They're now going to be occupied by people who actually have emergencies, right?

Like.. if you go to an emergency room you're not going to see hordes of poor families there because the kid has the flu... or a cold... or cut his finger and needs a tetanus shot.

Which means when you have a real emergency, you won't have to wait for hours extra.

That's worth about 80 bucks a year, right?
 
Don't get me started on parents who freak out because little junior has a 99deg temperature, whilst I'm in the chair having a heart-attack being told "I have to wait my turn." tossers.
 
The rule for emergency rooms is - you never want to "walk" into an ER - because that automatically means you're not sick enuff -- you need to be CARRIED IN !!

i walked in - with difficulty breathing - and an elevated heart rate - and still had to wait 45-60 minutes - only thing is - there was only one other person there at 11:00 p.m. - by the time i saw an actual Doctor - my symptoms had subsided !! and he wasn't the least bit empathetic !! But before i left - i collapsed - after they told me i could go - so i stayed another hour - and it cost me $200.00because they coded my visit as "hives" instead of "severe allergic reaction" and the insurance co said hives didn't warrant an ER visit.
 
Years ago when I was living in LA, one of my housemates cut her hand very badly.

We went to a hospital in Glendale and they sent her to a 'Public Hospital' that I don't remember the name of. Place was full of 'hordes of poor families.'

She waited for 6 hours dripping blood the whole time. Never did get seen. We went home and she sewed up the wound herself with a needle and thread. :eek:

Finest Health Care system in the world my ass.
 
I remember a visit to a kaiser ER. Some guy was in a wheel chair bleeding like crazy all over the floor..he had to wait his turn :dead:
 
I wont even get into how I feel about Salem Hospital. Their doctors are a main reason I am disabled. I now travel about twenty minutes to go to an ER.
 
When something happens to me I never have to wait in an emergency room. They immediately transfer me to a private hospital. I refuse to be treated at most public hospitals, and I rather to be treated by my doctors.

I have some of the best doctors in the world, Professors at UCLA, San Fran University, Stanford, etc. They took an interest in my rare medical case as a child, and I'm not giving them up.

I love emergency rooms..., you meet the strangest folks.

I had to go to the emergency room once to get a boil lanced off my leg and this dude came running through the sliding doors crying and holding his crotch which was blood stained and running down his leg. His wife was walking nonchalantly at his side going "this is your fault, you're the dumbass who said [watch! me pierce it!]"

I graciously let him cut infront of me...

Hopefully that the ER in general will see improvement in small cities.
 
Do none of you guys have private healthcare/access to the ER at a private hospital, or is public healthcare the way everything is over there?

Most of the decently employed (read: white and/or middle-class) down here have medical aid which means that you can opt for the ER of a private hospital, theoretically with no problems. Of course, the big state hospitals are far better geared up to deal with huge emergencies. Some of the private hospitals have a GP on duty who'll assess you and call the various specialists on call if they are needed. However, if you were to pitch up bleeding profusely from a massive head trauma, there is no guy right there who can see to you right away; he'd still have to be called in.

It is unbelievably disjointed and confusing at best. And it doesn't work at worst.

If you have a Job and have healthcare insurance, you can have decent insurance that gets you coverage at pretty much anywhere; or, for less money deducted from your paycheck, you can get coverage at 'network' places but woe to you if you go to an 'out of network' location.

Even Hospitals are different, and you sometimes don't know which ones are which. Some are owned by Government, some are owned by Religious Charities, some are owned by other Charities, some are 'community owned' and some are just pure for-profit hospitals and some are 'non-profits'. It is a mess.

Then you have the Veteran's Administration system which is a parallel system for Veterans and their dependents.

Then there are other factors involved too which I am too tired (up WAY too late) to go into.

Bottom line, if you get sick in the US, it is :eek: :eek: :eek:
 
By the way, in Canada in 1995, it was determined that a visit to a family doctor for a minor problem would cost about $54.00.

The same problem seen in an emergency department would cost $157.00.

Now do some of you see the difference?

You have a lot to learn. Even with insurance "poor" people and many new immigrants still call 911 to go to the doctor, go to the emergency room instead of scheduling an appointment. This happens on a regular basis -- talk to a friend that works in HR.

Not much can be done by the insurance company or the company they work for because of federal privacy laws.

Oh yeah . . . privacy laws by Sen. Kennedy -- another democrat mess.

When your insurance premiums go sky high in a couple of years to pay for all this mess and for people that don't really want insurance -- I hope you realize what happened. Too bad it will be too late to change it.
 
Hey Springer. Listen up. Your country's much vaunted medical care ranks way down there. I mean, way down there.

Your insurance premiums are going up anyway. Someone has to pay off the bad gambling debts of the insurance companies and your health care costs have spiralled out of control in your market driven system.

Of course people will still use the emerg department for primary care. that is why y'all need primary care reform as well.

And if you think that you wouldn't eventually pay for the neglect of tens of millions of your citizens, you're stupider than I give you credit for.

And oh my god, those privacy laws.....

Do conservative heads just explode each morning when they get pulled out of the ass?
