  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Should I buy this?

Are you planning on wearing it to a picnic with some Republican folk, perhaps?
They might throw lemonade at you.

Let's be nice, guys.
Trydegrau doesn't have pungently offensive national leaders in Quebec or Canada. Plus, when you're Canadian, you're, you know.........polite.

Maybe you should look at people who smoke pot since they waste their money on smoke instead of materialistic things.
Promoting pot smoking is just as bad on the front page as materialistic threads.
So go create a thread that actually has some substance, and stop trying to rile the coop.We all know what happens when that happens:eek:
The good thing is YOU DON'T HAVE TO READ THINGS HERE THAT MAKE YOU UPSET>SKIP OVER IT!

Where/who gave you the idea that I presently smoke pot?

(and frankly, it's burning money weather you smoke it or buy cheap junk either way)

Well I've counted quite a few concerning cars and other junk.

Sooooo... what, exactly, is wrong with this?

People can spend their money on whatever the fuck they want really.

Yes, they can.

I just think it's sad that buying shit has become a highlight for so many people.

Why not? The world is full of hatred and depressing shit right now. Why not do something to make it a little better? And if that means buying something that makes your life a little more fun and exciting, what's wrong with that?

I think it's sad that more important things get bumped off the page for these threads

Just because people like to buy things for themselves, it doesn't mean nothing else is important. Perhaps some of these people have real and important issues they deal with every day. Perhaps some of those issues are painful. Perhaps buying something they're going to enjoy is a way of lessening that pain.

and I think it's particularly sad that people can't make up their own minds without consulting the internet for a globally concerted opinion.

The internet is the "information superhighway", is it not? What's wrong with gathering the opinions of others? Looking for opinions from those who have possibly had experience with the object they're thinking of buying and wanting to know if it's worth it or not?

You're looking far too into this and taking it way too seriously.

I have one question for you. What do you do with your expendable income? And don't tell me you earn "just enough".

The thought that happiness can be bought. That bothers me.

I'll give you that.

I have one question for you. What do you do with your expendable income? And don't tell me you earn "just enough".

I pay my rent, I buy food, i.e., living independently. If I have any to spare I either save it, replace old clothes, or I take a class. Hardly frivolous spending.

And I know what you're gonna say, If i waste money you'll say I'm just as bad as the rest, and If i don't have any to waste, you'll say I'm just angry/envious/whatever... Honestly, some years I have too much, and others, just enough. I tend to save for the low points in times of surpluses so I can continue to be independent.

And I'm sorry if I'm taking this too seriously.

But it does frustrate me, for example, that I should post a thread about animal cruelty, and barely half a dozen people take notice. Yet, I put in a two line bit about materialism, and now I get two dozen MC junkies on my ass defending store-bought lifestyles. If were not busy buying shit, were busy getting offended over chocolate bar commercials...Perhaps my priorities are in the wrong place...

I used to smoke pot but I realized what a waste of time, money and braincells it was. You might have checked the date on it. Why do you have to dig to find dirt anyways? Can't find anything in this thread?

BTW, I politely suggested that this argument be taken elsewhere, even apologized for the hijack. RL said he didn't mind, so...what does it have to do with anything?

You don't really know me like you assume you do! I have nothing critical of this answer.

You see, you answered my question quite civily and I respect that. What irritated me in some of your earlier posts were judgemental and negative illustrations of your viewpoints towards others that find satisfaction in aquiring "material" possesions. This is an extremely diverse community here and no one should be criticized for what gives them enjoyment as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else. Consumerism as you previously stated sustains so much of the world's population and if it were to suddenly disappear, so many people would be affected and revert to a standard that would be unimaginable to most of today's society.

Consumerism is also destroying our environment. We keep it up at this rate and future generations won't know the Earth as we know it. All of that so that we can live comfortably. And I was irritated and insulting in earlier posts because my statements are frequently misread/misinterpreted or stretched to the point that I'm not arguing just my viewpoints anymore, but also other people's perceptions and assumptions of it.

If I seem calmer now it's only because I don't have half a dozen people baiting me into an argument.

Okay, Mr. Lunacy, you've heard the pros and cons--now did you decide to buy the shirt or not?
