im nervous and happy and anxious and its really really weird. supportive comments and advice please?

That will affect the rest of my advice.

I'm sure it'll be a fun experience. Just don't hold in severe issues with your roommate. If you do, they'll build up and you'll end up hating him! (My life right now.)
 
Believe me, if you are beginning your college career, these are the best four years of your life. Remember that all you have to do for college is be an intellectual and enjoy all the courses you can choose from. As for roommates, they come and they go. Concentrate on the REAL reason you are there: to learn.

But don't forget that learning isn't devoted solely to the classroom. I may have learned more outside of it than inside of it, and it all contributed to making me who I am today. :)

Hints/suggestions.

* If you share a bathroom, and it's not connected straight to your room, buy a shower caddy - one of those plastic things you can cart all your stuff to and from the bathroom in.

Keep all your bathroom stuff in it, and keep it someplace handy in your room.

Also, act casual if you've never shared a bathroom with other people. If you see someone naked, don't act really embarrassed, and (obviously) don't ogle. Just avert your eyes a bit. :)

* If you have a roommate, it's best to lay everything out beforehand. If you love being asleep by 11pm, let him know. If you can't abide the smell of microwave popcorn, let him know. If dubstep, reggae, or opera music makes you ill, let him know.

Find out what HIS issues might be, and do your utmost to abide by them.

Jerk off in bed, either after he's asleep, before he wakes up, or when you know he'll be gone for awhile. Limit the blatancy of the porn viewing until you know he's cool with it.

If you start moving into "friends" category rather than "roommates" category, feel free to come out to him. Make sure you treat it like it's no big deal, and he'll probably do the same.

so day one is over... i saw my roommate for all of 2minutes. he left with apparently his girlfriend somewhere... i don't think my room has heat or it might be broken... I'm freezing and I'm pissed.

im in a suite with 7 guys. 2 rooms with 2 attached to a bathroom with 2 more rooms with 2 on the other side.
 
Never had to deal with heat issues, as I went to school in southern California. A box fan for the window was sort of a necessity there, but that's it.

If you're not sure about the room getting heat, you might check with the RA. I'm assuming your dorm has those?

im in tampa florida. I'm from west palm florida... the room is in the 60s last night... and it got cold...

i just put in a work order
 
I spent my Freshmen year in a dorm. I was a real nerd then. Wish I would had been more sociable then.

The rooms were aligned in a square configuration with the rooms along the perimeter and the common area and elevator in the center. There was one bathroom per side. So I had to walk down the hallway with my towel around my naked body to go take a shower each day. I came back to the room to dress.

Just adapt and enjoy yourself.

See if you can bunk in with one of your suitemates who has heat.

HAHAHAHAHA. i spoke with my RA earlier today. turns out the guy in the room before me left because my roommate is a homophobe and taunted him... hopefully that won't happen to me but i am not about to take shit like that

When I was in college in 60's had open room mate we talled about all issues including sex, I was gay he was bi we got long just fine did some sex only bjs and lots of jo activity.
