Of course...

There are no reasons to suggest that people would be worse parents because they are gay...

Lifestyle choices, on the other hand...

In my opinion...

Any answer, other than "yes" would be a bit homophobic...

It all ready does here in Montreal. I belong to a group where gay couples are fostering kids and eventually adopting them.

ALL children deserve a chance for a family inspite of what the "family" unit consists of.
think of how those kids that britney squirted out are going to turn out in life simply because they dont have REAL parents?

Some gay couples would make great parents. Some wouldn't. Just like straight couples. Just because you can breed doesn't automatically make you a worthy parent any more than being incapable of reproduction should disqualify you from the opportunity to love and nurture a child.

I say no. Not for any moral issue, but because I don't know how fair it is to subject a kid to having to live with the potential scrutiny that could come with having 2 mothers or 2 fathers. If kids today are anything like they were when I was in young, classmates & neighborhood kids would use this information to be downright ruthless.

Then perhaps adoption should be denied to racially mixed couples? Or how about a couple where one partner is much older than the older? How about denying adoption to couples of differing religions? Parents (or potential parents) bring all kinds of issues into the lives of their children, we are not perfect and we do not live in a perfect world. We don't just cast our children out into the world to fight battles alone. We teach them how to deal with bigots, haters and ignorant human beings, who will always be a part of all our lives. It has less to do with sexuality than it does with the stupidity and meanness of certain people.

Ummm...it is legal and it happens all of the time. Which is great b/c every kid deserves to have a home.

Should a single gay man be able to adopt a child? It isn't expressly illegal for a gay male to obtain a child w/o a partner. However, any single male would have a much more difficult time adopting a kid than a single woman would regardless of sexual orientation. Well, unless the child is a direct relation to the male. Also, income plays a large role in the crts decision (and in the child services decision). Two incomes are better than one!

I think I misrepresented my knowledge on this one. Just to clarify, I don't believe that it's expressly illegal for a single gay male to adopt a child. However, there may be a state statute or some piece of case law that forbids such an act and I've just never come across it. The Superior Crts generally have jurisdiction for adoption cases and I'm not a Superior Crt clerk. #-o

Also, although it is legal for a gay couple to adopt a child some discrimination may take place. A judge can always use the argument "in the best interest of the child" to stop a gay couple from obtaining a kid. Several factors are weighed when deciding whether to allow any couple to adopt a child. Of course, all of these factors can be manipulated. I've seen several gay/lesbian couples successfully make it through the system and I've never witnessed any discrimination. I'm sure it happens though.

Absolutely it should be legal. Sexual orientation has nothing to do with the ability to be a good, loving parent. I find your opposite sex option in the poll to be downright offensive. With that you are playing into the old stereo type that gays can't be trusted with same sex children. Even worse is that one person actually voted for it. Give me a break.

Adoption should be legal for gay/lesbian couples and singles. Same as the straight folk.

In NY, it isn't necessarily legal for gays to adopt as a couple. When my partner and I adopted our daughter the process was two step. She was adopted from the state of NY by my partner, a new birth cert was issued w/him listed as her father. I then adopted from him and another cert was issued listing us as parent 1 and parent 2.
We were actually surprised about the parent label, we had visions of mother being chicken-scratched off or some nonsense. . .

It wasn't a big deal, but it was twice the hassle and twice the cost! But absolutely worth everything we went through.

As far as the two daddies thing goes, she's totally fine The kids in her class had questions about her mom, we answered them honestly and they were cool. The other parents don't seem to care at all. . .I'm on the PTA and just finished the season as coach of my little one's soccer team.

It's Legal in Canada as others have said, non issue here. American's will follow suit as soon as they can get rid of Bush.
