You know "Saucy Sailor"?! I learned it by listening to Steeleye Span, who are either English Electric Folk or Alt-Rock, depending on how you came to them.

I've heard some country songs I like, but in general it's not my thing. I share your view of singing. These days there are some hip-hop artists who do sing, but that genre just isn't my cup of tea.

I listen to a lot of Steve Reich too.

Nope, I don't know that song. So I googled/youtubed it. I like it. Reminds me some of music from Joculatores Upsalienses. You know, I bought and played the PC game Europa Universalis II just because they used Joculatores as their primary soundtrack. Until I realized they were just MP3s in a folder of the game, so I copied them over to my mp3 player to listen to anywhere. But, I have never tried to learn to play any of that. I'm an amateur so I have my limits I guess, but I do love a good fingerpicking song. :)

Yeah, I don't despise country music. It's hard to avoid it in Bama. And there's some I like, especially a bit older country. But most are all the same now, and they tend to be Country Pop instead of just Country. Same goes for the R&B genre. There are some artists that actually sing, and they have some good songs, but most of the time its all about the bass and rythym it seems.
 
There are a couple of Dolly Parton songs I like. There's a quiet one with the refrain "...if she did, she never did say so to Daddy" that I find very moving. And "Nine to Five" is worth singing along to!

What was the "next to last one" you knew, if not "Saucy Sailor"? Not challenging you, just curious which other set of lyrics you've heard (from the ones I quoted I mean).

Btw I sang in the chorus of the Mozart Requiem at Lincoln Center; the Palestrina I sang in church. A poem of mine was set to music by a professional composer as a commission by the New York City Gay Men's Chorus, which got me a solo bow from the stage (because I also sang it, as part of a group) of Carnegie Hall.

I've heard this before. I once dated this woman who had a thing for Gaelic and folk music, she had a classical guitar. She use to "make" me watch all of these Youtube videos she thought were the best. She wasn't a very good guitar player though, but she could sing.
 
Handy work, sports and stuff like that.


Guys that are usually drawn to arts, singing, dancing and things like that are usually a big turn off.

Personally, I'd want to blast my brains against a wall if I had to work as a bureaucrat. I don't mind structure, but that kind of structure rapes my soul. It's just too much.

And I'm fairly sure most with an artistic inclination would tend to agree. There's doing what you need to to make a living, and then there's subjecting yourself to a little taste of personal hell. I used bureaucracy as an example because I'd tend to see it as falling more into the latter category. Right brain thinking doesn't mesh very well with (hyper-)structured rigmarole.

I don't think I'm juding someone. I know there are always exceptions to the rule but for the most part I was just being honest. :-)

For one, I think some male singers are attractive....

funny you mention that because most guys around my campus that long board are so sexy. today i stared at two guys that had their long boards with them :P

Yeah word. It's fine to have 'types', everyone is attracted to slightly different things; but effeminacy isn't a bad word... at least, not in my vocabulary.

I usually tend to think it reveals either internalized homophobia, or a form of 'misogyny', more than anything.
