OK Joe here's the deal. You do have your own flag. It's called The Flag of England, it's white with a blue horizontal and vertical cross AKA St. George's Cross. This will amaze Americans on this board who can't get their heads around the Union Jack not being Englands flag. So, I grant you Jerusalem as your anthem. You will, however have to give up soccer or as you insist upon calling it *footie*.

If we built Jerusalem here, in England, this land would soon cease to pleasant. Jerusalem has been, is, and will remain for aeons to come the most divided and divisive place on earth.

The three major religions who claim Jerusalem as their holy place - Jews, Muslims and Christians - argue vehemently with each other. And each of these religious groupings have internal factions which argue amongst themselves: Liberal v Orthodox Jews, Roman Catholics v Orthodox Catholics, Sunni v Shi'ite Muslims.

England might need a new national anthem, but "Jerusalem" ain't it.

Being a fourth generation Australian (although my forebears come from England's green and pleasant land), I really have no right to vote - but I did anyway, for Jerusalem.

I wish Australia's national anthem was half as moving! Brings a tear to the eye every time I hear it...
