Well, there was a surprise in this match -- the goal difference.

As it turns out, the "goal that wasn't but should have been" would not have made up that difference.

The young Germans certainly outplayed the experienced Three Lions. An inglorious exit for England.

In fairness, had the German keeper not been as sharp as he was with that stop in the first half and the one-hander in the second it would have been a different story.

David James didn't stand a chance for 3 of the 4 goals - same mistake by the defence, over and over. Mixed fortunes for the English, very much so. Their defence looked terrible, though - flat footed, far too slow to react (especially goals 3 and 4) and not covering each other.

Is Capello staying on? Does anyone know?

Neuer's big fingers deflected Stevie G's shot just enough to go wide of the goal.

David James didn't stand a chance for those goals, because England's defense was absent. He couldn't stand up to an onslaught from Klose, Schweinsteiger, Podolski, Müller and Özil all alone.

Haven't heard anything about Capello's future yet, though I'm sure we'll hear plenty in the next few days. The English press will be calling for his head to roll.

after all yeah things COULD have been different, but come on england's defense was weak very weak.


but .. all in all. great game that was really fun watching, much fair play on the field - and also among the fans here. the few brits that were outside where i watched got a lot of sympathy even before the match

forget about serbia, forget about ghana. we're back in the game

Yes, England's defense was very weak. That was their downfall.

Didn't see Capello's after-match interview, but I'm not surprised he blamed it all on the referee.

After all, did anyone expect Capello to say, "It's all my fault. I'm not a good manager. I'll give back the $18,000,000 I made from this."
