I started when I was 12, I'm 46 now and I am in PERFECT HEALTH.



Unless I am forced to be near a Perfume User.

I happen to be extremely allergic to Perfumes and Colognes.

Those vile, loathsome, horrific stenches that far too many of you constantly spray, splash and slather all over your bodies (instead of simply bathing on a regular basis like civilized people) give me brutal Migraine Headaches.

In this country, it is still legal for "Perfume Pushers" to ply their repulsive wares in our shopping malls.

Packs of predatory men and women, looking like overly made up skunks, earn a living by assaulting the nostrils of innocent passers-by, spraying their stenches on any unlucky shopper foolish enough to cross their path.

I'd like to see a "No Perfumes Allowed" law in shopping malls, supermarkets, bars and restaurants!

Well i don't smoke and i don't particularly want to smell it. BUT i also don't want to smell the smog from the thousands of SUVs, or pay to support welfare from teenage parents with 2-3 kids, or listen to the obnoxiously loud bass playing in the apt or car next to me, nor do i want to step in someone else's dog's shit pile next to MY mail box, oh yes the list can go on and on. I think there should be smoking places and nonsmoking places and let it go at that. That is to say places where a smoker can smoke in piece and quiet without being spit at and places where nonsmokers don't have to smell smoke. Once again this just shows how little people value OTHER people. it's a common thread in life that i see reflected here over and over.

Hey Garfield...it seems to me that smokers raising their voices amongst each other would be like preaching to the choir.

I hear smokers saying I'll smoke even where I am not allowed even if the fine me for doing so...I wish law enforcement would start enforcing to see how quickly they change their tune.

Hey Mike- places like that do exist but smokers don't seem to respect the rigth of non-smokers...God knows we non-smokers don't like be near them but it does not matter they insist in coming to us. I think it is kind of pathetic to be controlled by Nicotine to the point they are willing to smoke outside in sub-zero temps.

^^EXACTLY! Smoking isn't something to be proud of, and NO, smokers shouldn't have any rights. It's such a terrible thing that they do to themselves and others. I see these people all the time in the hospital and you wouldn't believe the resources that they suck up. Absolutely ridiculous! And then there are the patients that don't even care and actually take the elevator down the the first floor (in their gown and with IV pole attached) to go outside and have a smoke. Ugh!

This topic has been reduced to yet another malicious and vicious attack on smokers.

I have control over when I smoke, where I smoke, and who is with me when I smoke. I respect other people's requests when they ask me not do smoke with them in the room. I respect the laws and do not smoke where I am not allowed to do so.

With that in mind, I have a few questions to ask you non-smokers who feel it's their right to deny me of my right to smoke:

#1 - Do you have a driver's license?

#2 - Do you own your own vehicle?

#3 - Do you drink alcohol?

#4 - If you drink, have you EVER got behind the wheel of your vehicle while under the influence of alcohol?

If you answered 'Yes' to #4, I would like to know what gives you the right to put my life and any number of other lives in danger every time you drive your car when you're drunk?

I have control over who is influenced by my smoking. Everyone else has control of it as well.

NO-ONE has control over your decision to drive while intoxicated!

I smoke responsibly. I don't drink alcohol, and haven't done so in many many years. When I did drink, I always had a friend go with me who could drive me home, or I took a taxi there and back. I drank responsibly and never, ever, drove under the influence of alcohol.

I sincerely doubt that drinkers would appreciate being told when and where they could drive their cars, and I am certain they would not take kindly to being asked, "Excuse me, do you mind not driving your car? I don't drink and your driving bothers me."

There is a lot of talk here about second-hand smoke, but Heaven forbid anyone should mention alcohol-impaired and incompetent drivers!

My dad smokes in the house and I can't stand it. We've asked him countless times to stop and he still does it. My sister and I have to close our doors. I just wish they could abolish cigarettes, cigars, or anything that can be smoked like a cigarette all together.

Yes! Just like fat people! Eating themselves a heartattack, and abusing their kids with their eating habits. NO, fat people shouldn't have any rights. And neither should HIV+ people. I mean, how hard can it be to roll on a condom? All those wasted resources! And what about people that speed and get in accidents!? Might as well let them die beside the road where they chose to crash and burn. Bah, and what about al those steroid users at the gym, getting themselves heart problems. Absolutely ridiculous! And don't even get me started on people OD-ing on drugs, and all that binge drinking. They should be put in mental wards to protect themselves, and society against their stupidity.

No, the above does not reflect my views. It's just my way of asking for a bit more of a level headed response. People do stupid things. Get over it. Yes, I'm a smoker. No, I'm not proud of it. If it were an easy habit to kick, I would already have done so. But I'm a weak charactered ass, just like 90% of the human race. I don't ask for favours. But the zealously judgemental singling out of smokers as displayed in the quote, is out of this world. I'm not against the strict smoking laws. I'm not against the 80% taxes that are on cigarettes. You need to chill out. My post is not "out of this world" as you describe. It's actually quite realistic. I understand that smoking is an addiciton and not easy to quit, but that has nothing to do with my opinion that smoking is stupid and if I want to single out smokers, I will. The point of my post was that so many of the people come to the hospital for help end up basically negating what we do for them by having the nerve to smoke while STILL IN the hospital, or going right back to it once they leave. It's completely bogus. Yes, it's the same with alcoholics and fat diabetics who won't lose weight. I see this s**t all the time, and it's frustrating.

Smokers shouldn't have any rights? I assume you mean to smoke rather than having the right to Habeas Corpus or some such removed. Smokers also pay general taxation and indeed usually pay tax on the cigarettes they purchase (as well as health insurance in the US and elsewhere): this more than meets the cost of any probable treatment. Moreover, provided smokers are considerate and do not foist their habit on others, I cannot see what possible concern it is of anyone else. The same cannot be said for drivers; stand on a street that is congested with traffic for just forty minutes and it is roughly the equivalent to smoking twenty cigarettes. I ensure my smoke is not inhaled by anyone else, except for those who smoke when I do, whereas I have no such luxury when it comes to engine emissions and yet this is seldom reflected upon.

I may not suffer from YOUR smoking habits (directly) due to geography, but I do suffer from the smoking habits of others; be it family, friends, friends of friends, strangers.

It's a 'rebuttal'to nothing in particular. But have fun on your crusade guys, I'm dropping the subject. Remind me to smoke in the general direction of Canada from now on!

I wouldn't call it a crusade, but I will enjoy whatever this is. Feel free to smoke in my general direction; we have great health coverage over here. I might as well start taking advantage of it.

And there should be some kind of regulation that a smokers upon buying a pack of cig's should have to turn in 20 smoke butts per pack, and 200 per carton. or pay addition tax for not doing so.

I know this is old as dirt but I will say this. If you take away smokers rights then you should take away the rights of anyone who wears perfumes and colognes as well because both are just as nasty and toxic to people around them.

Millions of people suffer from migraines every year. One of those triggers is strong odors. As such, it is completely irresponsible and cruel to wear perfumes and colognes around other people who may end up being affected.
