Breaking News Snowmageddon 2017

I guess it's over here...2:15 still windy as can be tho....

It is coming down steady here in Rochester.
I shoveled about 3 inches from the driveway at 7:00 AM
I shoveled another 3 inches from the driveway at 1:15 PM
I had gone out to the bank and to Tops for some groceries.
Nobody at the bank (in and out) and few people at Tops (I did all of my weekly shopping so that I don't have to make a trip to Wegmans, which is a little farther away).
The roads were horrendous, and I only had to drive about a mile.
Home now, warm and safe!
I know it's a lot to ask for, but I'd love another snow day tomorrow! (the roads are THAT bad!)

well, I had to venture out to get about 18 inches of snow off my boxwood plants, they were about to break from the weight. I cleaned both of our cars off. This snow is very heavy so I suggest anyone doing any cleaning be very careful.

^ It's snowing here still, but it's dry and light and blowing. But, believe me, I know what it's like when it's moist and heavy. (Great for making snowballs and snowmen, though.)

^ What was making the roads so bad? Not ploughed or something?

Neil, one thing they love to do here in the states is to pre-salt the roads so that they don't have to go out and plow as often. Unfortunately, with the extreme low temperatures, the salt is ineffective. The snow is coming down steadily, and the plows simply are not keeping up. When I cleaned my driveway this afternoon, by the time I had finished, another coating had begun on my driveway.

On the other hand, I now cannot see much across the street. And I received a robo-call that school is closed for Wednesday, March 15. I'm good with that! :D

^ We don't use salt with snow. If it becomes packed and slippery from traffic, we use sand. Salt and sand is used only for ice. Salt is pretty-much ineffective for preventing snow accumulation.

We had a little blast of it last night while we were out for dinner...and of course they don't bother sanding or salting the roads around here until the accident reports start coming in, so the inch or so of snow made the drive home annoying.

IMG_2733.jpgIMG_2734.jpgWorst storm to hit Quebec in 5 years. All schools closed in Montreal and surrounding area this morning. I went over to a friends house for supper last night and left at midnight I had to walk in the street because the sidewalks were no where to be found. Luckily we have an underground subway that is not affected by weather. I just finished shovelling my stairs and decided to take some pictures. All that you can see of the cars is their mirrors. So glad I am not working now and do not have a car!!!
