiar with the TV show were bombarding little kids, like me, for information about the show and its characters.

This result was unprecedented for me, suddenly a TV show my friends and I watched every week was now on everyone's radar. Every new show introduced by the Anderson's became a big deal. Just to be able to buy the music from shows you like made quite an impression on me as a 6 year old.

Gerry Anderson's choice of Barry Gray for musical director must have been the best one of his career. At the time of Fireball. most people were seeing the show on small black and white screens. The music helped to make that small image seem to fill the room. Nobody else would put that much effort into writing complex arrangements for a mere kids show. His best work, I would say, was for Stingray, those scores were more sophisticated than anything else on tv. Compare and contrast that with the cheap plink plonk music, computer generated, for modern childrens cartoons.
