Soccer World Cup 2010

I'm really happy for Netherlands, too! Congratulations on your first World Cup Final. :=D:

You're wrong, because the Dutch have already played finals in 1974 & 78, being defeated in both occasions by the respective hosts, Germany & Argentina.

At least you know that dutch tend to freak out in the finals, even when they were the clockwork oranges!

It is though the first final for Spain, so we don't know how you behave in these occasions.

So good luck on Sunday, and "espero les vaya de puta madre!"

We still have a few more days with this thread alive, but it's also been a pleasure for me, and if at any time you're planning to visit South America, and especially Uruguay or neighboring Argentina, don't forget to give me a call! Otherwise I'll see you again in 2014!

You're right. I was very wrong. Ha!

That video clip that Corny posted is funny because of the Netherlands/Germany 1974 World Cup. And the odd thing is, I know it's not the first time for Netherlands, so I don't know why I would have written that. Weird.

Thanks!

Thanks you, fed! (*8*)

I hope you don't disappear for 4 years! I've enjoyed posting with you and hope to see you around JUB more often. :)

Oh, and USA is bidding to host either 2018 or 2022. So if the WC is here, you can come and see me!

I'm off to Kansas City for a soccer match... Kansas City Wizards vs Chivas USA. :D

Gotta get over there in time to watch Uruguay vs Germany!

I love Paul the psychic octopus!

I'd be happy for either Spain or the Netherlands to win, to be perfectly honest!

:D

What a turnaround!

Not only will the final tomorrow ensure a new cup nation, but the top three cup finishers are all European. When was the last time that happened?

1934 - Italy - Czechoslovakia - Germany - Austria
1954 - West Germany - Hungary - Austria
1966 - England - West Germany - Portugal - Soviet Union
1974 - West Germany - Netherlands - Poland
1982 - Italy - West Germany - Poland - France
2006 - Italy - France - Germany - Portugal

top three cup finishers are all American

1930 - Uruguay - Argentina - United States

Thankyou for the info Analblast.

Very enlightening.

Memory sure plays tricks!

I enjoyed tonight's game. It was good and fast and above all, engaging.

Felt a bit sorry for Suarez - all that booing; I remember it going on and on for months for Beckham after WC98, so he's going to have to get used to it, I suppose. Poor guy!

Congrats to the Germans; not what their fans wanted, really, but 3rd is better than 4th. They're a good, strong and young team with a solid foundation for a solid future.

And of course - congrats to Uruguay. Perhaps they had the easiest path to the semis, although before the tournament you might not have thought so, but they still had to get the results to get this far and they did so in extremely impressive and very watchable, entertaining style. It's been a memorable tournament for all of us thanks to them, and as a football fan I can't really ask for much more than that.

Most worrying thing for me - the stupid octopus was right again, and that doesn't bode well for the Dutch tomorrow. Hup hup Holland!

I'm just a bid sad that some players seemed to think that "it's just for 3rd place". Not even after a goal they were really celebrating :(
Other than that, I am happy that many of the underused players were allowed to play and despite the one or other moment of scare (fuck that last penalty!) won this match.
I was just a bit confused that Klose didn't play, he still could have become top scorer and break a record ..
I hope Müller becomes the best newcomer - he really deserves it. Not sure if Schweinsteiger will become the best player, but from our team imho he was the best.

What a last match! If only Forlan had scored that last free-kick! I couldn't believe it when it hit the horizontal bar!! I would have celebrated as if it was a goal in the finals.

By the way, I'm really proud of this Uruguay, they did their best, and even though, as -d- says, we had the easiest path to the semis, when we played against Neth and Ger, we played equally and we could've won either matches, but we didn't, and both matches were really entertaining.

I loved today's match even if we lost, it was fun. Just not happy with the way in which Germany scored. Too many mistakes in Uruguay's defense!

About Suarez being booed, believe me that he doesn't care. Probably that booing came from locals that were supporting Ghana before. He knows that he wouldn't be booed in Uruguay, and he even received some praise from the Dutch, the country where he plays, and in which he's admired (national league's top scorer and captain for Ajax).

Well, let's see what happens tomorrow......

Paul the octopus was right for today, so Spain is favorite for tomorrow

Sorry for Uruguay!!!!!!!

Now Bring it on for SPain Vs Netherlands

that it is valid for both sides. we had many mistakes as well - again. that was part of what broke our neck against spain.

oh and that booing - justified if you ask me.

I noticed that there weren't the usual celebrations after goals, but i understand it. Frankly, I give the players credit for putting on a good show when I suspect they would have preferred to go home.

Muller is quite a player - and my type. Wish I were in his hotel nursing that sore arm and sore ass.

Booing is part of every sport and I heard a lot worse. The commentator here acted as if they were throwing knives. He was the one I was booing.

So very much looking forward to the final. It will be interesting whether Holland forces the pace. I personally don't mind a defensive game. For example, today's match was a bit too lose.
