Soccer World Cup 2010

Boy, now that is a gooooal! To be in Brazil for the world cup.

I hope the US has a team that can compete by then. Maybe we need to naturalize some Brazilians.
Yes!

USA can compete, my Hot White Trash friend. :D

Last year at the 2009 Confederations Cup, USA beat Spain 2 - 0 in the Semi-Final (I still smile when I remember that!), and in the Final were leading Brazil 2 - 0 at half-time.

It will be very interesting to see how things develop with the National Teams around the world in the next 4 years:

Who will be the new young faces?

Who will be a rising star?

Who will be injured?

Who will stay healthy?

Who will crash and burn?

Who will shine?

[strike]Who's got the best butt?[/strike] oops! !oops! Did I type that out loud?

omg, that's why I love this game so much! --%--

FU ekim ..! :grrr:

anyway .. that goal was .. meh, but the reds played better .. one has to say that. I was hoping for penalty shots, we were at least good in blocking their center pathway .. but it wasn't enough.

as I said earlier .. today's wnner probably will be the new champion. but secretly i will be rooting for the dutch team now.
Corny (*8*) Your secret is out! :-$

Just finished watching the repeat of the game a bit ago.

w0w! What a great match! :D

Both teams played an excellent game. Germany's defense was very tight and it was difficult for Spain to unlock them and spread them out. And most of the second half was played in Spain's half of the pitch.

I'm sure it would have been a very different match if das Wunderkind Müller had been playing. It could very well have turned out the other way around.

I was quite surprised that the only goal was from a corner kick set-piece. After all, die Mannschaft is quite tall and Spain (except for the too-sexy-for-color-TV Piqué) are mostly short (especially Xavi).

Germany played their usual game... precise, coordinated, strong, like clock-work.
And Spain started to play the way did to get here... fast, technical, creative.

It was also a very friendly and gentlemanly match. Not much rough play or dirty tackles, probably because everyone was afraid of red cards.

Congratulations to Germany for a game very well played! :=D:

Good luck to Germany and Uruguay in their match!

Congratulations Spain. Game better played.

Here's to the Netherlands!
Best of luck!

You would have thought at least when it came to corner kicks that the taller Germans had an advantage. The sight of little David Villa going against Boateng, who is almost a foot taller, seemed like child's play.

Well, 62 out of 64 have gone, and it's been a whirlwind 27 days so far. Can't believe it's almost all gone.

I must have missed the 2006 World Cup thread on here. I'd just joined and I don't remember it, but I will remember this one!

Last night's game - I can't believe how out-thought the Germans were. They couldn't hold the ball in midfield, and although the defence was a wall they didn't look anything like the quick-thinking, quick-adapting and above all, super-quick 3/men-counterattacking teams which ripped the English and the Argentines to pieces. At my office yesterday morning, a couple of us reckoned that if the Germans hadn't broken through within 20 minutes it would be a 1-0 result to Spain off a set piece by the end.

On the plus side, we will have a new, 1st-time World Cup winner for the first time since 1998 and only the 3rd one since Argentina won in 1978. Both the Spanish and the Dutch have underachieved on the world stage thus far and on Sunday one of them gets to fix all that. Personally, I hope it's the Dutch! :D

If I could get all misty-eyed and sentimental here for a sec (I have to do it now while I have access, since the local internet disaster with the undersea cable means we might be out for another 8 days still), I have really really enjoyed chatting with all of you guys in here. Can someone please cue the violins? :-({|= The regulars whom I've been talking to since I began here, and the other guys who I've seen around but only met properly in this thread, and even the new guy who's only been here a week - it's been a real pleasure, and such a privilege, to participate and to share the ups and downs. The thread might have died on page 1 if you guys hadn't come along and this post is 665 in it - amazing!

In case I'm out till after the show ends, thank you all so much. ..|:gogirl::=D:

Cheers!

I do think it's going to be a great game

I don't know who to root for now!

I first wanted the Dutch to win so in the end I could say that Uruguay was eliminated only by the world champions (it's like saying, yes, we got raped, but the one who fucked us was very hot at least).

But I speak Spanish, I read "El Quijote" and studied heaps of Spanish literature at school, I know lots of Spanish descents here, and my blood is 1/16 or less Spanish (yeah, it's so little that probably a mosquito sucked it away, but anyway it's greater than the 0% Dutch blood)... I might root for Spain and then go celebrate with my 90 y/o foster grannie (my neighbour), originally from Galicia, Spain!!

Viva La Furia Roja!
Y viva Uruguay 3o (3rd)!!!!
And Forlan golden boot winner!!

oh and yeah fun stuff to be around in this thread and had the chance to talk to u guys...
and make new friends

I went away 2 days for naked beach to come back to hear German got defeated? W T F. If only Muller was there.

I'm rooting for Spain.

When Spain was eliminated in 2006 (thanks a lot, Ekim ;)) my football heart was broken. I thought, "well, 4 years until the next chance." The last 4 years have seemed like an eternity. Four years that passed sooooo slo-o-o-o-w-w-l-l-y-y-y-y.

And the past 4 weeks have passed so quickly! omg, where has the time gone?

So now my beloved Furia Roja have a chance to be «los putos campeones del mundo». I'm so excited! \:/

I'm really happy for Netherlands, too! Congratulations on your first World Cup Final. :=D:

Now that they have their first chance to win it all, I thought that if they lose, I'll be broken-hearted again. But no... I'm so proud of my guys, that even if they don't win on Sunday, at least they made it to the Finals without falling apart this time.

And all of you, no matter which team you supported, should be proud of your guys, too, just for getting here. They spent 4 years or more, working hard every day, in the cold and rain and snow and in the sun and heat, through exhaustion, injury, pain, sacrifice, disappointment and joy to be in South Africa. Maybe they didn't do as well as you had hoped, but I know they did their best (well, almost all of them zut!). Those beautiful, athletic young men went out on the world stage and gave their best for Team and Country. ..|

Yeah, I'm proud of my guys. I'm proud of your guys, too. :D

And I want to say a big "Thank You" to South Africa for being a great host of a wonderful World Cup!

I hope its wrong prediction for the Final

Fucking octopus! Did you know that Uruguay's national dish is BBQ? So if I were the octopus I'd better think the answer again... we might have an octopus fest if he doesn't change his mind :P

Anyway, did you realise that Paul always goes to the box on the right? So the caretakers should take all the praise or insults.

BTW, I heard there was a poll asking for the ugliest players in the WC, the result was the following:

1- Rooney (england)
2- Rivery (france)
3- Tevez (argentina)

I agree with the three, but not with the order. How can Rivery or Tevez be any cuter than Wayne Rooney?? If I had the three naked in front of me and I had to decide for one I wouldn't think it twice, I'd go to Rooney. But at the same time I'd feel it unfair to have three football players naked in front of me and none of them are Torrez, CR7 or Casillas *|*

I believe the spaniards have said that if they win, they will buy the octopus to protect it from retaliation
