So slightly opposite of the 'wearing makeup' thread. Do you enjoy a skin care regiment, shaving or pampering yourself?

For me, I enjoy the art of classic wetshaving. Not using a cut-throat but safety razors. Unfortunately it has ended up as a slight collection too, with the following in my possession.
- Merkur 34c heavy duty

- Gem and Everready single edge safety razors (love em but no blades)

- Gillette twist-to-open

- A few old Gillette 3 piece tech razors (unpictured).

Trying new blades, soaps, aftershaves and brushes has can become an expensive addiction, however I like to keep it simple with the following.

1. A nice facial cleanse, and occasionally a mud mask
2. Good hot shower or bath to soften up the whiskers
3. A nice warm towel compress while waiting for my lather bowl to warm up
4. A good lather using a badger brush (cheaper kind) with a cheaper but efficient soap. I prefer the classic palmolive to be honest, though I have a fair amount of Proraso to finish up.
5. Preference is for the Israeli made Personna stainless blade, though I do frequently use the Turkish Derby stainless blades as well, Personna I can manage to get a nice baby bum smooth shave better though (waiting for more, ordered 50 for $16). Never touch the Japanese Feather blades because I still make a few mistakes now and then, and feathers have a tendency to remove body parts without any force.

6. Finish up with a cool wash and some witch hazel. Followed by a moisturizer balm. Loving the L'Oreal for men hydra sensitive to be honest. A bit of scented body talc is always good too.

Awesome!!! Shaving is still one of the last vestiges of masculinity. It is so sensual yet still so romantic. I always wet shave in the shower.

Chrisw87, you have a beautiful collection there.

Here's mine. The razor is a vintage one from the early 70's, it belonged to my mother (no, she never used it for that area).

My regimen is more simple: I wash my face with hot/warm water, followed by a pre-shave oil, lathering of the cream, shaving, lathering again, shaving one more time, followed by a moisturizing balm.

I wet shave in the shower, but have always loved getting a professional shave with a straight razor, hot towel, massage and a drink!

Very nice.

I have never experienced a professional shave, unfortunately they are all going to shavettes now over straight blades too :( but there are still a few Turk and Italian guys that will go the old fashion route over a coffee if no customers are around to see it. The OHS brigade are all over that for the obvious reasons of blood transfer.

I am enjoying a shave shortly actually.

I haven't used that twist to open razor yet so I thought it would be the best time to try it out, nice strong black coffee to the side and have a bit of smooth jazz playing down stairs. Not my usual music, but it fits well when I have my personal men-zen time

Nice. I don't have any of my own photos, but I use this razor:

with this brush:

I also use "Art of Shaving" cream (unscented). It's a little pricey, but lasts a long time.

Well the twist-to-open Gillette (circa 60s-70s) shaves good. Quite gentle, but that is what I am after. Since losing a lot of weight, I have to re-learn how to shave my neck. 3 passes on the face and I'm close to baby bum smooth, neck is sketchy and acceptable, but I don't want to risk tearing off my entire dermis.

Best thing, only 1 nick (on my neck) so, good shave. Might have found a new daily razor. Went for a mix of both Faulding shave cream and Proraso. Might stick with the Faulding on its own though, Proraso's mixture tends to irritate my skin a bit (too much eucalyptus/menthol).

Nope, I'm a disposables kind of guy when I remember to shave. Shaving cream/gel in a can, too.

The rest of the skin is a little more complex - it's highly sensitive (even more than some JUBbers, if that were possible ;)) so I use a scentless, soapless cleansing bar on it. Following that, two days out of three day I use some decent moisturiser - currently L'Oreal Hydra-energetic; also went through several varied brands before I found one which didn't irritate the bejesus out of my skin like Clarins, a Clinique, and a Hugo Boss Skin, none of which really aided my cause - and the third day I use some medicated stuff to keep the irritation and related dryness at bay.

And of course, a daily (or twice-daily if I'm out and about again later) splash of a decent eau de toilette from my extensive collection to finish off.

I love the hydra energetic face cream. Works miracles when you look a bit haggard. Try the hydra-sensitive if you find it, good stuff as well but not as peppy as the energetic stuff.

Doh - meant Hydra-sensitive moisturiser.

I have the hydra-energetic face-wash for once-weekly exfoliation.

Wow. That's a lot of work for shaving your pube

I use a Gillette Sensor Excel razor, Proraso Shaving soap with a brush, and Proraso Pre & After Shave Cream (which I'm sometimes too lazy to put on before). I usually wet my face thoroughly with a hot wet washer first. This gives me the best shave I've ever had, and I've used safety razors, electric razors, and Sensor Excel and Mach 3 with canned shaving gel.

My boyfriend has an older razor (it looks kind of like some of the OP's pics... but I have no idea what kind it actually is) but he doesn't use it much. instead we tend to go disposables. For shaving cream we just by whatever shaving cream (in a can). right now I think we're still finishing off our can of Shick Hydro, or something like that. But here's how I like to shave:

1. electric trimmer to make all the hair shorter (we have a big con-air one which is ACTUALLy designed for cutting hair.. but meh,)
2. Wet my face with warm water, and spread the shaving cream.
3. Shave everywhere I want the hair to be gone (with the grain)
4. Repeat step 3, this time against the grain.
5. Hot washcloth, or corner of a towel to wipe off excess shaving cream.
6. Pair of scissors to trim any hairs that are extra long, or that I missed
7. Have a hot shower to rinse of any hair still sticking to my body lol!

I can't say I particularly enjoy shaving. I don't really mind it TOO much, and once I'm actually doing it I enjoy it... but I put it off cuz I never want to do it lol!

Love this thread, I'm in need of advices, for products and methods for shaving and skin care particularly. Keep posting !
