  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

So, depression and suicide are NOT hot topics.

2. Absolutely!! If people need REAL help, a GAY PORN websiet is NOT the place to find comfort and solace.

Is this from where the animosity stems?

Firstly, it wasn't even my thread which was moved. It was begun by someone else.

Secondly, the animosity come from the fact that, for years, celebrity death notices were posted and discussed in Hot Topics until people had their say and the threads washed off the bottom of the page. It was only recently that the threads began to be moved, BUT (and this is a big 'but') not ALL celebrity death threads were moved. Some disappeared. Others stayed. There was no consistency. There still isn't.

And I'm not at all worried about people not reading about my opinion. Robin's case was different. We were discussing his achievements and talent, but we were also in a very serious discussion about depression and suicide. Visitors go to the Male Celebrity forum for one thing, and it's not to discuss depression and suicide.

If Robin had simply died naturally or accidentally, we would not be discussing this. It was his means of dying which were far more important to discuss than Justin Bieber's ass.

Meanwhile, Lauren Bacall is still on Page 1 in Hot Topics. No consistency.

Then why do half of the other forums exist at all then? Yes this is a porn site, but not every one that frequents the forum comes here for the porn at all. That should be clear for anyone who has spent any amount of time on this forum. And people generally do come to JUB for help with questions all the time, that is why the Health and Wellbeing section exists, why the Coming out forum exists and why there is a suicide thread stickied to the top of this forum.

1. Okay, as a frequent contributor to the MC Forum, I'll concur the threads are usually very sexual in nature. But if everyone is so concerned about RW and his reasons/depression/suicide, why can't these issues be discussed in his MC thread?

Is this from where the animosity stems? Do people feel it is "beneath them" to view threads regarding male celeb crushes? Why would we be interested in depression and suicide in the MC forums? It is not particularly a place where individuals turn to seek advice on issues of well-being.

You contradict yourself here and that is the exact reason why people had a problem with it being moved to that forum. Let me paste the description of that forum.

"Discuss your favorite male celebrities. Who's hot, who's not, who gets you hot and bothered... you get the idea."

So no, I think that is not a sub forum anyone would go to looking for help.

Again, as of today (8/16/2014) no one has started a thread in H&WB to discuss depression and suicide. For a group who seems so interested in the topic, I find it rather confusing why no one feels it important enough to start one.

This is that very thread bringing up how important the discussion is.

Is it because the H&WB Forums don't generate as much traffic as HT? Are you afraid your opinions won't be seen by as many people?

No, it isn't as trivial as this and...

Meanwhile, Lauren Bacall is still on Page 1 in Hot Topics. No consistency.

Threads being moved here is very random and doesn't happen all the time. There is absolutely no consistency in it being done, if the mods had any real problems with threads "being in the right forum" then they'd be moving threads a lot more. That is clearly not the case.

I'm surprised they haven't moved that in the entertainment section.

To the 'move':

John Irving's 'The World According To Garp' was an excellent/fun read. 'Hollywood' doesn't always convert John Irving's books to movies well, but with 'Garp' they did a pretty good job.

I wasn't real happy to see that Robin Williams would play the main character, T.S. Garp, but he did it well – as did John Lithgow with the role of Roberta Muldoon, the professional football player turned 'woman'. That movie was made/released long ago in 1982.

I've never been a fan of Williams, but he was indeed energetic and 'easy on the eyes'. He often managed to keep his characters 'straight acting' and somewhat 'user friendly', or ambiguous, at the same time, and has been in several mainstream movies that have helped to make being different 'OK' or at least 'no big deal'.

I'm sure a lot gay boys/men crushed on Williams over the years, and maybe even looked up to him as a sort of mentor.

And, I'm sure Robin was flattered by the admiration and love he has received from 'the gays' over the years, and would be just as flattered that his memorial thread is in the 'hot guys' section here on JUB.

I think whoever moved Robin Williams' memorial thread did the right thing.

Robin Williams should be remembered 'completely'.

Maybe because it's a hot topic? A fresh suicide of a major celebrity is a hot topic, not just on a 'porn site' but in normal, every day society. At least wait till his body is cold until you banish him off the front page news, no? There is plenty of room for the next big cock thread, or random hook up thread, or bubble butts. Don't panic. But for some people, his passing was quite upsetting.

I didn't really understand why so many people decided to make so many threads about his death in different sections when we had a good one here. It didn't help that someone made one in the Celebrity section before the mods merged them together. If that hadn't happened, I bet it would have stayed here in HT.

2. Absolutely!! If people need REAL help, a GAY PORN websiet is NOT the place to find comfort and solace.

I was here a very long time before I realized it had porn -- and I'm not alone.

In the case of suicide, why wouldn't a gay guy come here? Why risk an encounter with a religious freak telling him he just needs to repent, or someone who is clueless about being gay? If there's anyplace a gay guy could turn and be confident of not being rejected, this would be the place. And it has been helpful enough to sufficient people that the URL of the forums has been given out by more than a few people trying to help others.

You guys keep saying the same thing over and over again: "If it's not in HT, then we're just NOT going to discuss it!"

Really? I haven't seen that. What people are saying is that a celebrities forum is a stupid place to put a thread about serious issues. The world of celebrities is shallow in the first place; the description of the particular forum here defines it as shallow -- so it's just sensible to assume that anything in the celebrities forum is shallow.

Exactly.

And due to the moving of that thread, I now know that there is at least one mod here that no one ever, ever ought to turn to if feeling suicidal.

Perhaps the mods should arrange a permanent move to the Land of the Banned for him.

So report him and move on from it. This thread shouldn't be about a spammer.

How shallow can you be?

President Obama can be considered a celeb -- should all threads about him go to the Celeb forum?

What if you have a celeb who runs in an election and is about to win when his wife dies and he's stricken with health issues because of grief? It has to go in the Celeb forum because it's about a celebrity, but it has to be in Current Events and Politics because he's in politics, but it has to go in the Health and Well-Being forum....

Requiring every thread that happens to involve a celebrity to go into the Celeb forum is like a real estate agent listing houses by their color: it focuses on a minor attribute and ignores the substance.

This.
